Wk of Mar 16 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - :scared1: You scare me sometimes. Glad you are feeling better now adn the legs feel good!

You know, maybe if I'da had some Thin Mints before I started.... :lmao:

Carrie - I'm glad you're feeling better! :yay: Yay!

Oh how could I forgotten to have mentioned this....

One thing that helped revive me Saturday was a letter in the mail. Apparently without our even knowing it, we closed on BCV last Tuesday!

Scott, are you planning on taking Marta in for the ING? There are really no parking lot stops along the way from Marietta and I-75, is there? DH wants to drive down, but I think finding parking is gonna be a nightmare given the new start area and storm mess. Last year was a breeze, we found parking very easily, course we got there VERY EARLY.

Hi Shan :)

I'm lucky and have a handy dandy parking spot at my building adjacent to the Olympic Park :goodvibes:

But with that said, it stinks that it's almost more of a drive to find a MARTA station from the 75 side of things than it is to just go downtown. Personally, I'm just gonna drive down real early and try to avoid any road closures. There are TONS of garages around here now...between the aquarium, the arena, the dome and the local lots (which are all intact) I think it may be easier to find parking this year than when the start was at Underground :goodvibes:

Happy St Paddy's Day everyone!

Last week was crazy and this thread just got away from me. Going to try to keep up this week.

Mel - that is one cool tattoo
Judy - congrats on BCV!

Congrats to everyone for work outs and staying with it, hope those who are injured/sick feel better real soon.

Just a quick update before I actually go fold the laundry...

Did my first 5 mile walk yesterday. Unfortunately on the TM due to weather and it was awfully slow. Started to wonder if I'll be able to pick up the pace in time for Minnie. That is actually worrying me more than anything else right now. Didn't feel overly tired after the work out yesterday and today no pain so doing ok on distance it's just the pace....

Hope everyone is having a great start to the week!

Ok, now I really am going to fold clothes....no really....watch me go....

MARTA loves those of us off 400!! I have it easy since I will just drive down to Northsprings and hop on. I took MARTA last year too and my only advice is to get to MARTA earlier than you think you will need to be there. They did not have the trains running nearly as smoothly as they do for the Peachtree so you have to wait much longer.

Also, I have never seen a longer line for porta potties even at the Peachtree. And since its a mass start, people won't let you ahead of them because of a low number like they do at the Peachtree, so either plan on not using them or plan on getting downtown way early.

I took MARTA last year and it took three trains before I got to the platform. Then we had to wait for those trains to empty before we could get off. I literally got of the train with enough time to dash to the start line and jump a barrier to begin running. I needed to potty but it even after the gun went off the lines were 30 & 40 people long.

Cecilia

Jackie, Congrats on the PR. Good for you getting out there to run for fun!

...Speaking of running, I had my best run ever on Friday. I ran 3 miles in 44:25! :cool1: Might not be too big of an accomplishment, but I just started running a few weeks ago and I normally average 20-ish minutes per mile. I was pretty happy about it and looked a little like this guy:  when I checked my time when I was done.
This is great news. Oh and YES it is a BIG accomplishment. They are all as we improve! Just be careful to not push too much too fast. Keep it a steady push.

Jeff, I like the Tuit good thing.

Bill, Oh XT with little ones. I'm sure Billy will keep you in shape. You will be certain to be fit now. Good luck now that Timmy is running too. Whee!

Cecilia, I'm glad you get to w/o w/DH. That is something I WISH we could do. Mostly if we do go, my DH is off doing his thing while I'm doing mine. I think he feels he can't keep up so he doesn't want to slow me. I keep telling him there are times I'd love to make it a together w/o, but not happening. We do a neat thing when I'm out on the trail putting in the steps though. During the week is for time and we start out then at the half point I'll call and let him know I'm turning around. I beat feet to him then do my cool down with him. I love that.

Judy, welcome to the neighborhood. Congratulations. Sorry about your not feeling well Saturday. WWDave put it best I can't improve on his comment. Glad that you got through safely.

nepats Bill, How are things going for you. I do WISH you are finding positive things happening as your goal is approaching.

WWDave, take it easy, we don't want you injured any more. You are supposed to be getting better.

I'm making it pretty good these days. I posted this on the Lean, Mean thread and will copy it here.

My good news: I've LOST 2 pounds last week. You know I'm at home and so worried about not doing enough and gaining. Things are going in the right direction for me. I've lost 7 pounds since surgery and I'm eating healthy. I'm recording everything on SP and doing my best to break up the things I eat into more times so I eat more frequently, just not more. It has been working so far. Here's WISHing I can keep going for 16 more pounds. I usually find I stall for those last 10 and have given up and start to add poundage. This time, right now, I think I'm connected to this whole thing. (insert hopeful looking smilie)

I also wonder if it has to do with the fact I'm not doing the same w/o intensity as pre surgery. I'll know as soon as I'm allowed to kick it in a notch or two when doc says ok.

I did TM today and continue on my journey.

Everyone, have fun training!

Struggled through 3 miles tonight. Did y'all know it's hot in FL? ;)

Thanks for all the kind words on the tattoo...DH got his tonight.

Arelys...wtg on your run! The tattoo is on the outside of my left ankle, just above the bone. I found out just before the full that I have two bones in that foot that are fused together so finishing the full meant a lot more than when I initially started training. How do the ones on your foot feel...seem like that would be a sensitive area?

WWDave...that sounds cool! We'll want pictures.

Lily...congrats on your wt loss and TM! Glad to hear you're doing so well.

Carrie...:wizard: for feeling better!

Judy...welcome home!

Kristi...we always knew you were rare!

Jen...really, don't do it unless you really want to. I won't hold you to anything said the full...I think we were delusional during the second half ;)

...I headed up the stairs and at the top had one of my famous white-outs. :faint: Charlie helped me to the reclining chair and covered me with two blankets and I was still shivering.

...intestinal fortitude I have developed.

OK Judy, I thought we covered this last year. You should not feel obligated to train to meet the EMT's. ;) Charlie might get a tad bit jealous there and from what I understand, you have the method down pat anyway.

Speaking of Charlie, also from what I have heard, if you want to get his attention I think all you need to do is get the foam roller out. From what you described, it seemed to be more than enough to get his attention. :lmao:

I don't know what a fortitude is but it sounds painful, I hope it passes quickly. :rotfl2:

Good one Bill. I wonder if passing a fortitude is like passing a kidney stone, or is it more like passing gas. I have heard that to much time with a foam roller will cause some unusual ills.

Since Kristi is in danger of becoming extinct we should have her sent to Disney World so she will be safe from harm. I hear that Aero Smith is playing at the Benefit Concert, "Save the Redheads from Extinction".

Kim and Mike are finally back from their cruise. They ran out of Disney Points in the Bahamas and had to float back on tubes. It's a long way to Canada by tube.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Hi Lynn!

Edited to add: You'll have to come up to the expo before hand anyway to get your race packet and would be a great trial run so you get familiar with locations and what not before the actual race day. MARTA fare is available for purchase at the expo as well :goodvibes:

Thanks for the info. We are planning to go down (or is it up) to the Expo on Friday, and will scope out the area at that time. Scott wants to just go early and drive, he likes the idea of having the car to store some dry clothes and shoes, but we will see what the parking garages will charge, or maybe scope out some possible street parking.

OK, my TM needs to be put to rest. With all the snow this year, it got a lot of miles. So at lunch DH and I are TM shopping. I need something for when I can't get outside and don't want to go to the gym (or can't because of the kids). So last night I did a walk fit yoga DVD. It is amazing how the stretching helped my tired legs feel better.

Mel - I do want to get it, I just need the courage (and the prodding from you and DH Paul). Because of time constraints, I may not get it until after Minnie tho. I can't wait to see yours! Oh and speaking of Minnie, it is snowing her again, I am not sure how I will handle the heat...:scared1:

Hey now....There's a concert for redheads???
I'm a redhead, I heard I was going to be extinct in 100years:sad2: (not sure that I will around for that.)

So I was talking to a workmate today. His wife did the Virginia Beach Marathon this past weekend. She ran it in 5 hrs and something... His Dad, who is 71 yrs old, walked it in something like 3.5 hrs!!! I just thought that was so encouraging and wanted to share.

I did my 40 min of XT last night. 20 min on the elliptical and 20 min on the bike...

All for now!

Take care everyone! Happy training!

Stacie

Amy: I just know you'll hit your pace goals--you've got a training program that you're working through, you're hitting those targets, and it'll all come together. And I know it's so much easier for someone on the outside to see it and remind us of our successes, too. Sometimes I get so disappointed/frustrated/whatever with my perceived lack of progress that DOOD has to remind me of how far I've come. I just want you to know I think you're doing great!!

Lily: Oh, I'm sorry DH is sick. I hope you don't get it, too, especially since you're getting back in the Minnie groove. Congrats on the continued improvement & on the 2 pound loss.

Jackie: I think you'll love Chi Running; it took me a while to get into the book, and it'll be a while before I get the hang of it--but I like it, I really like it! And I agree that maybe just spending some time running to run sounds like just the thing for you right now. Relaxed & happy is what you deserve to feel.

Scott: I'd like to find my sleep utopia! I agree with both you and Jackie--I both needed it & it's possible to sleep too much. I don't know about you, but I find that I have certain hours where my optimal sleep occurs--between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.--so it's less about how many hours I sleep than if I am asleep during that time (not as often as I'd like). Maybe I'm just strange. Strike that. I KNOW I'm strange.

Angie: Sorry about your run. I think you've filled your quota of horrendous runs for a while, as one is too many. Let the rest of us have our turns! :rotfl2:

Allie: Donating the GSC is more or less a way of acknowledging I can't limit myself to one serving at a time. I'm not sure I should be congratulated for my lack of willpower! :rotfl:

ArelysAdriana: On the contrary, I think every PB is to be celebrated! :dance3: I think it's just wonderful how energized you were.

Aloha Jeff: Thanks for the info on Operation Girl Scout Cookies Campaign. How are you enjoying the Chi Running DVD? And I remember the "round tuit" gags from my youth. I like how it's been harnessed for running encouragement.

Stacie: Yea for the XT. And that was an inspiring story...makes me want to be a walker! When's your next day out with the Garmin?

Bill: Yea for Timmy soon joining the ranks of runner in your family. Between him and Billy you may have years of rope-climbing XT in store.

Judy: Wow! You certainly demonstrated your fortitude. Very strong willed, you are. On the bright side, you got to watch cartoons with a (fruity, I presume) drink. :) And you earned those stronger legs, too. Those whiteouts, though, I hope you don't get too many of them. YAY for closing on BCV!

Jen: You go lightening, go! Now, run right up to your local tattoo parlor because you and Mel made more than a deal, you made a pact. I look forward to seeing the pictures soon, assuming you get yours in a G-rated place for this family-friendly site. (Consider this some of your much-needed prodding.)

Dave: I hope your stretching continues to help you recuperate, both your achilles & your groin muscles. Being more limber is always a good thing, right?

Carrie: I hope you're almost fully recovered by now. It's cool it that you gave Saturday's run a try, though.

Kristi: Too bad about your LR & the allergies. But, yeah, I have to agree that breathing ranks up there as an important activity. I hope your Great Bay rocks!

Liz: I'm sure you'll have the pace on race day. The TM is hard to train with, IMO.

Mel: Yay for Jeff's tattoo, too! I have to admit that I find anyone getting a tattoo impressive, because I'm a wimp. Too bad about our less-than-satisfactory 3 miler, though.

As for me: Yesterday was my first run post-C25K and so I increased my time by 10%. I don't know exactly what the factors in my favor were, but I had a great time and I felt energized all day long: post-run, post XT, post-stretching, and right on throughout the day & evening. Today has been a XT day and it felt good, too! I'm looking forward to the rest of the week...except for the predictions of non-stop rain & flooding conditions, that is!

I hope all of you have a great training day sometime this week, too! :)

Yes Debra more limber is good. I'm determined that this year will be a turning point in my athlete accomplishments.

I had a Judy moment today on the tready. I was alternating walking laps of 4.0 and 4.5 speed for a few miles. I decided to walk some laps at a 12 mpm pace so I bumped the speed up to 6.0. I was thinking dang 12 mpm is tough today, I must be tired. I went ahead and finished the lap then whe I was putting the speed back down I realized that 12 mpm is 5.0 speed. Oops.

Why is Texas flooding? We have some thunder storms headed here also. Can you get Ark directions on line?
