Okay so another thread brought a very interesting debate between my wife and I. I am well aware pool hoping is not allowed and I have NO interest in hearing peoples opinion on it.

I have been going to Disney for 30+ years and never, not once have I been asked to show my resort id at the pool. Now I know many of you have in fact been asked to show your id and actually seen people tossed.

So what I want to know is this, WHY did they target you or the people you saw? I can think of some pretty obvious ones for sure but am very curious.

Also Storm Along Bay is a completley different type of place so forget that one. Sorry.

We were asked for our room key at SAB. We were staying at the BCV and each member of our party was asked for an individual KTTW card. We were then given wrist bands and towels.
They did check for the wristbands if you left the pool area and wanted to be readmitted.

My experience as well.Plus I saw this large group come over from Epcot, walk into the pool area and sit down ( no armbands) and then started to brag about how it is cheaper to swim at SAB then go to one of the waterparks...They got in the pool and were quite obnoxious.well then the pool cms made rounds and lo and behold no armbands, no room ids, and bye bye.The pool was quite crowded, this group was loud, rowdy and attracted attention to themselves to begin with.

As far as I can remember, I have never been asked to show ID at a resort pool. However, we are not huge pool users so perhaps that's why.
But come to think of it, how many of you have been asked to show ID to use the buses? I don't know what the policy is now, but you used to have to be a Resort guest to use the bus system.

I was at the Beach Club in 2007. My wife and I were asked for our resort keys every single time we went to SAB.

Other than that, I've never been asked for my room key anywhere else.

Anyone can use the buses

I was a bus driver at WDW way back when and the only place where we were "supposed" to ask was down at the non disney hotels that skirted the edges of Hotel Plaza Blvd. You could see people running through the bushes of their hotels out at Lake Buena Vista to catch my bus. It was pretty funny actually. But back to the main topic at hand and remember I don't want to hear about Storm Along Bay ;-)

I have taken over 25 trip to WDW and always stayed on site at various levels of hotel including The Beach Club and I have never been asked for resort ID.

I have going to WDW for 20+ years and have stayed from Deluxe to Value and have never been asked to show a resort ID nor have I seen anyone else asked to show one.

Why start a topic like this?
Do you want to advocate pool hopping ore encourage people to do so? :confused3

I have never been asked to show ID at a resort pool. I would imagine people wearing street clothes, and changing in the restrooms, as well as large or obnoxious groups, would be targeted. I can't see a family minding their own business, following the rules, being asked except in a general check of all the guests.

We've been staying at WDW resorts for probably the past 10-15 years, and have never been asked by anyone, for our KTTW cards, while at the pool.

When I've seen it done, they've checked everyone at the pool area. I never take anything to the pool but a tiny pouch for my cell phone and resort ID, and a book. No big bags or anything that would indicate that I took a bus over and changed clothes, and yet they still check my ID.

The checking of IDs seems to be on the increase in recent years, and especially within the last year or so. They must be having more of a problem with non-guests using the pools these days. I know that I've seen large groups of locals kicked out of resort pools on a number of occasions lately, and I don't remember seeing that years ago.

We were asked at WL once and AKL once, at AKL we had to go back to room and get it and they came back by to check, this was when it first opened other than that, no where else in many, many years..

I was at Coronado Springs from July 4th to the 11th and i went to the pool every night. I never was asked for my room card or anything when I was there.

I've heard stories of people being turned away from MK area resorts but never witnessed it myself.

Boardwalk and MK resorts may have a problem with pool hoppers because they're easy to get to.

If a pool is really busy and or you attract attention to yourself you may get asked for ID.

Lets see if I can say this delicately;
If you are middle age and not a party animal you'll most likely be over looked.
BTW, I'm 10 years past middle age and way over the hill so I can say that. :lmao:

We were seated next to some people at the Poly pool who were asked for ID last summer. When they couldn't produce it, they were asked to leave. The "guests" didn't make a big fuss. They seemed embarrassed to be caught and kind of slunk out. By the time security got to our section, we already had our room keys out and in plain view, so they walked on by.:confused3

We were asked at AKL one time out of all the times we have stayed there. This particular time was a crowded time with a ton of teens/young adults and a bit of rowdys. I have 2 teens and also was traveling with 2 college aged nephews so don't flame me. We were most likely asked because of the crowds not the fact that we owned 4 of these loud creatures.:cool1:

BTW, my youngest was the only one not carrying his KTTW card that day out of the 8 of us. They did let him slide as I guess they figured he had to be with us.

I have been asked a few times. Once at Boardwalk. We had just checked in and decided to use the pool. We stored our luggage but then went to lunch and shopping. So we came to the pool with bags and backpacks (I had the suits in a backpack). We changed in the restrooms. We probably looked very much like a pool hopper over from Epcot or MGM to cool off and the place was packed (hot day). I showed him my id, he was nice, apologized. Later, I saw some people escorted out.

At the Poly, they checked id's, asked a family to leave. The lifeguard was about to ask for my id, but then he said "oh I know you", he had talked with us the day before about a baseball cap my son was wearing and he remembered us.

At the DLH in Disneyland, my son left that gated area to use the bathroom, forgot his key and just waited to come in on the heels of another guest. He was asked by a lifeguard who thought he was sneaking in, he pointed me out and the lifeguard thanked him and let him go on his way.

All of these times, I was at resorts that are walking distance to a park. Those are the ones where lifeguards have to be the most diligent.

I have seen the lifeguards at SSR ask before, being so close to DTD it probably gets its share of hoppers.

Its not that common to be asked. But let me tell you, having to do the Pooh Hoppers Walk of Shame if you get kicked out looks might embarrassing. So I don't recommend it. And if you do and a disboarder is there keeping tabs, God help you!
