Gettin Tossed from the Pool

We stayed at BCV for a week in June and were NEVER asked for resort ID to enter SAB which we did daily. Having said that, I encouraged the kids to get wristbands because they were using the slide and they obviously had no way to keep a room key on them so it was more for my peace of mind. I would hate for them to leave the pool area, walk all the way to the top of the slide, and be denied entry up there. I personally did not get in the pool but used the beach chairs and nursed my drink while working on my tan so I never did get a wristband and was never asked to produce ID which I had on my anyway so we could eat at Hurricane Hannahs on the DDP. I acted as the resort ID keeper/beach chair lizard for the rest of our stay.

We then moved to Kidani for a week. The gates to the pool have an electronic lock that needed a room key for entry so you don't need a wristband but a lot of times, people came and went behind each other so it would have been silly to wait till the gate locked, use your resort key, and go through the gate when there were several people behind you. It was also nice to not have to check out life vests, they were conveniently located poolside.

Defiantley NOT encouraging pool hoping. And I wanted to be specific because the Pool hoping "issue" is s sperate debate that has been argued ad-naseu and Storm Along Bay now employs the wrist band so that is an obvious one.

It simply came from a debate where I figured you had a be a total druken fool or obviously stand out in some way. I see that is not the case and I find it very interesting.

I'm glad you brought it up :goodvibes. This is a discussion board, right?

...On a serious side, my 15 yo grandson was at the quiet pool at BCV in May this year and the guards (resort guard not life guard) carded him whenever he was at the pool in the evening without us. He was alone and just sitting in the hot tub. He said it was racial, I say she didn't have enough to do (sadly, he was probably right).....

Maybe it was a "cuteness" factor???

We've been checked at the Poly in January and September. Not sure why we were checked in January - it wasn't that crowded, but they checked everyone. It's possible that they had just removed someone that we didn't see and they just decided to check everyone else. Maybe we just look suspicious :rotfl2:, but they did check everyone else that we saw.

Seems like we had to go back to the room to get DD's room card at SAB before we could get in. I think she was about 3 and wouldn't have been hopping by herself (we had our room keys), but that's OK. :goodvibes

During my families previous stays at the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge we were asked multiple times to show our KTTW cards. In fact during our one and only stay at the Polynesian in December 2007 we were also asked there to show our KTTW cards.

I did notice that they had CM stationed strategically at all the entrances at SAB specifically to hand out wristbands. We somehow just happened to be the guests that entered the pool area while they went to the restroom/tended to other business. Come to think of it, dh borrowed a lifevest for ds one day and they asked for his room key at that time but neither dh or ds had wristbands.:confused3

Mid-March 2009 we were asked for key cards at BCV pool every time including for kids, and it wasn't even busy.

Maybe a silly question, but are the KTTW cards coded to a certain resort? Or could you show your Pop keycard to get into SAB? Not that I would do it, just curiuos.

I ,for one, am glad that the resorts seem to be staying on top of this. While trying to decide between the Poly or BC for our next trip, I was actually factoring in the pool hopping problem. I read on here that the Poly has many pool hoppers and the last thing I want is to pay that much money and not be able to get a chair! So, BC seems like a much better choice as far as the pool issue!

Comparing both KTTW cards from BCV and Kidani, I'm guessing the resort ID is the first 4 digits of the ID#. Just a guess.

I wouldn't stay at BC if one of your criteria is "which resort is least likely to have pool-hoppers". SAB is arguably the most popular pool in all of WDW, making it a ripe target for pool hoppers. The only reason the volcano pool at Poly is anywhere close in popularity is its proximity to MK and the monorail.

I wouldn't use pool-hopping as a factor in deciding between one resort and another. All the deluxe pools have their share of pool-hoppers. But it sounds like the resorts are starting to crack down more than in my experience.

We've stayed at multiple resorts in the past and have only ever been asked for KTTW when staying at the Deluxe resorts. And it is normally during peak times. We have however witnessed people being asked to leave that could'nt produce ID on many occassions.

DVC members staying on points are allowed to pool hop to Poly except during black out dates so it is possible you'll have guests from other resorts at this pool.

We were asked once at AKL last summer, and the next day the same lifeguard came over to check wristbands again and remembered me 'cause I was joking with him. In March we didn't get asked, but then again it was in the 40's and way too cold to swim.

At POFQ last summer we got asked one day as well. The lifeguard told me that during the summer months they do frequent checks of the guests, especially if they have a "problem" guest so it looks like one group isn't being targeted. Don't know if that's true or not though.

Also was asked for our room key at WL over Spring Break, but we weren't swimming and were dressed in street clothes on our way to see the geyser. :confused3 That was a weird one.

So it seems to me that if the resorts are busy or if its a popular or very warm time of the year then you will get asked, and if you go when crowds are low or it isn't that warm out then you don't. :)

Hmm, good question. If you "flash" your card, I don't see how they can tell what resort you're at. If you need to swipe the card to get an arm band, that's different cause they can get all your info, like entering a theme park.

For reference I tried to find an old key card to see if the resort is written on there. But they are no where to be found right now.

Based on what others have said on here yes the numbers listed on your KTTW cards are specific to the resort your staying at, so that's how the lifeguards know who is allowed to be swimming at the specific pools when they check them.

We were at the Contemporary for a week last July, used the pool almost every day, and never got questioned at all. :confused3

Of course, we spent a lot of our time at the "water spouts" -- and who in their right mind would hassle these little angels about anything?...

One of the strings of numbers on the key card is a resort code.

I get kicked out of WDW pools repeatedly.

Reasons I was given for being asked to leave:

hitting other people's children
farting too much in the hot tub
cursing loudly to myself and others
fighting
being too drunk (seriously can you ever be too drunk?)
dunking others under the water for long periods of time (both family members and complete strangers)
slapping the lifeguard and stealing his whistle and hotdog (red flotation device)
trying to eat the lifeguard's red flotation device
climbing the volcano at the Poly pool (nude)
allowing my children to smoke in the pool (hey, they are 10 and 11, plenty old enough to not burn anyone)
urinating in the bushes
bringing my dog, he laid a big one on the squirting fountain at the beach pool at the GF (his name is booger, cute right?)
throwing up ( I guess you can be too drunk)
giving beer out of my rolling cooler to minors (some parents are soooo overprotective)
playing inappropriate music loudly from my rolling cooler (yeah it has a radio) (I also think "I'm On a Boat" by Lonely Planet is completely appropriate for all ages)

Anyhoo, it seems that those Disney people don't know how to have fun! They will throw you out for anything! Ridiculous!

BTW I'm totally Kidding! In case any of you thought I was serious. I've done all of those things at Disney pools and have never gotten kicked out! LOL! Just Kidding again!
