Happy Morning, Everyone!

I'm taking time after going through my 374 e-mails to post. I need a break after all that work!

Debra -- I have been following FlyLady since February 2004. I really like getting the e-mails, and having a system. You can find everything you would ever want to know about her system at www.flylady.net. Right now she is promoting her Body Clutter system, and I'm finding it really helpful to get reminders and read testimonials throughout the day, it's great for keeping me on track. I have the calendar & stickers, timer, duster, perpetual calendar, etc. I can try to answer any questions you have about it. You might really like the holiday planner. I used it last year, and it made my holidays so much smoother! It really helped with organization, preparation, and not forgetting all those "little touches". Plus, there are pamper missions to help you feel good as you go along. It's a great time to join FlyLady, I hope you'll consider it.

Melissa -- Welcome! You will find this is a fantastic place for support as you work on your goals. And it's o.k. to not know what system you want to follow. It's also o.k. to figure it out as you go. I follow WW, but I've stopped attending meetings. Trying to do everything at once is overwhelming, so I recommend you really do try 3 things or so at first, and then add as you master them.

Tara -- Thanks for taking my challenge! I'm happy not to be in it alone. Since I know you're sending the candy away, too, it will make it easier. I would be so happy to be 145...and I'm going to get there, too! We are going to really focus through this season, and we are going to look fantastic, come Jan. 1!

Kathy -- I do admire your work ethic, but I can't believe you are working so many hours on the weekends! You have to give yourself permission to relax and rejuvenate, so you still have something to give back...o.k., lecture over. I am glad to see that you are cutting back, and I hope you were able to take those 4 hours and do something to pamper you!

Linda -- It is terrific to see more than a sentence from you, and I'm so glad you are feeling like you are able to write more! It really does go in cycles. Sometimes I do so well, and others I haven't been able to come up with more than a few words -- everything was so out of control, I didn't have any energy to report on all the progress I wasn't making. We're going to do this, one ounce, habit, and choice at a time!

Regina -- Congratulations again on the smaller jeans! There is nothing that makes you feel better than buying a smaller size.

Jen -- I'm so excited for you and your band! You are going to have a wonderful time!

Lisa and Nikki -- I hope all your little goblins and ghouls aren't so excited today that you can't teach them!

Haley, Kathy T., Jean, and everyone else -- hang in there, and keep smiling!

We are going to do a great job with this holiday. Remember, it's one night. If you get the candy out of your house tomorrow, you have almost an entire month before another "eating" holiday!

C'ya Real Soon!
Maria

Maria-A little late, but can I take part in the challenge thingy too...I want to challenge myself to go without burgers or fries! Starting today!! (Juices too...those are full of sugar and empty POINTS!)

Debra-stay around! I need to lose my last four! We can be mentors!!!! Yay mentors!!

Melissa-Welcome and great goals!!!

You go ladies! :grouphug: After baby #6 in March I weighed in at 204 :earseek: but just this morning finally made it down to 151   Still short of my goal (137) but headed the right direction! I WILL be there by January 1...unless I get carried away at the Sushi place in Epcot! If any of you want to know how I did it (no gimmicks, mostly hard work with a great software assist) PM me and I'll send a link.

Hey Shellebelle! CONGRATS to ya!!! YAHOO!!! You're about to sail right into the 140's!! Just because we're the 150's club doesn't mean we wouldn't love having a loser like you hanging around! :) And congrats on baby #6!! I hope you're getting some much needed sleep by now.

Jen!!! GREAT GOALS GIRL!!! Love hearing you kicking up the exercise...I know with your get me there..gotta get here...schedule it's hard to make the time...great kudos for you! I know you'll be kickin the 170's goodbye soon!

Maria! I've managed to only have 2 small kit-kats..200 calories for the two of them and 2 slices of leftover pizza and my cereal this morning..that makes a total of 900 calories today so far...so for dinner I'm having a salad and NO more candy! That should keep me under the 1200 mark for today! How are you managing with the candy today? I'm getting up and walking tomorrow, too...my husband said he gets to stay home all this week so I'll get ALL my walking in! :) YAHOO!!!

I feel smaller already with all this thinking fit idea here and there! I've spent the last 2 hours flylady cleaning all my HOT SPOTS in the house..there are still quite a few corners that need to be tackled but I've cleaned off my kitchen counters and my to-do bins and am about to sweep and vacuum before I need to get the kiddoes dressed....I've got an AUBURN football player, Tinkerbell, and Ariel all ready to hit the doorbells! What's dressing up at your house?

Have a GREAT no binge HALLOWEEN night! :)
Tara

Linda - glad to see you back. Let's slide back into the 160's together. Life has a way of derailing our best efforts. Keep your chin up and use us as your support. We are here to help each other.

My shoulder is getting better. I have almost full motion back. I will find out next Tuesday when I can start with light weights to build the strength back up. The surgeon is being cautious so the tendon has an adequate chance to grap back to the bone. For once in my life, I am following doctor's orders.

Tara - I know the slow laid back lifestyle. I lived in Montana for 10 years. When we first moved there, it was a culture shock as to how laid back everyone was. That type of lifestyle would be a major culture shock now. I don't know what to do with myself when I take time off. I am trying to catch up after all the time I spent on Long Island. The major reason I only worked 16 hours was I needed to do laundry so I had clothes to wear to work this week.

Maria - have a great day and keep your motivation to eat healthy.

Jen - glad to see you back with your cheers. Enjoy you high school years and don't get bogged down with all the work and activities. Hope you get to your goal soon. You are so active the weight should start to come off again.

Tonight I did 50 min on the treadmill.  Tomorrow is a cross-training night. I will take workout clothes and go to the gym after PT. I would like to do 40 min on the arc-trainer for the cross training. Wednesday is a rest day.

Didn't get all my water in today. Will work on that tomorrow. I had 10 tootsie roll midgees from the Halloween candy bucket. ;) The rest of the stuff left is not something I will eat. Still have the Take-5 snack size bars saved for a reward.

WOW! Kathy, I can't imagine you in Montana! Okay, maybe on the roads with no speed limits heading to your next client...but Montaaaana? You'll have to share some of your Montana experiences! :) It is beautiful up in those parts...man, the walking I could get done there! AND WOOHOO on the Take5....great job on saving them for a reward. :cheer2:

I'm off for my early am walk...ended up having two more mini-chocolate bars last night...so I probably went over my 1200 calorie day by 200....not so bad considering it's Halloween! :)

Sticking to 1200 from here to Thanksgiving! :)

Tara

Morning Losers and HAPPY NOVEMBER!!!!

Did well except for lunch. One of the teachers brought in homemade peirogis and salads along with polish sausage........hmmmmmmmmmm give me that over candy bars any day of the week :teeth: :teeth: Definitely overindulged.......... :guilty:

Last night had a bowl of homemade chicken soup and a taffy apple - weird combination...........

But today is a NEW MONTH!!!!!!!! NEW MOTIVATION AND CHALLENGES!!! :Pinkbounc

We had almost no trick or treaters...........2 small groups :( Started raining about 5pm and never stopped.

More candy for my husband and daughter..........not for me....again if it was a nice mexican dip....................hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Everyone have a GREAT first day of the month........will really be watching what is going in my mouth.....are you????? :goodvibes :teeth:

Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda

Well Trick or Treat came and went. We had about 70 kids come. It was a fun night.

I confess, I ate LOTS of candy! But that was last night and today is a new day.

We have a box of candy left which I have hidden and will take to the Youth Group at our church in a few weeks for a snack (by then everyone's candy should be gone).

It sprinkled a little around 5:00, but by 6:00 the sky cleared and we had a nice night and it wasn't terribly cold either.

Now that is the first fall holiday. I must admit, I did really enjoy that chocolate! But that holiday is behind me and I have a little over 3 weeks before Thanksgiving (the next big hurdle for my diet). I hope to make these next 3 weeks really good so I can enjoy my Thanksgiving dinner without a care!

So come one girls! Let's kick it in. Make a commitment! For the next 3 weeks and 2 days really make it work for you. We can lose a lot of pounds during that time!

Debra

Hi Everyone!

My little Stitch scared the neighbors out of way too much candy, but just like Tara, I was pretty good. He brought home a Take 5 snack size bar, which I have never tried. Now, since I know Kathy loves these, I figured I should check it out. How delicious and satisfying! I had had a little box of Milk Duds before, but after the Take 5, I really felt like I had had my treat. Yummy!

I just finished up my apple and cheese snack for this afternoon. So far:

B: oatmeal w/raisins
L: soup, Ritz 100 bag, yogurt
S: apple & babybel
D: baked chicken, stuffing & peas
S: hot tea w/snack size Snickers w/almonds ( I saved it from last night!)

I let my ds pick out his pieces, and the rest is going away!

I plan to get on the treadmill when I get home. Just walking at this point, but I want to establish a pattern of going home and getting right on. Then I can start FlyLadying after.

We had over 100 kids. I made 110 treat bags, and they were all gone. It's because it was warm here (low 60s), and quite balmy out. We were out of candy by 7. I couldn't believe there were kids ringing our doorbell (at our dark house) at 8:30. My entire street was totally shut down by then.

Debra -- you have the best attitude for this season! That is one holiday that is behind us, and now we can focus on doing our best until Thanksgiving, by which time we won't want that much food anymore! Oh! I already made one better choice -- my ds's school sold pies for Thanksgiving as a fundraiser. Much as I wanted one of the rich cakes or pecan pie, I bought a cherry one for our dessert. It's not the best choice, but it is a better one! I really enjoy having a small piece of pie on Thanksgiving, and since we only bought one, It will last two meals, max. It won't be hanging around for me to pick at!

Linda -- I love your enthusiasm! You are ready to go! This month is going to be great, I can feel it!

Kathy -- You are doing such a great job with the exercise, and even with a recovery in progress! Pat yourself on the back, but don't strain that shoulder !

Tara -- Don't you feel better when you at least get the Hot Spots? I just feel happier coming home when I know I can fix anything in 15 minutes. Have you ever looked at FlyLady's holiday control journal? I love it! It made my holidays so much easier last year. Just having my cards addressed ahead of time was huge!

Shellebelle -- It sounds like you are doing great! What a fantastic example you are. Congratulations on your precious new angel! We would love to hear more about you and your success!

Jen -- What a great cheer! Thanks for motivating us.

O.k. so I had another hairbrained idea -- Since it is November, why don't we make it a point each day to post something we are grateful for in our weight loss efforts? It might spark something for someone else, you never know! I'll go first:

I'm grateful that I found this group. It has been more motivating and accepting for me than anything else I've ever tried -- and by that I mean I'm grateful for each and every one of you individually. You all bring something to the forum that motivates me, and it's different from each person, but it's all part of a whole that I need to hear. Thanks! :grouphug:

Kathy!!! Can't you tell a difference in your body and how the clothes fit since you've been really committed to your exercise? I bet your body is feeling strong and lean through all this! What is an arc trainer? Is it like the elliptical? I could never get the hang of the elliptical...the treadmill is about as sophisticated as my brain could handle :) I hope you enjoy that TAKE 5 when you have it! You deserve it for holding out this long! :) WAY TO GO!!!

Linda....ohhh mexican dip! that sounds sooo yummy! Must not think yummy...must think portion control! :teeth: We also didn't have many tricksters..I made 30 bags of candy (smart huh? if they're sealed I'm much more likely to talk myself out of it before trying to figure out those twist ties! ) Well, we had a total of 8 children come by...3 of which were my own so they don't count. I've figured out I can get rid of 12 bags at our Latin club on Thursday and may donate the remainder to the kids Awana class. I've not stuck to my one candy mini bar a day...today I've had a butterfinger mini and a payday mini...and hoping I can just say NO to anything tonight..thinking of dumping all the kids booty into a sealed container and tell them to yell at me if I have any. We just moved to a new neighborhood and I think since there are only 5 houses with trick-or-treater aged children they 20 houses we went to dumped a tank load into my kids bags. AND GOOD STUFF TOO...whole candy bars!!! What's up with that???? Luckily I don't like milky ways...okay too much blabber about candy..I need to just make it "disappear" :earboy2: And not in my belly!

Debra...I'm really liking the 1200 calorie a day limit...just reminding myself of calories helps me stay good. So far today I've had my bowl of cheerios with skim milk, an egg sandwich, one serving of pringles (should have skipped it), one mini butterfinger and one mini payday...I'm planning on a baked potato for dinner. It's working!

Maria!!! I'll BITE!! I am sooo thankful for this group...what a blessing to come to when I feel weak! To add to that, I'm thankful that I have more energy and feel stronger through the changes I've made the past 2 years at WISH...the eating/exercise/weight loss has really made me feel good about losing and not feel like it's a deprivation. You guys make losing FUN!!!!

I'm off to scrapbook and take some time to myself while the kids have a playdate. AND NO SNACKING FOR MUA! :)

Tara

I only have a quick second to post but I love Maria's idea and I have a wonderful one for today.

I am grateful that today when I got on the scale at the Dr.' office I was 2lbs less than my scale at home :rotfl: Not sure which one is right but I choose to go with the Dr.

I'll try to post more tomorrow. Woo-Hoo for those of us with NO leftover halloween candy. :cool1:

That really is what it all boils down to, isn't it. There can be all kinds of new fad diets, but bottom line it is calories in versus calories burned. I read this past week that the Government recommends the average woman to have 1600 calories a day. WHAT! I thought it was more like 2000! No wonder I gained so much weight. I don't think a day went by (before) that I didn't eat over 1600 calories. I was no happy with that article  . But by sticking to 1200 calories a day I guess that means we are burning and extra 400 calories of fat a day plus if we exercise it will be even more.

I had some candy today too. I just love chocolate so much, but I am trying to keep to the 1200 calories (which includes the chocolate).

I am having lunch with a friend tomorrow, but we go to Panera Bread and I always get the vegetarian soup and I take a baggie to put the bread in (bring it home to DH), so it really isn't bad at all (only 90 calories in a serving according to their website! One of the very few places I can go out to 'eat' and not worry at all about going over my calories).

Have a good evening everyone!
Debra

I'm not in the right frame of mind to be posting a lot of info right now. TOM is here, Halloween candy all over the place (last year we almost ran out-this year we had 5 bags left over????), Two sick kids all weekend long with little sleep, plus I agreed to speak to the intro class at my alma mater (sp?) tomorrow - so I'm nervously munching the day away... Not good

I'm hoping all will come back into balance in a day or two.

If you remember, this started with a bet that I could loose 30 lbs by Feb. to go to WDW in May. Well, it looks like either way, we're going in May :cheer2: :bounce: :jumping3: :thewave: :jumping3: :bounce: :cheer2:

So now (seems how I've essentially lost nothing in the last month), I have to go ahead and loose for me. Wish me luck.

Keep loosing, everyone.

KathyT

PS- Welcome, Melissa!

I got the results back from my blood work, and everything came back fine. I have also not had a headache since last Weds.

I have had too much candy today, so I will get back on program tomorrow. Today has been an off day, I had a dentist appt. this morning so I felt like I was running behind all day.

Welcome Melissa- You have found the right place for support, this is a great group to get support, and to vent when things aren't going right.

Regina

Today was a stressful day. I felt like eating all morning but managed to stay in my office and away from the candy jar. I felt exhausted when I arrived at work this morning and wondered if a day off would actually make me more productive. I managed to work through my negative thoughts. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Tara - we lived in Missoula. Montana is a huge state and we found it took about 4 hours to get anywhere. Missoula was near the Idaho boarder so we weren't too far from Spokane WA. We were about 4 hours from Glacier, and 5 hours from Yellowstone. The weater out there was great, no or very low humidity. The hardest thing to get used to was there were no colors in the fall. Most of the trees out there are pines.

The no speed limit is a fallacy. The limit while we lived there was 65. You didn't really get speeding tickets during the day time. You were issued $5 conservation tickets. They used the theory you were wasting a natural rewource. If you got beligerent with the officer, they would write a real ticket. After dark, there were no excuses.

I don't see my clothes fitting much different yet. A friend tells me they are now too baggy through the butt. I want them to become loser around the waist. I need to start doing crunches and ball exercises again.

KathyT - you have to want to lose the weight for yourself. You are changing your lifestyle to become a healthier you. Don't try to impress anyone. You can do this. We are here to support and encourage you. Don't beat yourself up, tomorrow is a new day and a new beginning.

Maria - can the Take 5 bars become addicting? I like to put them into the frig so they are more solid when I eat them. It makes them crunchier.

Linda - did you manage a losing day? Keep the positive thoughts and post often. We are here for you and want to join you on your excercise journey.

Tonight was a MFM crosstraining session. When it got to be almost 8 PM, I almost had myself talked out of doing any exercise. I got changed, grabed The Pretender and rode the stationary bike for 40 min. I had never seen the show but thought it was good. Last year I watched Season 1 of 24. It was a good way to get 45 min of exercise in. Each episode made you want to watch the next. I only allowed myself to watch it while exercising.

Need to hit the sack as tomorrow is going to be another long day. I am hoping to take a day off this weekend. It depends how productine I am the rest of the week. Keep your fingers crossed. I am approaching the burn out stage.

Have a great healthy losing Wednesday.

Haley!!! LISTEN TO YOUR DOC!!! Isn't that GREAT!!! WOO HOO 2 pounds is BIG! :)

Debra....GREAT GIRL packing the bread....it would be soo hard for me to pass up! Bread is my friend! :) In the past I could eat 4 slices of Outback's rye bread...but now I stick to one piece and eat it slowly...oh I love bread.

KathyT !!! Hey, just think wouldn't it be GREAT to be done with those 30 pounds before May? You could have a few months to really settle into the loss and pick out some great outfits???? I really want 30-35 gone to be completely done with losing and focus on maintaining...so let's shoot for getting 5-7 pounds off this month! I'm with you all the way! :)

Regina!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: No headache for a week! YAHOO!!! I'll stick with you on the cutting down the chocolate...I had a stress moment yesterday and I'm so low on groceries that I had a baked potato (the size of two golfballs...weee weelittle) but no butter and just a little sour cream with cheddar...I was soo hungry so I had 2 more mini-butterfingers...I still think I stayed okay on calories but I know having 4 mini's = more than a whole! UGH! So today I'm focusing on veggies and going shopping for all that great fruit!! Citrus is going to be my friend this week!

Kathy...I'm still working through my negative thoughts..how do you kick it? I try to pray them away and usually that helps but sometimes my mind keeps dredging them up and then I seek chocolate. No good, I tell ya. I do think a good 2 day of no exercise is important when doing your training...all that cross-training requires some off days to help restore and build those new muscles. Hey, I'd take baggy seats for sure! :) I'm just the opposite...huge hips and smaller middle..although I still have a saggy middle, it's just easier to smush it into jeans than my hips. Let's give our bodies time to react to all this exercise and take off those inches. I can't wait to see pics of you at the marathon! :)

I did my walk this morning...and I have to say it really passes the time quicker with walking buddies....all the chit-chat makes me forget I'm walking. I highly recommend finding someone to keep you sticking to an exercise plan. It alone won't make me lose but it sure helps with the energy...oh and I've been taking a one a day vitamin that I got on sale at Costco and I'm amazed that I don't have that afternoon slump that I used to have! I guess now that I'm 38, and not getting all my veggies in that I really need those vitamins!

Going to go eat my cheerios! :)
Tara

Maybe it's hello and goodbye to the 150 club for me...this morning when I stepped on my scales it was 149

No, seriously, I love how supportive y'all are. And I still need some pixie dust to not blow it all when I go out to dinner with DH's company tonight!

I will NOT eat the dessert. I will NOT eat the dessert. I will NOT...okay, maybe just one bite. Or maybe I'll eat the dessert but nothing else... :rolleyes1

Oh Michelle! This is great! And you don't have to go once your leave the 150s. I was 137 at my last weigh in (in October) and am hoping to get down to 132 by the end of the year. I haven't been kicked out yet!

Way to go! :cheer2:  :cool1:

I bet you are going to LOVE that dinner tonight!

You could always have DH order a dessert and you can taste it. That is what I do. Actually I take 3 small bites (got that from the Weigh Down Diet book). I eat them very slowly, and enjoy them totally. It helps to have a DH who is willing to finish it off for me :goodvibes .

Have fun tonight! I will be home watching LOST! I hope it isn't a rerun again.

Debra

Thanks Debra! Maybe I'll get dessert in a to go box and let dd have it...I'd almost rather be watching tv because there's no temptation to endulge there.

Have a great evening!

Michelle

GOOD MORNING FELLOW LOSERS

Just stopping by quickly before starting work to wish everyone a healthy, losing day. Let's drink lots of water and eat healthy. Shoot for 30 min of exercise.

Will stop back in later after completing my 40 min of walking this evening.
