losing weight on the way to Mickey!

New to the boards and read this thread and thought I would post my own story as it fits perfectly with my life right now.

Last year I made the serious life changing decision to attempt to lose 100 pounds. Primarily because of health reasons and so I could set a great example for my twin 5 year old daughters. We also had a DL trip planned for April and I wanted to have lost enough weight that I could easily enjoy the rides with my daughters without feeling so over weight. Walk the park without becoming exhausted too soon. Just be able to enjoy everything without having my weight keep me down.
By the time we took our DL trip I had lost about 45 pounds and was feeling great! My girls loved going and having their Dad with them on most of the rides (something I struggled with in past). It probably was the best time I ever experienced at DL.

Fast forward to today, I am now at 98 total pounds lost and looking extremely forward to our family DW trip this July. I have more energy now than I ever had before. I have gone from barely able to run a 1/4 mile to running 2 miles a day, 5 days a week. Controlling my food intake so I'm not overeating (my biggest problem). I'm looking forward to enjoying everything DW has to offer and knowing I can keep up with my girls while we both get to experience DW for the first time together.

The keys to weightloss I have found that help is understand that you can still enjoy the food you want while dieting. Moderation is key. You dont have to starve yourself or eat food you hate to diet. Portion control is the biggest part of dieting. We've all grown up on bigger is better and I for one trained my stomach to think it needed lots and lots of food during meals before I lost the weight. After a few weeks of normal size portions your stomach begins to shrink and your fuller with less food. There are calorie calculators on the internet or phone apps that can tell you for your height and weight how many calories you need to intake. While at DL I did this and while it was somewhat difficult, I came home gaining only a pound.

Activity is the other key. Get up and walk! I bought a activity tracker and I use it religiously. At DL I found that we walked nearly 20k in steps almost everyday we were in the park. This is twice the recommended steps you get in a single day. Combined with my calorie app on my phone I can see clearly what it takes to maintain or lose weight daily while at the resort.

Now with all that said, I still plan to enjoy myself at DW and partake in eating some not so good food for me. We purchased the DDP and have it fairly planned out. I still will try and watch myself but while still enjoying the food during our 10 day stay. Can't wait to go in July! :)

That's an awesome story tycho04!

I lost 80 in 2004....it does take time to move those portion sizes down.

I havnt weighed this week yet...sometimes I skip weeks so I don't freak out if my losses arent what I want

I'm trying to avoid my kids vday candy....they came from school with a lot of stuff....after they go to bed tonight....anything left is going in the trash.

Hi ya'all ! I'm going to Disney in November and would like to lose 50lbs prior to then. I have motivation problems with working out but once I start im usually good for awhile. Hubby and I are going to start clean eating next week and protein shakes for breakfast since we both can use some weight off. 21 day fix is my go to program but have a hard time with their food restrictions. Can't wait to start this journey! Looking forward to documenting my journey to promote accountability for myself and my health!!

Good Monday morning! Just weighed in and I will take it! I lost the pound and a half I gained last week! Not great but at least I didn't gain more. I always seem to backslide on weekends. :( and here lately I haven't gotten all my water in for the day. So................this week I need to concentrate on doing a few things better. Best wishes to everyone for a great week!

I was not good the first week of February, I didn't get my steps in and had a hard time just getting back in the swing of things.

This past week however I did well; I did not hit my steps Saturday but that was the only day and I did great on my calorie count (I never went over what the app allows me but I did go over 1200 a few days which is what I am trying to stay near everyday.)

I haven't started an exercise routine yet because I am still not sure what I want to do. I saw a back support/tummy slimmer brace the other day at Target and one at Walmart and I was thinking about getting that for when I walk; anybody use one before?

Today I am home bound with my princess because it is snowing. I can not wait for it to get warmer so I can start walking outside and taking princess with me to prepare her for Disney (1st year without a stroller).

Hope everyone is doing well and had a great Valentine's Day yesterday!

I've been trying to lose weight, for Mickey. Even though my trip isn't until late October/early November. But, I was born with a syndrome where my bones deteriorate as I get older (and I've had to have a lot of corrective surgeries to avoid further health risks), and my biggest problem right now is my severe back pain from my scoliosis. Which makes walking difficult for me, and having to use a wheelchair, for long distances. I know it's because I've taken on too much weight on my bones. But, I made a promise to myself that starting this month. I was going to moderate what I eat, and try to exercise more without overdoing it. I have been cutting out any kind of soda. Both diet, and regular, and that is really helping my weight go down.

I did lose about eight pounds last week. So, that's a good start. My goal is to be at my target weight of 120lbs.

As of this morning I am down 16 pounds in 5 weeks. My husband has joined me and he is down 35 pounds. Why is it guys lose weight faster? I am really proud of him. I am up to 5 miles in my training for the 1/2 marathon. I was able to wear a shirt to Disney on Ice last week that I have never worn before. I was so excited. I also need to invest in a belt. A few of my pants are too big around the waist but they still look fine so I don't want to get rid of yet. I hope everyone had a great weekend. It is cold and snowy here but it is supposed to get to almost 60 this weekend. I am looking forward to getting outside for my long run (who am I kidding jog/walk).

What a great thread!

I just started last week doing 21 Day Fix - which I have done before and love. I really enjoy the flexibility in terms of the variety of food you can eat. I fell (HARD) off the wagon over the holidays but my goal is to lose 30 pounds before our November 2016 trip. I have about 30 weeks to go so that's averaging a pound a week. I think it's do-able but would be happy if I can make it to 20 pounds lost by then. I lose weight very quickly so not going to beat myself up if I average a little less.

I have to work out consistently to lose weight and look good so I started waking up at 4:15 every morning (shudder) and doing my 21 Day Fix workout for that day before my 5 am shower and 6 am toddler wakey-wakey time. Then off to work. It feels great to have my workouts done before DD even wakes up and I can just crash in bed after she goes to sleep. It totally blows chunks when the alarm clock goes off at 4:15, however. But it's my new routine and sticking with it. I know it will get me to my goal.

It's great to read everyone's stories, especially those of you who have lost lots of weight. You are a real inspiration. Great job!

Welcome!

Welcome to the newbies!

Had a fabulous workout...in 6 weeks I've worked up to a 16 min pace for 1.8 miles.....I even did some "slogging" which is what I call slow jogging. This is after a 3 year absence from the gym.... and I've never really jogged before this month....ever.

Didnt weigh this week but I've only got one notch left on my belt purchased jan 1st.

Weighed in yesterday. No change this week. Normally I'd be really frustrated BUT there were some NSVs

-We had a 3 day holiday with lots of temptation around. I only went outside the WW plan for a few meals. Managed to snack and keep lunches on plan.
-I've had bronchitis, so exercise went out the window. I managed to hit 10,000 steps one day anyway. Made myself get out of the house on 2 more days. I also didn't eat to feel better, which is HUGE for me.
-After all of that I'm not feeling discouraged. Still motivated.

This week promises to be way better! Only 3 weeks to make some headway before we take a few days off with the Mouse!

bought one of those mini elipticals this week... hope to get on it at least 3 days a week. cut out carbs and dropped 5 pounds this week... 13 down 37 to go :)

Hi all--I hope it isn't too late to join. I am leaving for my next Disney trip in 6 days to celebrate DD's 6th bday! Unfortunately my big plan to lose weight before this trip miserably. (I could blame it on a lot of things, but basically I couldn't get motivated & commit). With that being said, I have made a promise to myself to go & enjoy this trip to the fullest. My plan upon return is to lose it for the Mouse for our return trip in October! (It's A mommy-daughter weekend with my daughter, & my good friend & her daughter).

I am thinking of trying the 21 day fix---all advice welcome! Calorie counting is my stand-by (& I have found previous succcess with this tried & true method). I purchased a new treadmill (after my old one died last month) & this time I feel motivation being strong. (I believe it has a lot to do with forgiving myself for not being able to stick with it & having a new mind set to be happy on this vacation, regardless of my size!)

My stats:
Age: 38
Location: WV
Height: 5'11
SW: 218 (this is before I meet up with Disney dining!)
GW: 165

Welcome!

Im originally from WV, though I've lived in AL for over 15 years. I hope you enjoy this trip to the fullest. Our stats are very similar. I havnt any idea what the 21 day fix is. I've always just journaled my calories I love math....so when I realize what some of my food choices "cost" I start making better choices.

I have done well this week....that is until the weekend hit. Ate out twice. Again, we eat out way too often. The good news is, I have at least done well while eating at home. I discovered the other night just how much of a stress eater I am. Had such a horrible day, then when fixing supper that night, I found myself eating everything in sight! I had made meatloaf, cheesy potatoes and mixed veggies . At the same time I was making chilli for the freezer and a veggie and dip tray for my craft group the next day. I wasn't calm and still stewing about my day and realized I was just dipping into everything take bite after bite. For the first time ever, I just turned everything off and walked away. Went in and walked in the park until I felt better. Then came home and finished without feeling the need to keep eating. I am at least focused and spending more time walking so that is helpful. I may not have lost when I get on the scale tomorrow, but I don't think I will have gained either. Walking tonight and eating veggies for supper, so still hoping for a little loss!
