Gettin Tossed from the Pool

"Would you go to a fancy restaurant and swipe the food off of someone elses plate while walking by so you don't have to order from the menu?! :scared:"

Nope. But I *would* take the monorail from MK to the Contemporary to hit CM with a Glad disposable container and fill it up to eat later. Even if I hadn't paid to eat there.:confused3 I don't see what the big deal is. They are making all that food available and obviously no one can eat that much. How am I taking anything away from paying customers? You get to eat, I get to eat, and the chefs just keep making more. Plus, if that was really against the rules, there would be signs that say "You must pay to eat here." I mean really. Is it hurting you or do you just not want me and my riff-raff kids at your fancy-schmancy buffet?:rotfl:

Because ITS TACKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1::lmao:

Seriously that is so tacky! If you didn't pay for something then you shouldn't use it.... rather it be a dining place or a pool. It is stealing... no ands ifs or buts about it .. its theft.

We then moved to Kidani for a week. The gates to the pool have an electronic lock that needed a room key for entry so you don't need a wristband but a lot of times, people came and went behind each other so it would have been silly to wait till the gate locked, use your resort key, and go through the gate when there were several people behind you. It was also nice to not have to check out life vests, they were conveniently located poolside.

We were in Jambo and used the Kidani pool. Good thing it is out of the way to hoppers, because it is small! Fun but small.

I saw that they had the vests in the bin so guests could just grab them, but then a few days later we were in Comm Hall at SSR and they still issue vests. A dad came in to get his little guy a vest and Sundee took great care in ensuring the vest fit him properly and that he would not have problems with it on the slide. Made me question the convenience factor over safety. She was really helpful and Im sure many parents who dont use vests regularly would not know how to properly fit them.

I've read on these boards and this thread that it happens but I've never seen it or been asked to show a room key at any resort pool, including SAB. By the same token I've neve had any interest in pool hopping.

This thread has been an eye opener. I never knew so many people took advantage of what is not theirs. As far as SAB goes, every time I bring up the possibility of staying at the Beach Club, DH says that he would prefer not to stay there because of its lack of privacy and proximity to the public that walks the boardwalk. When DS was little, my husband didn't like the idea of DS walking so far away and out of sight to use the slide, so we didn't stay there. Now, he doesn't like the idea of non-guests in the pool. I guess I'll never get to BC at this rate...:(

I think the gist of this thread has been that there are non-guests in all the pools, but the one that actively polices the problem is SAB, so I think BC should then be *more* attractive to him.:cutie:

Next thing you know we will read about bed hoppers

"Would you mind if we crashed in your room for a few hours? I mean its not like your using the bed right now... we promise not to make noise....":lmao:

I've been an owner since 1997 - I have never been asked for ID. But we tend to go on off-peak times and that may have something to do with it. Crowds and those acting obnoxiously will probably be asked to leave.

There is not a certain age...if it was 1 am then yes they can say something to them but they do not really go off age.but wdw can enforce their own rules for underage kids and the pool.

Yes, there IS an age. It's 11, same age as virtually every other state in the union. You cannot leave a child under 11 unattended in the state of Florida. I wish they would enforce that more strictly. It's SHOCKING how many visitors to WDW think it's okay to let kids under 11 run around unattended. Whenever I see it at a resort I'm staying at, I report it to the front desk. For the child's sake!

I have only read (skimed) the first couple of the pages of this thread. Sorry if I missed something.

What about DVC members? I thought as a DVC member you were allowed to pool hop, isn’t it considered a “perk”. I am a DVC member and our first trip home will be in August. So no I have never pool hopped before. I can see why people wouldn’t like to pool hop because the idea of relaxing at the pool and then going to your room and getting ready for the rest of your day/night doesn’t seem to relaxing, and on the other hand I can see why pool hopping might be fun cause if you’re a regular going to the world and relaxing by the pool it can give you an idea of were you want to stay.

I defiantly DON’T condone people NOT staying on property going to any of the pools, NO WAY!!! That is just not right, its wrong in so many ways.

What happens as a DVC member, and your considered to be HOME, and you invite a guest to join you for the day, IS that allowed?

Yes DVC members can. No they can not Pool Hop to SAB and AKL and some black out rescrictions at all others at certain times.

A previous thread now buried further down discussed "inviting" someone to which many various answers and heated debate ensued.

Yes, DVC members are allowed to pool hop if they are staying on points at a DVC resort. If they are not staying at a DVC resort on points, they may not pool hop. The DVC stay on points is a part of the requirement. Your guests staying with you on your points reservation may be entitled to some of the DVC perks, like pool hopping, but they should be with you. If you have friends who are not staying with you on your points reservation, they are not entitled to any of your DVC perks. So they could not pool hop with you to another Disney pool.

DVC members may never pool hop to any of the YC/BC/BCV pools, the AKV/AKL pools or the BLT pool, even if one of these is their home resort. They are also not entitled to pool hop to the Swan and Dolphin pools since they are not operated by Disney. And pool hopping is blacked out during holiday periods, sometimes up to two weeks, often just the days before, the day of and the days after the holiday.

DVC members are supposed to show their Room ID that identifies them as a DVC member staying at a DVC resort, plus their Blue Member Card to the front desk of the resort and to the lifeguard. They may be asked to leave the pool area if the pool gets crowded.

Both the quarterly Disney Files magazine and the DVC member website talk about pool hopping.

The DVC pool hopping perk could disappear at any time.

Had a split stay last month, POP-CSR-BC & the only ID check was at SAB. In March we were at the Poly for a week, no ID check but we would totally support one! ID checks for every pool are fine w/ us.

Most states do not have a specified age (I know that TX doesn't), but we discussed fairly recently that Florida doesn't either.:confused3

thank you. I will be staying for 5 days at AKV for 5 days, the last two days I will have a friend stay with me and when I made the resi they are aware.

thanks again

Just wondering from DVC members:

Is the pool hopping privilege something that matters to you? If you exclude SAB and the pools at AKL/AKV, what pools are really worth the trouble? If you're staying at a DVC property on points, you already have a nice pool with a slide. What are the advantages, if any, to pool hopping? I always see this touted on the pool-hopping threads as a right DVC members have that no one else does. But, is it a right that any DVC member actually uses or thinks has value?

I'm not a DVC member, so just wondering. It's not something that would weigh in my decision to buy DVC or not.

We haven't pool hopped yet (DVC member), not sure if we will or not. But there are quite a few people who will hop to the Poly pool for a mid-day break from MK, and people often might do that on an off day. In fact, now that I posted that - we might even do that sometime - my kids would probably enjoy the clown pool at BWV. A "resort" day at SSR (my home resort) with the pool and community hall would also be a nice way to spend a day.

So I think it's a neat perk, but certainly not something that would impact whether I bought DVC or not.

My family has never used our "pool-hopping privilege" yet. We tend to stay at BCV & AKV and we love those pools. We always have our own vehicle at WDW, yet pool hopping would still seem like a lot of trouble to pack up & go somewhere else.

However, we check in at BCV this weekend (see my ticker below )& have some DVC friends that will be staying at the Poly for two nites before they move over to BCV. We may pool hop over to the Poly while they're there just to see what all the fuss is about. I doubt it though.

**Btw, the pool-hopping privilege had no influence on our decision to buy into DVC.

It depends on what we have planned for our stay, how many parks days, and where we're staying. We had APs this time and we stayed at BCV and Kidani so no pool hopping . When we're using our NE tickets and have a lot of down time, if staying at SSR, poolhopping to OKW/POR is easy since it's just a boat ride away. When BLT opens, poolhopping to Poly/GF should be easy too but I won't go out of my way to poolhop. It's a perk, not a deal breaker.
