New to the boards and read this thread and thought I would post my own story as it fits perfectly with my life right now.
Last year I made the serious life changing decision to attempt to lose 100 pounds. Primarily because of health reasons and so I could set a great example for my twin 5 year old daughters. We also had a DL trip planned for April and I wanted to have lost enough weight that I could easily enjoy the rides with my daughters without feeling so over weight. Walk the park without becoming exhausted too soon. Just be able to enjoy everything without having my weight keep me down.
By the time we took our DL trip I had lost about 45 pounds and was feeling great! My girls loved going and having their Dad with them on most of the rides (something I struggled with in past). It probably was the best time I ever experienced at DL.
Fast forward to today, I am now at 98 total pounds lost and looking extremely forward to our family DW trip this July. I have more energy now than I ever had before. I have gone from barely able to run a 1/4 mile to running 2 miles a day, 5 days a week. Controlling my food intake so I'm not overeating (my biggest problem). I'm looking forward to enjoying everything DW has to offer and knowing I can keep up with my girls while we both get to experience DW for the first time together.
The keys to weightloss I have found that help is understand that you can still enjoy the food you want while dieting. Moderation is key. You dont have to starve yourself or eat food you hate to diet. Portion control is the biggest part of dieting. We've all grown up on bigger is better and I for one trained my stomach to think it needed lots and lots of food during meals before I lost the weight. After a few weeks of normal size portions your stomach begins to shrink and your fuller with less food. There are calorie calculators on the internet or phone apps that can tell you for your height and weight how many calories you need to intake. While at DL I did this and while it was somewhat difficult, I came home gaining only a pound.
Activity is the other key. Get up and walk! I bought a activity tracker and I use it religiously. At DL I found that we walked nearly 20k in steps almost everyday we were in the park. This is twice the recommended steps you get in a single day. Combined with my calorie app on my phone I can see clearly what it takes to maintain or lose weight daily while at the resort.
Now with all that said, I still plan to enjoy myself at DW and partake in eating some not so good food for me. We purchased the DDP and have it fairly planned out. I still will try and watch myself but while still enjoying the food during our 10 day stay. Can't wait to go in July!
