Everyone please check your Vent Dryer!!!

For the last few weeks John and I have been noticing our brand new clothes dryer was not working properly. Our dryer is in the laundry room in the lower level of our house. The vent to our dryer goes accross our entire laundry room and our recreation room. Total is about 25 feet wth the pipe running through our ceiling and enclosed in the inside wall of our laundry room. Even though in 36 years of living here...........I have always cleaned out the dryer in the vent.

The last two weekends we bought a brush and started to see if there was lint in the sheet metal pipe. This is not an easy task as it is 25 feet acroos and has two 90 degree angles coming off the dryer in the wall. We had been getting some lint out and thought that was it.

Saturday I washed clothes and the clothes were not dry after 2 hours. We went out to some charity function and started drying the clothes again Saturday night. In about 15 minutes, I came down stairs and told John I could smell something burning. The dryer was extremely hot!!! We shut it off for the night.

Sunday morning...John being very mechanically inclined.....took a wire to fish out any lint. He managed to go from the outside through the pipe in our ceiling and into the laundry room. He then attached a brush to it to pull out the lint. Well...................Out came 25 feet of the pipe into our back yard. The brush got stuck and the entire straight pie came out. There was at least 8 feet of solid lint in the pipe.
After several wholes in our laundry room wall and ceiling, we fianally managed to put the pipe on the 90 angles. All is well but a few more holes to patch in hte laundry room ceiling a walls.

Sooooo everyone please make sure your vent is clean!!! We were very fortunate that the house did not go up in smoke
!!!:worship: :worship:

Sounds like you had a

LINT MONSTER

in your dryer vent Cheryl....

Well.... sorry to post and run - but I been browsing the Pirate Zone (and posting there too!)

And now I really really gotta run.

Remember.... I AM Innocent.

PS.... over the weekend I recorded one Firefly, 4 Dr Who and 2 Torchwood PLUS one Adventure of Sarah Jane Adventures episode. However I've only had time to watch 3 episodes of this weekend haul!

opinions please ????

on our last cruises we gave the customary prices provided by DCL x 4. (and then some for those we found "magical")

I see on the calculator some tip 50% for kids -----does anyone do that on DCL or do you tip the full amount?

Also when it comes to the servers.....do you tip for your kids on the nights they are not dining????? (we did)

But since we are not expecting them to dine with us that much over the 15 nights, I'm wondering what to do. I dont want to be cheap

Just curious as to what everyone else does.

We tip the full amount suggested
If you take the $654 that the calculator suggests for 4 people on the 15nt cruise it comes to $43.40 per day. Which is pretty reasonable considering you are eating 3 meals a day plus someone cleaning your room twice a day.

As others noted your servers will also do breakfast and lunch duties in the dining room and buffets plus work any deck parties there may be

Oh Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Leave it, it wasn't correct, Just my sense of humor I have to edit it at times.

Not with me you don't -- I know how disappointing it is to come up with a "good one" and feel it is being wasted . . . so feel free if you want.

Would give me permission to fire back, anyway . . .:goodvibes

If you and others do not tip, they will go away, giving others a better service.

But, how are they will they know if we are tipping or not in advance in regards to the service we receive?

We had the same thing happen as the other posters. The Head Server only showed up the first and last night. We didn't tip him and he insisted that had to show up at 7am for breakfast on disembakation morning - as it was our only option. Our Server later mentioned that we had the option of going to the buffet whenever we wanted to - which is what we did.

Whoosh,,,slap.....:thumbsup2

Blame Laura she sarted it, now where is that picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head when you want it?

We drove to Dallas non stop. Worst trip ever.

That's what I would be afraid of -- we are just a little West of Dallas.

The furthest East we have driven (and it was a meandering trip so, we stoped plenty) was Louisville.

Whilst pre cruise tipping helps you to budget, this is why I am against it, and thats funny as us Brits cannot tip to save our lives!

I make up my mind and tend to 'charge' tips a day or so before the end of the cruise, I avoid the Q at Guest services at that time, and have made up my mind on everyones service by then.

Usually I charge the correct amount, rounded up to the next $10, then I add $notes in as an extra, up to what I feel they have gone above and beyond the call of service.

I have added $50, to some, in notes. and /or when I chopped the head server tip one year added his to my table servers. I didn't want to be seen as being tight, I was making a point.

The cruise tradition on last night/ last breakfast, does work on a little on the embarrassment factor, if you do not tip, or tip well on last dinner, you have to face the same people the next day, often the breakfast buffet is underplayed due to this. I personally do not have an issue with this, if there was poor service, I would be pleased to advise the HS where he/she fell down in my expectations.

We tip for the 5 of us no matter how many of us are at dinner. :) I know it adds up over 15 nts! LOL!

I agree...

What is sometimes forgotten, is whilst we see our servers every night, and consider we tip for that, they also could serve us at breakfast and lunch, in parrot cay or Lumière's, or even Topsiders, when we do not tip.

So even if we miss a night in the restaurants for Palo etc, or the kids go to the kids club, we should give the minimum of the suggested tip amount, unless unhappy with the service provided, and a good Head server, would have that knocked on its head by night two.

You should see your head server, every night even if its a 'hello' and 'everything ok', to give you the opportunity to say if there is something wrong, ask for birthdays or anniversary's, etc, They can help with the lobster and salad preparation, and if your meal service is behind help out.

I think this is a position where DCL is not consistent, some are 'lazy' and you should not tip them for bad or non existent service, but also reward correctly if they do help you with your requests.

If you and others do not tip, they will go away, giving others a better service.

Our head server on the 10nt in Sept '06 was fantastic!
He was very helpful -- even with a *non dining* issue. ;) He heard dh and I discussing booking one of the Med cruises...... he made a point of talking to us at dinner one night and recommended that we not do it at that time. He talked with us for quite a while --- he thought that our youngest would get really bored with most of the excursions. She would have! LOL!

Excursion talk....

17dd is planning on doing the Teen Excursions. She did the one in Nassau one year (power boat) and had a blast. She has done the one on CC a few times, also.

OK... SO I was mistaken...

... and I'm back here for another 10-15 minutes....

Our 'lady' head server in the Med was a credit to the position and went over and above and confirmed my expectations of the HS, were the correct ones.

For example she did the kids books, they had a book to complete each day on the ports and on Europe etc, and they could collect stamps and seals on this, she organized all of the finishing off on these on last night.
