Trying to confirm that 2042 resorts will not actually get 2042 point or maintenance fees since they expire January 2042? Or would a January use year get 2042 points?

There is no January Use Year. Everyone's last allotment of points will be in 2041 to be used by Jan 31, 2042

Would need a January UY. There are none. But in theory 2041 would be last year of dues.

I feel like I'd borrow that final use year of 2041 into the 2040 use year to ensure I use the final points. I wonder if Disney will require the final year's dues be paid at use otherwise people could just not pay the last year of dues What are they going to do? Take it back? Lol

Yeah I bet they change the rules somehow to ensure they get their money. lol. The last couple of years will prob be especially hard to book as everyone is going to want to visit the last year.

Could DVC do something like limit borrowing to 50% like it did with COVID though? Lots of interesting things to watch out for!

I mean if I had a Dec UY, I’d be pissed, unless they let me borrow 100%.

Yes they have to be used by 1/31/2042. I have a December use year and will certainly be following this closely as we get into 2039ish. My husband wants to be there on closing day, but I imagine that reservation will be heavily walked!
