General Codes watch?

The thing I have the most problem with is that for $99 a night onsite I'm staying at basically an upgraded motel 6. For $99 offsite I can stay at a much nicer hotel, heck, I could even get a suite for that price!
Don't forget to factor in the transportation factor - I couldn't stand going offsite with a car or a shuttle - I love the Disney transportation - it is just so convenient.

If the rack rates are so ridiculously high that most people can't/won't pay them, and dicount rates are such a bargain that they clog up phone lines and sell out like a Rolling Stones concert, then why doesn't Disney just find a rate in the middle that will be profitable for them and keep the rooms full?
Thats the thing - people ARE paying the rack rates, and the rooms ARE full, much fuller than last year.

Just remember, even though there are plenty of people on these boards, when it comes to the amount of people that are booking Disney rooms, we are still in the minority. I bet only 5-10% of all Disney travelers have even heard of a 'discount' code. I mention it to friends who go to Disney every year, even the AAA discounts, and they look at me like I am crazy - AAA discount? What are you talking about?

I was talking to a co-worker who goes to Disney once a year, and I happened to tell him that I stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge on my last trip in October - he said "Animal Kingdom Lodge? What is that? How do you find out about these things?" LOL

You're right, the Disney transportation is an added bonus, if you don't have a car or don't want to drive. We always drive and go offsite to eat and shop anyway, so it's not that much of a problem. We'll also be driving from Pop to some of the parks on our upcoming trip, because in some cases it's actually faster than using the Disney buses :)
I wouldn't even consider staying offsite if I didn't have my own car! :rotfl:

We're staying offiste for the first time in forever! Got a grat timeshare tryout deal of $249 for five days/four nights. It will be strange to be offsite, but I'm too stubborn to pay AAA rates, and too spoiled to sleep in a double bed instead of a queen or king. I think Disney is making a mistake by not offering better rates by now. We were planning (hoping to stay onsite for the last two nights of our trip, but it looks like we'll be at the Marriott Grand Vista for the week. I'm sure we'll eat offsite more as well.

I don't understand this. What rooms are full? Other than during spring break? I've changed my ressies all over the place and not once was I told they didnt' have anything. Oh, they didn't always have AP rates, or AAA rates, but for rack rate, there seem to be plenty of rooms..or at least for three rooms like we need. One of our traveler's called SoG today, to see how POR is doing for our week (now it's May 17 - 24) and SoG have plenty left yet, according to the gal who answered the phone. Remember, Disney has some rooms set aside for travel agents, AP rates, FL rates, SoG people, AAA rates. So while the "code" area you are looking for may be booked, it doesn't mean by a long shot that the whole place is filled or filling up. Rack rate is usually always available, at least from the mod and up.

Any news on codes today?? Just keeping my hopes up!!! :cool1:

someone call but don't just ask if they are out...ask if they will ever come out (along w/ disney visa)

I just called. Not out today. The CM I talked to said that he was sure that they would come out, but "He had no idea when."

No new discounts as of this morning. She said she didn't think there would be general public codes due to the popularity of MYW tickets but I don't think she really knows.

Liz, Isn't that funny. We called at the exact same time and got two different answers.

Its possible to call 10 different CM's and get 10 different answers - they aren't told until the last minute - sometimes not even then! Some of them don't find out until we call and tell them about the codes!

That's great!!! Thanks for the smile this morning!! Good ole' CRO! :flower:

LOL, I thought that was really it! I was just going to call! I think Im going to give up too!

*** is a true, valid code . . . but its one you need a PIN for. Many people have used it though (with a PIN).

LauraAnn630 I guess this isnt true?

Here is the message that has just been posted:

I saw posted on the budget board that there is a new room only code out- ***- that is good until July 4--is that what yall are looking for??

Is this it????

This is an actual code, however, it is an email/postcard code that NEEDS a pin #. Apparently someone received this code on an email and thought it was a public code and poisted it on the budget board.

It is useless without a pin #. I know this to be true because YEs I did try it and the CM said it was a valid code but I absolurely needed a pin # for him to apply it. Once again, I am having No luck with codes.. :sad2: :sad2:

Right. The popularity of MYW tickets. Tell me, is there anybody who's that wildly excited about MYW tickets, besides the people who sell them?

Even if the tickets are all the rage.... how does that affect room prices/codes?

Aren't they two different things or are they trying to say because the ticket setup is seen as the 2nd coming, that people are booking rooms at rack rate because they are so giddy and happy about the tickets?

I'm one of those newbies who did get excited by the MYW package--I bought a 9 day PH pass with Dining. And I paid rack rate for CR. I still feel I got a reasonable deal on the whole WDW trip--I'm hoping it evens out in the end. I'm one of those people who get tired of the challenge of "How much can I save" and eventually surrender to the whole code mania. I'm going to enjoy the trip no matter what! :flower:

A package is for convience sake only. More bang they think for the buck. We bought packages when we first started going 10 years ago and paid big bucks. The travel agent booked our trips. Those 2 trips cost me more than I paid for 4 trips since just to break even. :sad2:
