People, you are witnesses to history!!!!!!!

My DH, who two years ago swore adamantly that he would never pay over $100 a night for a "hotel room", just made me book BWI concierge for Thanksgiving AND he doesn't care that it will probably be rack rate, which is $490 plus tax!!!!!!!! Just take a look at my sig to see where we've stayed-pay particular attention to the "early years". It started gradually, when we got AKL for $119-we were booked at ASMu and DH said we could try AKL. It helped that they upgraded us from standard to deluxe pool view. Then we tried CSR. Not deluxe, but REALLY nice anyway. We saved up for a whole year to do the WL and it's still my favorite resort. I think the values lost their appeal for him after a stay at PC last winter when DS got very sick and the whole trip was miserable-not the fault of PC, but just wasn't a fun trip.

Well, after our last few stays and this last stay at the Poly, my DH refuses to stay anything but deluxe. This is my construction worker, drink beer while watching football on the couch all weekend, pick-up truck driving DH!!!!He suddenly wants to be pampered :snooty:

I wanted to stay at CSR for Thanksgiving and he wouldn't hear of it!!!!!

This is a problem for me, since I really want to try ASMU, PC again, POR and I LOVE CSR (even more so than some deluxes). Help!!!! Has this happened to a loved one of yours (or to you?) Is there a cure for RSD (Resort Snob Disorder)??? :confused3

That's too funny. My husband has become the same which is ironic since I travel for work which has allowed me to stay in some pretty swanky places and he's usually up for the flea bag joints.

Isn't it funny how that works?! My husband can be the ultimate cheap-o and he is now hooked on the deluxes as well! When I was planning our very first trip he was INSISTENT that we should stay off site to save money. I had reservations for an off site hotel but was still pushing for on site. Between booking it and travelling my parents bought an RV and offered to take us for Christmas. Well, Ft. Wilderness was full so we were at an off site campground that was only a few minutes away. By day 2 of that trip he was sold on staying on site. Now not only is he an on site guy, he's a deluxe resort guy. ;) One of his former coworkers just returned from a trip that I had booked for her. She called yesterday to tell us how much fun they had and DH talked to her for about 20 minutes and was going on about how it's just not worth it to say offsite blah blah blah....my how times change! :teeth:

It's my 5 year old son though that is our ultimate resort snob. He LOVES WL and Poly. One of his preschool classmates went last year during school. I was talking to his mom at pickup and Brandon says to her son "what hotel are you staying at?" He asks his Mom who answers "Pop Century." Brandon says "MOM?!?! Does Pop Century have a monorail or a boat?" I tell him it has buses but no boats or monorails and he turns to his friend and says "you gotta make your mom change that hotel. It's not a good one. It doesn't have a monorail or a boat so you hafta ride the bus everywhere. It's not really a Disney hotel if it doesn't have a monorail or a bus!" :earseek: :rotfl2: I was turning 9 shades of red and saying "no, it is a nice hotel!" as her son is saying "MOM! We need to stay at the Polynesian like Brandon!" to which she replies "no, hon, that's too much money." My ever so helpful, cut out to be a TA son pipes up and says "No, Daddy says only the Grand Floridian is too much money!" :earseek:

I've got one too. This is so funny. The first year we went it was the Fairytale vacation package - Stay 7 nights, pay for 4 so we booked the GF. We weren't supposed to go back for two years. I couldn't stand it so I talked DH into going the next year but we would cut costs and stay at POR (needed room for 5). The whole time I was planning that vacation he kept saying - How much is this going to cost me? He didn't have any excitement and I was afraid I made a mistake. Well to make a long story short, POR was fine for me - not DH. After checking in, looking at the room, and going on the bus to MK, DH decides to hop the ferry over and see if we could switch back to GF. I wasn't sure we could still get the AP discount at GF, but DH didn't even care. Turns out they were able to honor the AP discount but now I realized I had created a resort snob also. Now he won't even consider anything but deluxes, even though the kids would love to try out POP or ASM! You never know.

Aren't kids the funniest???? My DS is pretty much the same about the pool, etc. Personally, I like riding the Disney buses and it doesn't bother me at all... and I think the hippy dippy pool is so cool !

My family is the same way. I keep saying that I would like to try POR, but nooooo, not if they don't have concierge. Not even if it means we could have two rooms, no deal. We have the BWI concierge booked for August and the Poly for December! :earseek:

And POFQ is sooooo pretty!!!!!!! Have any of you been there????? The only thing that didn't thrill me was the pool area, but that resort is just gorgeous!!!!!!

I made the mistake of booking some of our PS at deluxes this trip, now my husband is making sure we stay at AKL for our next trip. I am squeezing in a couple of nights at POR just because the kids and I love it. He went from a value man to a deluxe man in one meal.

Well - my DH and I are BOTH resort snobs. Take a look at our history:

1994: Off-site (honeymoon!)
1995: All Star Music, All Star Music
1996: Caribbean Beach
1997: Caribbean Beach
1998: off-site, Coronado Springs
1999: Contemporary, Coronado Springs
2000: no trip to Disney
2001: Beach Club, Yacht Club
2002: Grand Floridian, Beach Club
2003: Wilderness Lodge
2004: Polynesian, Polynesian, Swan (yep...went 3x in 2004)
2005: Leaving in 30 days for the Beach Club! Yahooooo!

It start in slow, and then it starts to grow! We have never paid rack rate at a Deluxe, nor will we, but we can't imagine not staying at a deluxe. If I HAD to, I could do a moderate, but definitely no more value resorts!

PamNC

Amen! DH has been doing budget stuff all week and just emailed me AGAIN with all the receipts for May and how much $$ we spend, Blah, blah, blah! So I looked into staying at a Mod for our Dec trip (would have booked a Value but it's the week of Pop Warner). Also check off-site, WL for a cheaper Deluxe, even renting points from DVC member. Give all my estimates, numbers, etc to DH thinking he'll be so happy that I'm taking the budget seriously and trying to save us money... Was he happy???? NO!!!!!!!!!!!! He won't even consider staying anywhere NOT on the monorail and with less than 2 rooms! So we're still on for the GF 2 rooms. I think I've definitely got a resort snob here too! :confused3

Maybe I'll just have to do a trip to PC or ASMo with just me and the kids. I know they'd love the theming and pools. Great excuse for another trip! ;)

LOL! DH and I started off wrong...our first trip together was our honeymoon and we stayed at the GF!

:rotfl: Ah, there is no cure for such a disorder! We stayed at the CR once, but DH didn't care for the theming. Still, I would definitely say that DH is at least an onsite resort snob now. We stayed offsite once, and I doubt that DH would ever do it again. Our last stay was at CSR and we really really loved it there. I would love to try the Poly or AKL someday. I am willing to bet that DH will come out with the same ailment your DH has if we do stay there ;)

We returned from POR 5 weeks ago and absolutely loved that resort!! All those beautiful paths and wonderful landscaping made it feel so very peaceful! The boat ride to DTD was so nice and convenient. I have never stayed at a deluxe, however, we had visited some of them when we were there. WL, POLY, BW, FW, YC,BC. Although very beautiful, I would never be able to justify all the extra money spent. I definitely do not understand why people would pay so much extra for concierge either. Everyone has their own opinions though. If I had to stay at a deluxe it would most likely be the POLY. To be honest, I would rather enter our room from the outside rather than a hallway. Maybe thats why I have seen so many complaints about the POLY being so noisy. I actually thought that POR had sound-proofed rooms. It was so peaceful and quiet. We had a room right at a quiet pool and never heard a peep! I'd have to look out the window to see if anyone was in the pool and at times it would be pretty crowded. Also, when we were at BW and took the bus to DTD we had to stop at all the other surrounding resorts! Swan,Dolphin, Beach & Yacht Clubs ! It felt like forever!!! I don't know if they always share transportation like that but if so I would not stay at any of those resorts just for that reason alone! The deluxes we visited just did not have that cozy feeling that POR had. Sorry, just my opinion. I just have better things to spend all the extra money I save on. I really think Disney should build a few more moderates! We paid $120/nite with our AP and thought we got much more than what we paid for! It costs that much or more to stay at a motel on the interstates! If you haven't tried POR yet I recommend you do, then see all the extra things you can spend your savings on !!! :teeth:

I think that's my problem too! DH's first trip to Disney was our honeymoon at the Poly! We had a wonderful LV room that looked directly at Cinderella's castle. I bet you're right!!

Oh yeah! Now I love a nice place as much as anyone and Poly is my favorite hands down, but I think the Mods are great too. We started planning our Aug vacation with a driving trip to Hershey park then Dh says lets go to WDW if we do a value it won't be much more. Well we booked that then moved up to POR and 4 nights at Hard Rock b/c they had a deal. Then Dh decided to do an annual pass and get us a better rate for POR next thing I know we are woods view at WL! With him geting quotes for CR and Poly with the new dining plan. He is the one who CLAIMS not to even be a big Disney fan and it's all for me and DD. Yeah keep talking budddy.

Count us in on being a resort snob!!!! My kids can't even fathom going to disney and NOT staying on the monorail loop. The first time we took them we stayed at WL (myDD was under 3) and the boat ride to MK was great. The next couple of time were GF and CR (tower). Now there is no turning back!!!!!

:earsboy: :earsgirl: pirate: pirate: princess:
1976-offsite
1977-CR
1980-CR
1984-CR
1988-CR
1992-offsite-what was I thinking!(newlywed, saving $$$)
2000-WL
2002-GF
2004-CR
2006-Hopefully CR or VWL

I admit , we are resorts snobs also! Our first trip was at the Polynesian and have been going since. We did try GF (only by accident) but didn't like it.
We trying the YC in August.
To make matters worse we stayed concierge a few times ago, and became hooked. My 2 DD, 11 & 14 now think that's the only way we should vacation!
I feel sorry for their husbands :earseek:

No cure at all. Up to 5 years ago we always stayed offsite. Not fleabags, but the least expensive I could wrangle. DH is a very careful accountant. So when DS was 14 we walked around the Boardwalk area and he asked if we could maybe stay there "just once". Figuring that as a teen he wouldn't want to vacation with parents much longer we SKIPPED the next year's vacation to be able to stay at the Boardwalk in a 1 bedroom the next year.

That's all it took. Between the space in those rooms, the amenities and the HUGE improvement in vactaion by staying onsite (no more commando or driving in Kissimmee for us!) we never looked back. Not only Deluxe, but we bought into the DVC within a month!

... and by the way the teenager we though wouldn't want to vacation with us never quite got there. He's 22 now and he's spoiled, too.

DW and I had both been before, but always stayed off site, then came our honeymoon at the WL! We've been twice since, both times off site again, but will finally be back on site next month, back at the WL, with the kids and my parents (who've never stayed on site before). We're even going concierge! It 'll be interesteing to see how often we go back after this, and where we stay.
