Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning WISHers! Another overcast day today.....maybe another run outside for me! :cool1: Our temps are going up though for the weekend.....  I guess I will have to get up early again, before the temps go up! I will not be able to get 18 miles in on the treadmill (((It would be the end of me!!!)))). Facing 18 miles feels better to me now, since my 16 miler went pretty well last week. But, wow, it's a long time on my feet!

Nancy: I am glad you got your "Walking away the pounds". You will have a variety now, won't you?:woohoo: Pilates had me pretty sore this week, too. It was a great workout. I will probably miss pump too, since I will be heading to the CEC with Brenda today. :headache: The kids will like it though, and Brenda and I will just be able to visit.

Jeanneg: Now, if I only looked like a workout machine! :confused3 I read "Marathoning for Mortals" and I really liked it. My dh sent John Bingham a message for me, and he sent me a inspirational e-mail to encourage me in my marathon training. He is such a great guy!

My dh is a great support system. The last few LR's, he had everyone settled and lunch made for me when I got back home. He has really gotten on board with my training.....it wasn't always that way. When I first started running, he just thought I was nuts. But after my first 1/2 marathon, he really has 'gotten' it and supports me 100%.

With this marathon luming so close, I am getting really nervous. I just want to finish it, and enjoy it as much as I can. AND not die at the end and ruin our 'vacation'! I guess only time will tell!

Beth

jeanneg - I am guessing, but I think the one day tickets they would give you would be transferrable. They are probably similar, if not the same, as what they give the CMs at Christmastime. I used to use those for other people all the time back in the day. I will ask about that when i call though!

Well we're back from camping. We had a wonderful time and we couldn't have asked for better weather, it was perfect! We camped about 3 miles from the summit and our site was were 2 creeks merged together...it was alittle noisy at night, but I didn't mind at all. I loved it. We almost hiked to the summit, but it was a fourteenier and I know it was hard on my husband and a friend who came along, so we hiked up to 12.5 thousand feet, then headed back down. The forrest was full of animals from deer, elk, to big horned sheep, so we were able to view alot of wild life from camp. We didn't see any bears, but did see paw prints, in the mud, next to the creek! :scared1:

Jackie/Renee: dumb question, but is Smith Creek the one in Heritage? If so, I walk it all the time, but never noticed the name because I'm usually so zoned out.
That's it! Jackie - will your game be on Saturday or Sunday? Ours are mostly Sunday.

Today is a rest day for me. DS and I went to meet his teacher; she has a great reputation so I'm very excited! Tonight is parent's night at DD's high school (gulp!). I just refuse to believe that I'm old enough to have a kid in high school!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Greetings -

I did 20 minutes on the TM this morning. I don't remember our TM being so loud! Maybe the belt is going or something. I am also having trouble getting up when the alarm goes off at 4:15. That's what I get for sleeping in for six weeks. I have to work on getting to bed earlier I guess. Anyway, training went very well, but - and I can't believe I am saying this - it didn't feel like enough. :thumbsup2

Kristi - I think Christa DOES carry the Kitchen Sink with her on L/Rs. I've seen a picture.... I was wondering if the park ticket they give us for volunteering is just good for that day, or for a limited time, or does not expire. Anyone know? I won't need the ticket that week, so I'm wondering if I can save it for the Minnie/Princess/Whatever it's called now Weekend.

Heather and Kevin
- I'm so happy you have A/C! YAY! :dance3:

Jeanne - Isn't MFM the best?!! :goodvibes I get so pumped up when I read that book.

Cam? Howard??
:confused3

Morning Guys.

I'm having motivation issues myself right now. Our Drought continues, day after day of 100 degrees plus, horrible humidity. :scared1: When willm this end? I'm getting my steps in but the joy isn't there right now.

I'm wondering if I made the right decision to stay at the Swan instead of another Disney Resort for Oct.

We went ahead and got reservations for the Dolphin for the January trip also. We like the Epcot area but don't want to spend another $1000 plus for the Boardwalk. I stayed at the Boardwak for the January 06 trip and wasn't that impressed with it. The Coronada was a better experience than the Boardwalk. But the convience of being able to get around the world from Epcot area is awefully nice.

Have a great day WISH Friends.

Dave:hippie:

I got my run in.....outside! Even though the humidity was up, it was still nice to run outside. Time goes so much faster when outside!

I got 5 miles in today and will try for the same tomorrow.....

Beth

Although a life long Bruins fan, as an 20 year Connecticut resident, I feel compelled to say thanks for stealing the Whaler-canes. At least there is some joy when we read how much money the team loses in its new, profitable location. We don't blame you though, Jackie.

I must admit, I was very resistant to this sport called hockey when the Canes were forced upon us. I was raised to believe that college basketball was the only true spectator sport and could not understand why thousands of people would willingly sit in a cold arena and watch guys chase a puck with sticks. Then I went to a game last season... And even though we were truly rotten last season, we were the reigning Stanley Cup champs!

Jackie: sorry to hear about your daughter's exam....I thought all schools in raleigh ended the semester at the Christmas break since they start so early.

Good news! I talked to her teacher and principal at the open house tonight, and they're going to let her take it during the makeup period. I'm booking flights on Monday as soon as Southwest opens up the Sunday date!

Renee - The boys (U10) play on Saturday, DD's team (U17) plays on Sunday.

I'm supposed to be running now. Skipped the AM run by promising myself I'd run after the open house at DD's high school, but I'm here instead. My ankle is still a little sore. I'm hoping that one day off won't have any real negative effect on Saturday's run.

Jackie

Anyone have any tips for keeping up with this thread?????

I'm at a loss and I want to meet everybody but you guys talk too much.:lmao:

Lots of folks I don't know!

I'll introduce myself:

My name is Lisa! I have done 2 disney events. Was registered for the inaugeral (sp?) Disneyland half but was too sick with morning sickness and had to cancel my plans. That little joy arrived on his due date in March! He's been punctual ever since! I love being on the WISH group and though I have participated with Team in Training for the 2 seasons I did WDW, I liked hanging out with my WISH guys and gals better.:yay:

I'm doing Goofy b/c I am crazy!

And I want to get better at knowing who everyone is!

Now I am going to try this subscription thing again. It didn't work the last time I tried...but at least I can catch up with the thread that way. :)

Yeah!!! It worked! I got a message! Woohoo!:woohoo:
(sorry--i signed up for e-mail reminders so I can more easily keep up!)

Awesome job on your time!!! Keep up the good work!

Hey--is anyone doing strict bedtimes as training commences for our races?

I am committing to either a 9 or 9:30 bedtime with a 5am rise.

WWDave

Martha and I are also staying at the Swan for October's Tower of Terror. This allows us to walk to the start of the race and back from the Disney Studios after the post-race party. Other positives are the beds are the Westin's 'heavenly beds," which are correctly named, and for folks our age the Swan is much more an adult hotel in feel and noise level.

Actually I am staying at the Swan 2 weekends in a row. My profession's annual conference is in Orlando the week before TOT, so I'll get a double dose of the Swan. The loop around Crescent Lake, then out to the boat dock at the Disney Studios and back is 2.33 miles, so when I'm there for the conference I'll do a long run early Sunday morning.

Plus the Swan has really good rates for teachers and nurses, which I'm taking advantage of. I agree that the location of the EPCOT resorts is the best, and the Swan is a comfortable and quiet hotel, at a good price, at that location.

Craig, thank you. I feel much better about my choice of the Swan now. We always drive down from Ky and we like to spend the trips walking everywhere and Epcot area is the best place to base camp at.

Funny about the discounts, we qualify for everything they offer, I'm retired military, Erica is a nurse, I have a teaching certification, we are AAA members, Senior citizens, annual pass holders and we pay with a Disney credit card. To bad we can't combine everything.

We are forecast to reach a 102 degrees again today, oh goody. Someone please remind me that this will eventually end. I would love a nice 60 degree day to start my Goofy training.

Craig, you are not 200 years to late to be a pirate, the "YARC" is alive and well and you are there.

Off to face the heat and humidity now.

Good morning Everyone,

I just wanted to pop on and say hello. I have been so busy lately I haven't had the chance to keep up with the weekly training thread. I hope everyone is doing well. My training is going OK. I am at least finding time for that, although now that the LRs are in the double digits it does take a big chunk out of my day.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Beth---Glad you could do your 5 miles outside yesterday. It certainly was much more humid when I left work yesterday. It is suppose to be hot and humid all weekend.

Monte---Welcome back from vacation. Glad you had a good time.

Lisa-- I'm with you it is so hard to keep up with this thread some days. A new baby and you are doing Goofy. Impressive.

Judy--- Good job on your 20 minutes and working you way back into training after your surgery.

Kim--- Plus AHL games are so much cheaper. We used to have season tickets to the Hershey Bear games and saw them win the Calder Cup. That was one of those nights that you remember forever. Good job on your 7K.

Dave--- I had looked at the Swan for ToT, but since they don't participate in ME we decided not to make the reservation there. For Jan we are staying at BWV with our DVC points. It will be the first time we have stayed at any of the Boardwalk resorts.

Jackie---- Hope the ankle is feeling better.

Nancy

We have snow on the mountain peaks this morning. :headache:

Now wait just a minute--it's amazing that we live in the same country--being on totally different ends of the weather spectrum. We'll be in the triple digit again today!

My new job went well on Wed. Really easy--pretty much they are paying me to watch my own kids--as after 11, they were the only ones in the daycare. And then after the shift was over, I got 5 miles in. Did 5 miles again yesterday. One of the days should have been a 9 miler, but just couldn't fit it in with everything else I have going on. Tomorrow is an 18 miler!:scared: My parents are taking the kids tonight so DH and I can run it together. This weekend should really give me an idea if that sub-4 is in my immediate future. I really hope I can reach that goal at Akron, and then I can relax and enjoy Disney! Two weeks until my taper madness starts.

TGIF all! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Stephanie: I have 18 miles in store for me Sunday :scared: and I am already worried.....I hope it goes well! I will have to get up early to beat the heat (((sometimes that is harder than the run!)))

Today seems like a humid mess.....I was planning 6 miles outside tonight....we will have to see!

Nancy: Have a good dinner out tonight!

Beth

Good morning racing team -

I have no training to report as last night it got warm again so we turned on the fan, and my radio alarm wasn't turned up loud enough, so I didn't hear it. :headache: Nuts. Oh well, there's a great big beautiful tomorrow......and guess who's going to strap on her Garmin and AmphiPod and hit actual pavement?!?!?! :yay: :woohoo:

Lisa - I'm glad to see you back here. I'm not stalking you on the DCL forum, honest! :upsidedow You signed up for email messages? You're mailbox will never stop dinging! Hee hee. I HAVE got to get back to my normal bedtimes. I was just on six weeks R&R after foot surgery and I slept until 6:00am every day. Makes getting up at 4:15am now REALLY hard!

Kim - I forgot to tell you this funny story. When we were driving from Wellesley Island to Brockville we went on this exit ramp that was blasted thru some rock and I said "OMG it's a replica of Big Thunder Mountain!" because the rocks were the exact same color as BTMR. It was really pretty funny! We really loved it up there and already have plans for next August to do it again. This time though, instead of just stopping at Boldt Castle to show our passports, I'm going to go tour it while they are diving.

WWDave - If you could combine all those discounts for the Swan it would be great because they'd end up paying you to stay there! :thumbsup2

Hi Cindy! Stop in more often!

Monte! Do not say the "s" word yet! :scared:

Ok folks a new Dave emerged today.

I decided that the heat and humidity will not bother me anymore. It's summer in the South, it's gonna be hot, I'm an athlete, I'll deal with it.

It made a huge difference in my walk this morning. I breezed through the 4 miles with less precieved effort and a faster pace that any day this week. Amazing what you can do with a positive attitude.

Have a great day everyone.
