Gettin Tossed from the Pool

You need to give your room number at the Dolphin's Grotto Pool to receive towels. I always have my key with me and in my hand when I pick up our towels.

Come to think of it, we stayed at Swan 2 years ago and we had to show resort ID to get towels. I never had to show any form of ID to get towels at SSR,BCV, or AKV. We stayed at the Dolphin for 2 days prior to checking in at BCV but we didn't use the pool, we used those days as Epcot/DHS days since I knew we had SAB coming up.

I have never been asked to show resort id while swimming at the pool and I'm I haven't been asked only my husband carries his with us. I would a bit annoyed I was kicked out of the pool and had to go back up to my room to get it. I guess we better bring both of them for our upcoming trip in september.

We were at the Contemporary for a week last July, used the pool almost every day, and never got questioned at all. :confused3

Of course, we spent a lot of our time at the "water spouts" -- and who in their right mind would hassle these little angels about anything?...

Oh there be two hooligans if ever I saw 'em.

I've seen them before

Hmm.... I've never really thought about this, but after reading this thread, I do recall two late teenage boys using the GF pool one afternoon in the first week of January (right after New Year's). The resort was pretty quiet in general, but the pools were completely empty. The fact that these two guys were in the pool was no big deal, as pretty much no one was swimming. The only reason why these two come to mind is because they were each carrying their own huge duffel bags with them. I also recall them getting to the pool, putting towels down, and then sauntering off into the men's restroom with their duffel bags, coming out in bathing suits, and setting their duffel bags down by the chairs. Now, I'm not Sherlock Holmes, I just remember watching because a) the pool was empty, and b) I was a 19 y.o. girl at the time - you honestly can't blame me! I know the CMs around the pool (getting drinks, tidying up) didn't seem to even notice, but then again, there were only five people in the pool or something.

As the OP has mentioned (twice, I think), SAB is an exception, so I won't even go there (note that I've stayed at the YC and BCV during peak season, so I've seen the worst... :rolleyes1). I wish the CMs checked AKL when we were there in August. The pool was packed, and while most people were probably guests since that resort is away from the parks (well with the exception of AK, of course), it would be nice to make sure people really are guests. It's so hard to get a pool chair(s) these days, I just would rather be searching for a chair(s) among fellow hotel guests than people who randomly come into the resort and plop themselves down at the pool. Please, no flames. :)

I think they may be cracking down. When I was at SAB in Sept there were Cms at most areas of the pool, particularly where towels were handed out that checked /issued wristbands. The Cm actually made me go back to my room and get my Dh 's and DD KTTW BEFORE they would issue any of us wristbands. Then they walked the pool area checking bands.Other trips to BC they checked but not as much as my recent trip

In April, I had to go to the pool to bring keys for my daughter and her 2 friends before the CM would give them a bracelet.

Flame suit on, having seen an id check while pool hopping and not being checked ourselves I'd say they are looking for a certain type of people. We have never been asked to leave any pool and if we were I would not see it as I problem we could just go to our own resort pool.
We started going when pool hopping was allowed and encourage by disney a bit like when mugs had a lifetime refill.

Not necessarily. We were checked at Wilderness Lodge and at Boardwalk. At WL my son (mid 20's) was with my GD in the pool. They weren't loud or anything. She was swimming and he was watching her. Everyone at the pool was asked for ID. At Boardwalk, I was by myself. I'm definitely not a type that would be on anyone's radar.:rotfl: I was in my mid forty's just quietly standing in the pool holding onto the edge. Again everyone around the pool was asked for ID that evening. It wasn't even particularly crowded.:confused3

Had our IDs checked at the Poly ... I don't think we have anywhere else, other than SAB.

Three teenage girls, literally, took over the lobby restroom at BC last September, not letting my 4-year-old DS use a stall, while they changed into their bathing suits. Last we saw of them they were heading toward SAB and I was itching to watch what happened as the guards were pretty lax in checking IDs there last September, but, alas, I had other plans.

Well I hope they are checking AKL and Poly in the next couple of weeks, we are bringing 2 water loving teenage boys whose main interest are the pools - CLEAR THE PLACE PLEASE:rotfl2: Only other experience of Disney pools is SAB, sometimes checked, sometimes not, really no bother, in fact I welcome it.

Those are the most adorable angels ever!

For the record Ive never been Id'd but I've only ever stayed Value... and they arent amazing pools I'd want to hop to. They are great for a cool off but not hot tubs or slides.. so:)

Last August when my daughter and I stayed at the Contemporary, there were several teenagers in the hot tub (age 17) they told us that they lived in Florida and that their parents would drop them off at different resorts so that they could use the pools and pick them up a few hours later. I have stayed at Disney 6 times in the last 7 years and no one in my family has ever been asked for ID. This April my family and I stayed at Coronado Springs and we met a father with a young son who basically said the same thing. He would bring his young son to use the pool, stay a few hours and then go home. I couldn't believe it.

Sounds like Six-Flag here in the DC metro area. It's pretty much a babysitting service. Folks buy their kids summer passes for less than $100 and drop them off everyday before they go to work. One of the reasons we don't go there. I'm sure lots of theme parks, water parks, and resort areas see the same pattern.

I was asked to leave the Wishes cruise after playing this on my iPod and portable speakers. I mean, it did seem appropriate.
I mean you were "on a boat", I couldn't imagine a more appropriate venue for the song.

I hope your I-Pod made it back safely after your swim in the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Sounds like Adventure Island in Tampa. Yet another reason not to go there, besides the fact that the place always seems dirty and they charge $10 to park... at a freakin' waterpark!

Back to what the OP brought up. I don't think a lack of enforcement of the rules is ever a justification for breaking them. In my mind (and according to Disney policy) swimming at a resort where you are not a guest is equivalent to stealing. Period, end of story. You may get away with it, but that doens't make it right, and certainly won't change my (or others') opinions about the subject.

We were never asked at CSR or at POFQ. We did hear someone bragging in the POFQ hot tub that they were a local and that they always loved to just use the resort pools on the weekends. :headache:

The most frustrating part of it was that the hot tub isn't really that big to begin with.. so locals using it really does make a difference.

I'm just curious as to how many who people heard from the horses mouth that certain people didn't belong at a resort, went and reported them. I wonder if the lifeguards would really do anything, or if they would just blow you off.:confused3

We were never asked for our KTTW cards at the CR pool (we haven't been there in 4 years), however we are always asked at SAB.

I totally agree :thumbsup2 the pools are crowded enough with the guest but golly to not have a chair to sit in at the resort I paid for ...while many of the non guest are lounging in chairs meant for me  STAY AT YOUR OWN POOL PEOPLE :lmao: seriously ~ if you want to be at a certain pool then pay to stay at that resort ...easy simple and to the point! LOL

I have never been one to tattle on pool hoppers but if I go down to the pool I am paying to use and there are no chairs and someone comments or I overhear they don't belong ..you bet your sweet bottom I am reporting them and if the life guard doesn't do something I will report him too :rotfl2:
We are planning a lot of pool time on our trip due to the heat. All of the pools are crowded during the summer ..if you throw in dead beat pool hoppers ...well it just makes it worse. I will applaud anyone that has to take the pool hopper walk of shame... I will point and laugh at them ..heck I might even take photos :lmao:
