We had hoped to arrive on Wed night for an upcoming trip, but flight choices have caused us to decide to come in early Thursday morning instead. I've already reserved the room starting Wed night and my points expire a couple weeks later so no point in canceling Wednesday night reservation to recover those points. It will at least be nice to have a room available immediately upon arrival. Do I need to do anything to let the resort know that I won't get there Wed night so they don't think I'm a no show and give the room away or anything like that? Just want to double check.

That's an interesting question. My first thought/question is will you do online check-in? If so, you'll know your room location at some point later that Wednesday, and have no need to go to the front desk - so they probably wouldn't even know if you didn't arrive until the next morning anyway. Even if you don't stay that Wednesday night, it would be nice to have a room available as soon as you get there.

Just notify MS to put a note on your reservation that you are arriving a day late. There won’t be any issues.

You can do it via Chat on the website.

If when you arrive the next day and for some reason the room is not immediately available i would demand my points back for the 1st night. I booked a room knowing I was getting in at 4am and they didn't get me a room until noon. They tried to tell me i checked in late. I didn't let them off the hook.

Definitely. That is why telling them ahead of time ensures there are no issues. It even says it in the home resort rules that you simply need to notify the, so no excuse your room was not already set for you.

Funny you should ask. This just happened to us.

We were supposed to arrive on Sept 18th. Last minute travel issues forced us to arrive on Sept 19th. I had completed the online check-in and requested room # sent to me.

While I knew I would not be there at 4PM on the 18th I checked my email often from 4PM but never received a notice that our room was ready. I found this very odd.

On Sunday, the 19th, our revised travel day I checked the My DisneyExperience app and still, no room number was given, and no email saying our room is ready. I just figured it was a glitch with the app.

So when we arrived at about 6pm on the 19th, and still no room number I had to go to the front desk upon arrival.

She couldn't find our reservation at first and then advised that it had been cancelled because we didn't check in.

I was NOT happy. This is/was a two-week vacation, I used my DVC points to make this reservation and I expected the room would be there whenever I arrived. The lady at the reservation desk was eventually able to get us a room but not a great way to start our vacation.

Our room is at the Beach Club, and I thought all the DVC rooms here have been updated with renovations but the one we are in is a bit tired, and has not been renovated. Maybe a room they have set aside for such problems?

Wow, these are unacceptable, nightmare scenarios. I have always called hotels to let them know if we will be late, because they give rooms away all the time. But dvc is not a hotel. It’s a timeshare, and, especially if you check in online, arrival time shouldn’t matter. I can tell you, however, that I personally do not have a lot of luck with Disney’s online check in. I have only received room assignments before arriving like 2 times. And we do not arrive early. I think over the last year or two dvc has just been a mess, run so poorly, that I think it is best to over communicate.

Just to clarify, I called and made the reservation because I wanted to talk to someone make sure I had a room ready as soon as I got there . I told them I was not arriving until ~ 4am on a Saturday even though I had the room booked for the week beginning on that Friday. They were insisting I checked in late and I had to press hard to get my points back. This was a trip from 2018, pre-covid.

They should have done more than give your points back. It doesn’t even matter when you checked in. If you had a reservation , they should have had a room reserved for you. The fact that you called was a courtesy for them. It’s ridiculous. Totally unprofessional.

I wasn’t implying you didn’t call. Just confirming that there was no excuse at all because it did appear you let them know.

I was told last year that they don’t release a room until night 2 is over if they have not gotten the required notification of a late arrival vs a no show.

So even based on that your room should have still been there.

Actually, the rules do state late arrivals require notifications. This owner followed them so the resort messed up.

But, as I just posted, I was told no shows are not determined until night 2 when no such notification is made.
