Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend 2026

Just looked up the rundisalert openings going back to mid Feb and I saw plenty (plenty being a relative term) for the DL Halloween half but don’t think there were any for the 5k or 10k. Saw quite a few 5k openings for specifically Springtime Surprise, which fits what @The Expert was saying about challenges, SS is a rare weekend where the 5k is included in the challenge and it also makes sense that they’d break up challenge bibs (from charities probably).

Another thing that new Disneyland runners should be aware of especially compared to WDW is that the sweep can work very differently out west, especially for the 5K.

Disney can and will shorten the 5K course in order to get runners out of the parks well in advance of opening. This past January during the 5K, there was a long line for Mickey and Minnie in their superhero shirts by Carthay Circle Theatre. The cast members were warning anyone getting in line that if we stayed in line, we might not be able to make the Groot line over by Mission Breakout as well. They also warned us that Disney might cut the course if we stayed in line.

I later on heard runners complaining how upset they were that runDisney cut the course as they missed running through Avengers Campus and Carsland.

So, it's important to remember that DCA opens no later than 9:00am and the last of the 5K runners are finishing after 6:30. As with all runDisney events, remember that a sweep or course shortening can happen not because of weather, but rather because of the logistics of clearing the parks before they open when that applies. So if a particular aspect of the course is important to run through, listen to warnings and be prepared to choose what you value more, that rare photo or running through a certain area of the park(s).

As always, my "warning" to new runDisney runners is that character stops are part of your mile time. So if you ran mile 2 in 10 minutes, but spent 30 minutes in line for photos, you really ran that mile in 40 minutes. Which can place you at risk of being swept. They will warn you where the balloon ladies. During one race, I was in DCA and they told us the balloon ladies were in Galaxy's Edge. This was to help us decide if the 30 minute line for Chip and Dale was "worth it." Slower runners may not be able to stop for every photo. They may have to choose which one matters most.

As a guideline, I recommend that if you're going to the parks after the race, then you may want to focus on "rare" characters during the races with the caveat that sometimes, the fab 5 can be in rare costumes during the race. Case in point, Chip and Dale were in their race costumes for the Halloween 5K last year and normal Halloween costumes in the parks. Mickey and Minnie were together in their Halloween costumes during the 5K.

Someone remind me again when 2026 DL hotels bookings open up????
Similar to Walt Disney World, it seems to vary from year to year. Last year I believe it was during the second half of August for the following year’s reservation. I believe August 21. I remember calling several times prior to August and getting a variety of rumor and speculation from the various cast members I asked but nothing concrete.

I was about ready to check out for the 10k when my wife texted me the kids can do it too. I went back and forth with her because I wasn’t sure if she was joking. So we missed out on that. I’m looking to try a half marathon next year and TBH I’d rather do that in Disney World.

I GOT THE 10K! I am super excited. I have done the 5K and Half prior years at DL, so this feels like it will bring me full circle in my runDisney journey. Now I gotta start looking at hotels. Congrats to all who were able to secure spots. This may be the last DL races for some time.

Started looking hotels yesterday and the hope was to stay around Disney Way. Since already going to WDW MW, tried to keep it basic for the DL race. I ended up booking a room at Hotel LuLu to make sure I had a room. But will probably keep looking over the next several months.

Any one else????? I went in to sign my waiver yesterday (or at least look at it) and I clicked on the link in my email, clicked on "myself", then I got the dreaded Stitch ate the page. Now under my RunDisney account it shows that I have not registered for any events. That was yesterday and it's still the same today. Emailed RunDisney and waiting back for help. Anyone else have this happen to them???

I just went to sign my waiver, no issues. Would say you're good if you've been charged and got the confirmation email, obviously worth emailing them and getting it sorted out though.

I really liked hotel Lulu the one time I stayed there. I have it booked but also have some cheaper options booked. Hotel Lulu is right next to the Toy Story parking lot so when you go to the park you can walk to the parking lot and take the shuttle to save some steps. Sometimes they have a bag check there and it’s quicker than the DL Harbor one it seems. The in room coffee is horrible instant coffee but they sell coffee and food in the lobby.

Now that everything's settled with registration, it's important to start planning for everything you'll be eating this weekend, so here's a long list of special menu items during the 70th anniversary celebration. More info on the 70th here!
As long as I get a chimichanga from a food cart I will be good. Every time we go to WDW we always say that we wish that WDW had the chimichangas from DL. Might try to stop in for a Monte Cristo also at Cafe Orleans (I would prefer Blue Bayou but I haven't been able to score a reservation there for a trip since they went to the reservation system).

We are DVC members and really hoping to stay in the Disneyland Hotel or the Grand Californian. We have to wait until June to book. I may book somewhere else for the moment.

What are the the typical hours for the DL expo? I am planning on flying in on Thursday. Right now I am only registered for Dumbo, but thinking of adding the 5k through a charity. I am definitely trying to take the first flight out, but just thinking ahead in case there are flight issues. I usually like to fly in a day prior to the check in date, but with work and also missing a week for MW, need to tread lightly on how many days of work I am missing at the end of the month.

The Expo page from this past January's races is still up:
