Wk of Feb 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just had to share this with you guys. Last night, while watching the super bowl, the power went off right after the Bears made their first touch down. The power went out all over the entire mountain and didn't come back on til after the game was over...talk about angry skiiers! :happytv:

Morning team. i'm a bit down today. My ankle pain taht I thought had subsided last week, came back yesterday afternoon. I was in tears talking to DH about it--thinking I had come this far just to be injured 4 weeks before the race.:sad2: I've been icing and resting--another rest day today. The pain is a dull ache around my achilles radiating into my heel. It doesn't hurt when I run, but a few hours after the run I start to feel the ache. we've got a 20 miler scheduled for this weekend, so i'm going to take it really easy this week to see if I can get out on Saturday. THanks for letting me whine!

Matt--awesome job this weekend!!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Hope everyone has a great monday!

Craig - I can't believe that *I* inspired you (or anyone for that matter)!

Matt - awesome job on both races!

Stephanie - hang in there & take care of that ankle!

I can't wait to hear about Cam & her penguin plunge!

Well I was all set to get my LR in this weekend. But.... I think I caught Kristi's crud from 1000 miles away :goodvibes I have barely had the energy to get off the sofa, much less do anything productive. I hope it goes away soon, I dont have time for this!!!

Kristi-man you are flying. Great job!:thumbsup2

Mel-congrats on meeting your goal, awesome job!:yay:

Cam-are you still thawing out?:beach:

Matt-great job on your mini-goofy (and to DW too!) :cheer2:

I havent had a chance to catch up with all the posts. Happy Monday team!

Good morning! I went outside and ran for my first time off the treadmill yesterday, and boy are my knees tired today! I did 2.5 miles with a lot more walking than I normally do on the treadmill-- I was shooting for 3/1, and after the first interval I was nowhere near that. We live in the mountains, and while I ran a relatively flat route, it was still more hilly than I'm used to-- plus the wind was against me no matter what direction I ran. I'm looking forward to 30 minutes on the exercise bike this afternoon-- that'll feel good on my knees! Have a great day, everyone!

Good Morning Team!!!

So I woke up for the second day in a row with -18 temp and -34 wind chill. School was cancelled today because it is just too darn cold!! I have lived with this weather my whole life, and still hate the cold. I love temps in the 70's!!!! So I am still a slug. I am not going out at lunch today. The treadmill is in our basement, and even tho it is heated, it is still way colder down there than it is upstairs. So call me a wimpy slacker!!!! I did swim 2 days last week while gone on my business trip!!!

MATT - AWESOME runs this weekend. Way to go.

Stephanie - I hope your ankle gets better. I have hip pain, that totally went away before WDW, and the came back. I know how frustrating it can be!! :grouphug:

Monte - I hope you had heat during the outage!!!

OK, I am back at work finally and have lots of stress to deal with. Ughhh is all I have for words this morning... oh, and I need some hot coffee!!!

Good Morning team!!!!!

sorry I just haven't caught up on all the posts, it was a rather busy weekend.

Hope you all have a great day.

Kim

I am going to start incorporating some strenght training into my program, I am not looking at building muscle just lots of toning exercises. Now I can't remember if when toning is it lighter weight, more reps. I think that is it but can't remember. Would you do more then 1 set or just go till you exhuast that muscle???

Any help greatly appreciated.

Oh BTW, DH went out to the running room and bought a good pair of running shoes so he is ready to go. Hope soon he will stop by to say HI.

Kim

Susan-- congrats on your new clippie. You're plenty young for this!

Minnie-- congrats on the offer:thumbsup2

Mel-- "Cha-chow":moped:

Kristi-- you get a "cha-chow", too!

Matt-- Awsome PR, Congrats. Yes you qualify for Goofy this weekend!

I finished out week 2 of HalH Int. I training with everything but one 3 miler. This weeks LR was 9 miles on the TM 1% avg pace 13:20. I replaced the missing 3 miler with 40 minutes on the recomb bike so I'll call it a full weeks training.

I got my new 205 last Wed. but we've gotten our first snow of the year and the temps are cold so I haven't tried it out yet.

Sunny

Just another drive-by for me to get subscribed to this week's thread.

Great job to all of y'all getting your workouts in!

I was a complete bum last week. Hoping to actually get back to it today. For real this time!

Greetings Team and Brrrrr! :cold:

I did 5 miles on the TM Saturday morning, and rather then be cranky about it (I hate LRs on the TM) I was grateful to have the TM, since the alternative was to run outside in not only sub-zero temps but ice and snow.

This morning I did 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% and it was hard. I think I am getting tired from the cold and schlepping around in seven layers of clothes for two hours every morning and an hour and a half every night after work. Barn chores are the hardest at this time of the year, but this is when they need you the most.

Oh and Cam, even though I said I didn't want to talk about it, after my 5 miles, Charlie went on the TM and did 13. Like it was nothing. See? What did I tell you. Totally annoying. He's really making me look bad. AND he did it in 1:57. Grrrrr. :rolleyes2

Jim - Nice try, but those pictures are from last summer. Right about now, there is no temperature registering on the thermometer. Whatever it is, it's DAMN COLD!:cold:

Jen - Hope you're feeling better today. I'm glad your back.:flower1: I got really sick on the plane coming back from WDW in Sept. I'm sure I caught a cold on the plane, because I had so many people coughing and hacking all around me. So when we went for the Half, I bulked up on AirBorne. Every time I get a cold it turns into bronchitis. I didn't get sick this time, so either it worked or I just dodged all the cold germs this time. Either way, I think from now on I'll do the AirBorne thing when I travel. Can't hurt.

Minnie - YAY! I'm so happy for you. I hope it's a fabulous job and you love it!

Carole - Thank you, but, umm, well, those pictures were my first mare, Logic. But thank you! :goodvibes

Dena - Congratulations! And how exciting! :yay: Maybe the baby is so active because he or she is a little runner!

Wait. Jackie - You peeled back my picture? Did you put it back? :guilty:

Lightning, I mean Mel - Holy Cow! You were so totally booking! :woohoo:

Matt - Wow, that's fabulous! :worship: I'm way impressed!

Bill - Thanks for asking. Logic now has a fever and I am leaving work early today to go meet the vet for bloodwork. :sad2: Sometimes I think it never ends...

Carrie
- I don't know that I will get to respond to the Minnie mails today but yes to the cruise. And thanks for arranging it!

Morning, up nice and early this morning to get by LR in. I do them Monday morning before work on the treadmill at work. 7 miles this morning @ 1% @ 10:31. Next week is 8 miles @ 10:12. So far this is week 4 of 12 and I have been able to keep up to the pacing on that is scheduled.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Cam - hope you thawed out!

Mel - congrats on the 5 mile split WTG!

Angie, Leana & Jill - welcome!!

Cecilia - Good Job on the 8 miles. Hope the foot is feeling better.

Kristi - congrats on breaking the hour barrier

Matt - great job on the back to back runs.

Stephanie - hope the ankle is feeling better.

Kim - It's better with light weights and lots of reps for toning or muscle endurance. I do 3 set of 25 to 30 with light weight.

Judy - way to go getting the run in even when you would rather not.

I'm sure I missed a few. Sorry.

So, maybe this is a silly question, but-- those of you who wear glasses, do you wear them when you run? I'm near-sighted, and pretty much wear my glasses constantly, but when I run they get sweat-splattered and sometimes bounce around, but I can see ahead of me, anyway.

Hi Abra Cat, I bought a pair of prescription sunglasses from Bolle. They have pop out lenses so I can switch them from sunglasses to clear lenses, etc. (I have 4 different lenses). They were not cheap, but I had to wear glasses when I ran too, and I ran into real trouble when I needed sunglasses. The Bolle ones are nice because the little rubber thingys on my ears and nose really adhere to you when your body heats up. They don't slip and bounce like my all the time glasses did.

Hi HockeyChick----Don't be exhausting those muscles unless you fancy not being able to brush your teeth for a week because you can't raise your arms....ask me how I know this. lol.
I use weights that just challenge me. If you use too heavy a weight you can't lift them well and are more likely to swing them rather than lift them. Do two sets of 12 and build up to three sets. And always have a day off between weight training. You need that for healing. I really enjoy my weight training and change up my routine every three weeks or so.

Mel – Awesome, awesome pace, sweetie! :woohoo: You rocked on that 5 mile split! :yay:
And thank you so much for thinking of me with that quote. I love it.

Yay, Angie & :welcome:

Kristi – great job on your 5 under 60! :yay: Man, I can’t wait until I can do that. Right now, I am working on doing 3.1 under 40!

Dena – great distance! And I believe dairy is important AND good for fuel or recovery. ;)

Matt – Congratulations to you and Cheryl on your awesome runs last weekend! :thumbsup2

Stephanie – please take care of your foot. You may want to consider not doing the 20 this week, to give it a chance to heal, but I’ll leave the giving of advice to the experts here. Sending pixiedust: to you! Also, if you haven’t tried aleve, you may find it helps. :goodvibes:

Judy - I'm sorry Logic is still not feeling well. Sending pixiedust: and :goodvibes: and prayers for her.

Thanks for asking about the polar bear plunge for Special Olympics. It was frighteningly cold. At the last minute, I could not force myself to go in beyond my knees. My feet hurt so badly, even before they got wet, that I just couldn’t stand the pain and still had to find my way back to our towel and dry warm clothes. We decided the weather conditions were too cold and windy for Andrew so we suggested that he not plunge. The biggest problem is that there are just too many spectators on the beach and they block your way from the water to something warm to stand on, and despite Andrew’s efforts, a lot of my clothes were covered in sand and water from spectators and plungers who went past my towel before I got back. I have decided not to do it again. So, if anyone here remembers next year and hears me even MENTION considering it, please talk me out of it! :sad2:

Oh, and the most disgusting thing happened last night . My entire toenail from my right big toe came off! Man, is that ugly! :scared: Actually, I think the toenail decided that after a marathon and the polar bear plunge, it was NOT sticking around to see what other torment I might subject it to. ;) So, that is 2 toenails down, and I still think I may lose the first two on the left foot, too. ICK!

Kim - Toning definitely means more reps with a lighter weight. I would aim for three sets with 12 - 15 reps in each. Pick something heavy enough so that you can feel as though the muscle has done some work. But be sure to use a weight that you can lift comfortably and keep you form throughout.

Good luck with the weight training!

:rotfl2: OMG, Cam - you had me bust out laughing here! :rotfl2:

Ok, I lied about doing my stretching & strengthening scheduled for today. My sister won me tix this morning to go see Pink perform in the Mix Lounge tonight in Boston. I am not a huge Pink fan or anything, but it should be fun. Shoot - free night out and Mom is watching Zack for us! :woohoo: I probably wouldn't care who was performing! ;)

So, I am off to get some sleep before we head out to Boston tonight!
Happy training, everyone!

Speaking of pink, I will pose this question for everyone. Yesterday when doing the laundry, I didn't wash a pink shirt with the rest of the lighter cloths knowing that with my luck everything would be pink afterwards. I was quickly corrected afterwards and told that it wouldn't have done anything to the cloths. So do pink cloths bleed and turn other things pink or not?

Although after mentioning that since I wasn't the expert and thus didn't need to the laundry again, I was laughed at and told I was wrong again. :lmao:

Bill

Well once again--day 2 of the thread and we have lots of amazing folks posting!!!

Hope everyone is doing well.

I had a brief fear that my running career would be in jeopardy post-baby.

I had what I thought was a plantar wart growing on what might be a future bunion. It was very very painful and the "wart" part resembled a wart exactly (including the black center). I have been attacking it like crazy (my feet ain't pretty so I have nothing to lose).

Today--I had had enough..the pressure pain was getting worse and worse and worse. It was time for dissection!!! Yep--you heard me...cutting into the sucker.

And you know what I found.....

I had a shard of glass embedded my foot. :scared1: No wonder it was so painful. It is now out and I can feel the running career returning.

We'll see how it does overnight and possibly follow up with the physician tomorrow. I called the OB and there was nothing of urgency that they were aware of, but they suggested having it checked just in case. Since Urgent care is typically booked--I was just going to give it overnight to see what it does.

I am just amazed that I had a piece of glass in my foot.
