Wk of Mar 16 - WISH Walking/Running Club

...just sitting here drinking my chocolate milk and watching Nascar Raceday.

MIKE: Thanks for the explanation of the red dot M!!

I loved those Sharpie signs with different slogans during the Half.. I laughed at the Kamakazie helmet one!!:rotfl2:

Later......

Mel, You are MUCH braver then I am, but it looks cool

I am heading out later today to attempt the 4 mile on my training program.

The Minnie may be a real challenge. First I lost this week to a cold and Kansas. And then Tuesday I am leaving for a short vacation in Paris. (It's all Craig's fault, that's my story and I am sticking to it.) I have thought about taking my running gear, but I just checked the weather and let's not fool ourself, I am not runing in the cold and rain in Paris. (Staying in an apartment so no gym) SO that rules out next week. Luckily on my schedule next week was a light week so he will just have to see what I can pick up when I return. At least I keep up a good clip when I walk so I may have to just walk part of the Minnie!

And for those of you in Atlanta... Peachtree Apps in the Sports Section. Mine is filled out and will be dropped in the mail on the way to the trail later.

OPPS I just scanned yesterday's posts. Sorry if anyone was looking for me. As usual where I live as soon as it rains the Comcast internet goes out! LOL!

Panda & Tracy - the M dot is a red letter M with a red dot over it. It's the logo for the Ironman (IM) races. I have always wanted to do one of these races (of course it would help if I could get through the plain marathon distance first, without the swim and bike  ).
It a WISH of mine, so if I ever do get to finish one, that's going to be my tattoo!

Terri

I logged 6.14 miles in 58 minutes today. I was not able to help lead the clinic intermediates due to another engagement. Turn out was a bit smaller than last week.

Will post again this evening, when I have a chance to scan and post a "Tuit". I'll explain later.

Have a great day Wishers.

Erica - I'm a HUGE fan of those signs!! Heck, I forced Amy to take my picture with one of them :goodvibes: The ones I can remember are:

How do they get the deer to cross at those signs? (one of my favs!)

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is probably not for you.

Major league umpires are required to wear black underwear in case their pants rip

Why is the alphabet in that order?

A day without sunshine is like night.

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Why is abbreviation such a long word?

What do bald men put on their driver's license for hair color?

:rotfl: (k...enough of my freakish obesssion with the signs)

I completed my 10 miler today in a solid 1:24:44 (8:28 mpm). The bad weather of the last two days broke and left us with a beautiful Sunday with plenty of sunshine...so it was really nice to be out there. I just hope this will spread to the rest of you who have had such a crummy winter this year!!

Hope everyone has a good day :)

Tracy--thanks for the kind words about me getting out and running....

Unfortunately, I feel worse now than before I went out. Somewhere around mile 3.5 my left knee started acting up. The one I thought was just giving phantom pains last Wednesday. Well around 4.5 miles the pain was so bad my eyes were tearing up--walking was just going to take longer to get home so I plowed on through it. Ended up with 5.5 miles in 51minutes--but now I'm in some pretty bad pain:sad2: Hoping tomorrow will be better, and the knee is just a fluke thing. But it's pretty depressing on a first time back out to have such an experience. Ugh! Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

Kelly--Congrats to your DS!:cheer2: And glad your DD's arm is doing well. And you're doing so great with the running! WTG!

Scott--thanks for all the sign reminders. I too, loved the signs. It's amazing how much funnier you think they are after running 20 miles, though!;)

Okay, gonna go ice the knee and drown my sorrows in some Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream!

Stephanie, OUCH! Hope the knee gets better.

Scott, It is beautiful here today. I went out and did four miles (four very slow miles, but I did them.)

Jeff, I am fueling my recovery with Thin Mints!!! Yes, I had to make TWO trips to the local Grocery. Yesterday the girls were out of Thin Mints...:scared1: So I bought two other boxes. Today I got three thin mints that are safely in the freezer, but that means I really HAVE to eat the box left from last year's sale.:rotfl:

Stephanie: Sorry to hear about your knee, not fun. I remember twisting an ankle during a training walk and I was at about mile 4.5 and was doing a 9 mile session. I cried a bit and just kept going, it felt better as I went, but I'm not sure what I would've done had it hurt the entire time. Glad you could make it through so you could get home. I hope things get better!:) Still icing a bit my shins from yesterday.

--thanks for all the Sharpie sign reminders. Now that I see some of them I remember them. haha

Thanks for the sign reminder Scott! :goodvibes I almost posted that picture of you...but decided I shouldn't do it without your permission LOL! BTW....holy fast batman....that was a smokin' time for your 10 miler. :worship:

Carol A..glad to hear you're safe. I *think* all of our Atlanta folks have checked in. Jen in GA....did you have bad weather too yesterday???

Stephanie...OH NO...not knee pain!!! :sad2: Just take it easy...use the Penguin's philosophy....rest it for 3 days....if it still hurts time to get it checked out. I'm so sorry to hear you had a tough run.

Kelly....CONGRATS to your DS! And sending more PD for your DD!!! :goodvibes My DD10 is double casted right now (both arms)...so I know how tough it is for them! Great run btw!!!

Aloha Jeff....NICE run :). WTG!

As for me....had a few good days of training! Yesterday I taught a class and went for a nice 5 Mile walk :). The weather was sooo beautiful for a change. Today was my scheduled 8 miler. Unfortunately I woke up to snow and rain (yuck!) and wind (double YUCK!). So I waited a few hours then just headed out to the trail...under the assumption that I'd be cold and wet regardless :(. Anyway...I did manage my 8 miler...tried to run easy and follow the Chi Running principles. I finished in 1:18..not too bad for me but definitely not exactly where I want my pace to be in 8 weeks at the Minnie ;). I'm really hoping the speed work and hill repeats I've been doing are going to increase my pace one of these days...I appear to be in a rut...although there's nothing wrong with consistency right?!. :confused3

Have a great week everyone!

Mel: Love, love, love the tattoo! It's quite a testament to your accomplishments. I wish I were as brave.

Tracy: Congrats on your 5K and good luck with today's run.

Kristi: Have a great day celebrating & spending time with family.

Stephanie: Aww, I'm sorry about your run today. I hope icing your knee helps with the pain and I know the ice cream will help with the disappointment.

Shan: The Donald Tattoo sounds cool. A couple of weeks back there was the thread with the truck decal--sorry I don't remember more details. I think that would be a cool idea--Donald running with a medal in his hand.

Mike: Thanks for the link, as I'm a poor, unfortunate Garminless soul.... And I love the shake recipe, recovery or not!

Kelley: Wow--your transition to running is going really well, I think. Yay for the PR & the sore-but-not injured feeling. And 10 miles at a good pace, too! When's your upcoming 1/2 (I know I should know, but I've temporarily misplaced my memory.) And whoo hoo for all the great family news; from the sounds of it, DS will be accepted into NHS! :woohoo

CarolA: Good to hear that you're all right. Have a great time in Paris! You just gotta love Thin Mints, don't you?? Mmmm. :cloud9:

Aloha Jeff: Great run. Hopefully the clinic didn't lose too many folks.

Scott: It sounds like you had a wonderful run, and by that I'm referring to the weather as well as your pace (which is consistently speedy, IMO). *Sigh* Thanks for the sunny thoughts, as I'm sure its headed our way. In the meantime, I'm glad you got to enjoy the sunshine!

Amy: It sounds like it was a frustrating day because of the weather & pace. I'm sure that by the Minnie your hill & speed work will pay off, and your Chi Running techniques will make the increased speed seem easier than it would be otherwise. Other than your pace concerns, how did you feel about your run?

Erica: Here are the ones DOOD and I can remember, mostly the questions:

• What is the speed of dark?
• Why are the people who invest our money called brokers?
• Why do doctors call what they do practice?
• Why do they say things are out of whack? What’s whack?
• If Barbie is so popular, why do we have to buy her friends?

The only trivia ones we remember are:

• North Dakota has never had an earthquake. (We used to live there, so we remembered that one. One of the state's perks.)
• All the clocks to Pulp Fiction are set to 4:20. (I think maybe you and I saw this one together?)
• There are as many chickens on the earth as humans.
• The length of a stretched-out Slinky is 87 feet.

As for me: I overslept today & missed yoga, which was strange because I woke up feeling still tired after 12 hours of sleep. Even my XT was lethargic. Hopefully it has more to do with a grey, sprinkly/snowy day than anything else.

And today I dropped by one of our malls while waiting to pick DOOD up from the airport. Some of our local Girl Scouts were selling cookies, so I "bought" a few boxes but refused to take them (trying to become a Lean Meaner & I have no self control when it comes to GS cookies). They told me they would donate those boxes to a local nursing home. :woohoo: I gotta tell you, that felt almost as good as taking the cookies with me.

Deb :)....thanks for asking about how the run felt. Honestly...it felt pretty good for the most part. I was a little tired...had 3 runs and one longer walk in a row. So I did a total of 20 miles in 4 days...I think that had something to do with the tired legs  . Wow...didn't realize until I just typed that how much I'd done in 4 days. Yeah..the pace is disappointing...I just can't break the 9's on a regular basis...we all have our own pace goals and mine has been to start running consistently in the 8's. Somehow I think my body has other plans for me. "nuff about me...sorry to hear it was a drowsy day (could it have been those crazy miles you put in last week ;) ). I bet it's the weather tho :). I've heard thin mints are the cure for lethargy...thats my story and i'm sticking to it LOL!!!

Stacie...That Matt is such a good hubby! Tell him that I'm so proud of him...actually...I'll just tell him at the Minnie. He's soooo supportive of your running...it warms my heart! Congrats on the garmin.

Mel...you are such a cool chick! :thumbsup2 Congrats on the new tattoo!

Hi WISH Team!

Mel, that is one cool Tatoo! Great idea.

Debra, good idea about buying GS cookies and sending them elsewhere.

Stephanie, I do WISH that your knee is ok.

CarolA, Paris, that is great! I WISH I could speak the language. I'd love to spend time there. I was there once, but it is not easy when one does not speak French. It sounds like you could walk your event with no problem so taking the time to walk around Paris sounds like a good idea to me.

Jeff, hope that your clinic attendance picks up next week.

Sorry to all the rest I've missed. I don't do as well as I'd like getting to everyone.

I spent my first hour on TM yesterday. The thing is that I did an hour at almost 15 min pace! I think I might be good for Minnie at this rate. DH went to Buffalo, NY last week and one of the guys he was with had a serious cold turned into pneumonia. Guess what, DH is sick today. Looks like it is in the house. I've been sheltered from what's going on out there b/c I'm in the house since last month. I sure do hope DH gets over it soon and he keeps it to his side of the bed.

PS--I have a link in my siggie to the threrd Recipes for Runners on the go that we had going here a while back. If you've got any recipes that you can add please do so. I think we could all benefit by it and the link is in a location that will not get lost. (You've just got to know to go there.)

Mel - WOW! I'm way too much of a wimp, but that's amazing!

Kelley - Your switch from walking to running is great. I'd kill for that pace right now! And boast all you want - those are great accomplishments and DS should be proud, and so should you.

Carol - Have fun in Paris! Hope the training gets back on track.

Stephanie - Sorry for the bad run. Please take it easy and rest that knee!

Amy - Your "rut" is still amazing!

Debra - I'm a firm believer that the body oversleeps when it's ready to catch up! Every now and then a lazy day is not a bad thing.

Stacie - Congratulations on the new Garmin. Your DH gets the award for best hubby!

Anne - Great job on the 6 miles!

Allie - Congrats on running to the post office. It's great to combine running with practical stuff!

Did a report on the race report thread, but PR'd my 5K yesterday - took 1:04 off my previous best time. Had not run at all for 3 weeks, then ran twice this past week for 3 miles each before Saturday's race.

I'm 2 chapters into Chi Running, and am doing serious thinking about what I'm doing. I'd been feeling really burned out and wasn't sure I even wanted to keep running; then felt great last week doing 3 miles at the time. I think I may take it easy for a few weeks and not try for long distances and not train for anything in particular and just enjoy running for while. Ever since I started thinking about NOT doing the half in 3 weeks I've felt really relaxed and happy, so I think maybe that's a good decision!

Jackie

Amy - You have full permission to post any pics of me...besides, that one actually wasn't so bad. I thought your run was very solid, especially considering the weather conditions along with 3 runs in 4 days. I bet that time sinks down over the next few weeks. We'll have a blast out there during the Minnie races....don't get too caught up in the times

Stephanie - Sorry to hear about that knee. You definitely need to rest it and I agree with Amy...take three days off and see how it reacts, then make a call to the Dr. if it still hurts. Be sure to RICE :) Best wishes on a quick recovery!

Carol - Slower miles = more time out there to enjoy the weather :goodvibes: Did you get that Peachtree application mailed off??

AlohaJeff - Nice run!! Why do I think that all runs would be nice if I lived in Hawaii :confused3

Shan
- Hows that ING taper coming along?? The Donald tat idea sounds cool...

Deb
- What a generous thing of you to do...buying those cookies for the troop and then having them donated. Karma will come back to you for that one :) I tend to believe that the more sleep I get, the more tired I am throughout the day...there is definitely a "sleep utopia" number of hours for each of us. Hope that weather turns for you soon :goodvibes:

Stacie
- Kudos to Matt!! 305...how awesome is that!! What a really great story to share...it's awesome to see his support of your running. (um...Amy...you already have a Garmin, right? :scared: )

To those I missed - best wishes for fun workouts and a solid week ahead!

GOOD EVENING TEAM

I wanted to jump on here yesterday but I got busy and .... :confused3 you know how that goes.

Going to catch up with everyone else later but wanted to let you know that my LR yesterday that was supposed to be 8 turned into 7.5 and was the first time since I started training again that I wondered if I would even finish :scared1:

Miraculously ended up with 7.4 mile in 74 minutes and it was HORRIBLE.

The good thing I can say is, especially to anyone out there who is training for the first time, the good WILL outweigh the bad. Last time around I would have been questioning my ability and discounting all the good runs I have had lately.

So if anyone out there is discouraged or had a completely HORRENDOUS run like I did, please believe me ... IT JUST HAPPENS!!

Gotta go.

BTW - Stephanie  sorry about your knee.
Mel:hug: Hope you are feeling better soon that's horrible.

Sorry for not catching up with everyone!!

Did anyone see the pics of the World Congress Center?!? I wonder where they'll move the ING Georgia Expo to now? :confused3

Yes, I did! :scared1: If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was a lovely fountain. :sad2: Do you know if MARTA is still running down in that area? I'm bringing the kids to the Aquarium for Spring Break, and was wondering if it was working ok? I called the Aquarium and they said that they were fine, no damage, but I don't want to drive down there in all that mess.

Carol - Have fun in Paris! :woohoo:

Mel - Cool Tattoo! I'm such a chicken that I'll just have to live with my white pasty skin. :rotfl2:

Jackie - Congrats on your PR! That is awesome! :thumbsup2 Remember you get to count the miles as double! Go Buzzies! :cheer2:

Debra - Great job on donating the GSC! :thumbsup2 I soooo could not have done that!

Thanks to everyone who congratulated me on my combining my running and my errands! :grouphug: It was nice to have an efficient day!

Yeah..Scott and I get a total kick out of those signs LOL! :thumbsup2

Since he doesn't mind...here's the pic just for fun.

Oh...and Deb...meant to say that donating the cookies was sooo sweet of you! :goodvibes

MARTA is fully functional downtown right now, including Peachtree Center (the stop you'd take if going to the aquarium)

With the aquarium exit being so close to 75/85, getting in and out of there is very simple and there are no roads closed where you would be traveling...so you can either drive or take MARTA without any holdups :goodvibes:

Just an update....I received communication tonight that they cancelled Monday and Tuesday meetings, but they plan on events being back to normal on Wednesday. Their problem is getting the weekend's exhibits out of there so new people can set up.

Looks like the ING Expo will go on as scheduled. I will definitely keep you updated if anything changes.
