Don't forget to factor in the transportation factor - I couldn't stand going offsite with a car or a shuttle - I love the Disney transportation - it is just so convenient.areno79 said:The thing I have the most problem with is that for $99 a night onsite I'm staying at basically an upgraded motel 6. For $99 offsite I can stay at a much nicer hotel, heck, I could even get a suite for that price!
Thats the thing - people ARE paying the rack rates, and the rooms ARE full, much fuller than last year.If the rack rates are so ridiculously high that most people can't/won't pay them, and dicount rates are such a bargain that they clog up phone lines and sell out like a Rolling Stones concert, then why doesn't Disney just find a rate in the middle that will be profitable for them and keep the rooms full?
Just remember, even though there are plenty of people on these boards, when it comes to the amount of people that are booking Disney rooms, we are still in the minority. I bet only 5-10% of all Disney travelers have even heard of a 'discount' code. I mention it to friends who go to Disney every year, even the AAA discounts, and they look at me like I am crazy - AAA discount? What are you talking about?
I was talking to a co-worker who goes to Disney once a year, and I happened to tell him that I stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge on my last trip in October - he said "Animal Kingdom Lodge? What is that? How do you find out about these things?" LOL
