Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Uh oh. Will this be a kinder, gentler Dave  or an evil, dark-side Dave. :darth: Guess time will tell.

A combination of both probably. For sure a stronger tougher Dave. I'm not going to let the weather steal the joy from me anymore.

How's the back doing today wild man?

Dave:hippie:

Hello everyone!! So far, 3 days of posting this week! Woo-hoo! I'm so proud of myself!!!

When last I left you all, the plumber was supposed to install the toilet and the neighbor's trees were to come down. Unfortunately, the toilet was only 1/2 installed as the tank had a crack in it. And the trees have not come down yet. We got a new tank although we don't know if we'll be credited for the other one as someone from the company must inspect it first to make sure we didn't break it and blame on the delivery. The new tank was installed yesterday and, voila! we have flushage!!! I'm so happy! 2 months after the fact, I finally have a new toilet installed and it isn't leaking.

Trees are still not down.

Training news: I'm to week 2 of the Hal Higdon marathon training for novices. This weekend is 7 miles. We've had lovely autumn-like weather for a week but, alas, it's gone. We are back to hot, humid temps so I'll be running on the TM. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

WWDave/new Dave: we'll take you any way we can get you!!

Judy: sorry you didn't get the workout in this morning. But did it feel nice to sleep in a bit?

Beth: 18!?! Wow! Well, hydrate please and take it easy!

nucpharm29: glad to hear the new job is working out!

Kim: congrats on getting the 7K in!

Monica: SNOW!?! :scared1: That is still a 4-letter word. I hope it melts soon!

Lisa loves Pooh: if you figure out how to keep up with the thread, please pass it along. Since I don't watch my personal email accounts during the day, those alerts don't work for me. I just try to remember to get to the boards which, unfortunately, doesn't always work.

Talk to you all soon!

Now I do not know how this reminder thingy works. I come to check in on windwalker and there are 5 messages prior to that.

Lisa - I'm glad to see you back here. I'm not stalking you on the DCL forum, honest! :upsidedow You signed up for email messages? You're mailbox will never stop dinging! Hee hee. I HAVE got to get back to my normal bedtimes. I was just on six weeks R&R after foot surgery and I slept until 6:00am every day. Makes getting up at 4:15am now REALLY hard!

Honeibee: No problems! Stalk anytime.:rotfl:

Dave way to go!!! I am a big baby when it comes to humidity. I try to go early in the am when I WAS training. I think the better mentally prepared you are for it and the better you can manage the hydration, the better the run will be. They have this "cloth" that I saw at the running store. I am every bit skeptical about it though. Supposedly once you get it wet, it will stay cold. And when it dries, you just wet it again. A bit pricy to do a science experiment though. Have you tried putting ice in a bandana and wearing it around your neck?

Monte: That just ain't right! August does not mean snow--unless maybe you are in South America right now.

I'm down 8 pounds on my modified 2nd phase of South Beach--aka the "don't eat crap" diet.:rotfl: My thighs and butt feel lighter already.:rolleyes1

Training starts Monday--I'm debating since the hubby will be home (well except he is out of town on Monday  ) that I can go ahead and take my training outside. Not sure how I will get the slacker to run on Monday since he'll use the excuse that he has to leave for the airport at 4am. (suck it up, man! )

I might have to do the treadmill with my girls creatively entertaining the 5 month old for 35 minutes.

I'm so happy! ... I finally have a new toilet installed and it isn't leaking.

Isn't home ownership (or home leasing from a bank) grand. I'm willing to bet that, say 20 years ago just to pick a number, your dreams of joy and happiness didn't include a new toilet (at least I hope not for your sake). Way to go on the training too.

Ok folks a new Dave emerged today.

I decided that the heat and humidity will not bother me anymore. It's summer in the South, it's gonna be hot, I'm an athlete, I'll deal with it.

It made a huge difference in my walk this morning. I breezed through the 4 miles with less precieved effort and a faster pace that any day this week. Amazing what you can do with a positive attitude.

Have a great day everyone.

Dave:hippie:

Dave--My thought exactly! I, too, was absolutely sick of this hot, humid weather. I started a run the other day and got about 20 feet into it when I decided that I was miserable and couldn't wait to get home so I could vent to you guys about how much running sucks and how we should all hang up our shoes for good. But then I shuffled my way through the 4-miler and you know what--by the time I got home, I was on a semi-runner's high and didn't want the run to end.

It's a crazy, strange mental game--this marathoning thing. I guess if it doesn't make us that much stronger mentally, it'll make us mean in the process. ;)

Hope everyone is having a great week and good luck to the racers and with all the LW/LRs this weekend.

Steve

Hey you guys, I went to the post office at lunchtime today and there was a lady in her mid-thirties, maybe, getting in her car. She had on shorts and I could see her leg. It was badly deformed and she was wearing a brace and using a cane.

I could not help but think how lucky and blessed I am. :goodvibes

I'm not going to complain about having to get up early to train, or about the heat or cold or anything anymore. I'm blessed to be able to walk, run, jog..whatever you want to call it.

Stephanieand Beth - What are you guys training for? Something very close to be doing 18.

WWDave - I totally understand the lack of motivation b/c of the heat. My times are suffering greatly b/c it is so stink'n HOT! We have also been 100+ the last few weeks...hopefully it will start cooling down soon.

Did 15ish today. It was HOT! But I felt good the whole time. I have been running my LRs with Bree. I do some by myself, catch up with her, run together, add on some mileage, catch back up, run together, add on......normally run around an 8/8:30 mile by myself and 10/11 MPM with her.
Will bike tomorrow...planning for 70. Doing a 60 mile supported ride and adding on before it starts. May take the old camra along to get some pictures.

WTG on the run. But wow---70 mile ride.:worship:

Christa--DH and I are running the Akron Marathon Sept. 29th. It's coming up fast! Great job on your run and wow on the bike rides!

DaveWW--WTG on the "new" you! Glad you had a nice workout. I've been dreading our run tomorrow, but no matter how much I gripe the weather isn't gonna change--so I better change my attitude. We're gonna get up early and get-r done.

Steve--great to hear from you--sorry to hear that the heat is affecting you as well. Hope the training for Columbus is going well!

Christa: I am running the Toronto Waterfront marathon on September 30th....a Penguin event! It will be here before you know it!

Beth

How's the back doing today wild man?

After this morning's subterranean-stonker (if you could call it that good) of 1.5 miles at about a 23:00 minute per mile pace, the back has loosened up nicely and has been behaving well as I sit working at my desk. I'm thinking that my back just doesn't do mornings. I'll probably try again this evening for a real walk if the back still feels good.

So far, it looks like the timing of the ToT (9:30 PM) will work perfectly with my body's functioning. I am trying to get some early morning walks in to slowly prepare for the half marathon, but so far that has not been pretty. Although there is still time to straighten the clock out, I am currently considerring spending the Friday night before the half at Jelly Rolls until closing and then heading to the start line from there. That way, my body may just think it is still night-time and not realize its actually early morning.:confused3 Just preliminary planning for now. Luckily, I've still got a few months to address the problem.

Just a real quick post. I promise I'll pop in again to catch up with everyone!! I got in my 10 miler today, since tomorrow's cancelled football game has been uncancelled!! Daggum Tiny Mights!! I finished in 1:32:08. I ran the first 6.65 in 1:02:37, so my pace was 9:24. Then for the last 3.35 miles it took me 29:31 for an avg pace of 8:50. YAY!! Now if only I could run that pace for the entire 10 miles!! Then I'd be sub 4 for sure!!

Dana

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. Don't know if I'll get back on tonight or not. I leave for DW in 14 hours!

Lisa - If you figure out how to keep up with this thread, bottle it and I'll be your first customer!;)

If I can ever get consistent in my training, I think I'll faint. I was going good for about 2 weeks then LRTO (Life REALLY took over). Haven't kept up with the thread either.

Don't remember if I posted this before or not, so sorry if it's a repeat.

I decided not to take my class at the Comm. Coll. this semester. I didn't make the time to practice and prepare over the summer and I was stressing out about being behind before class even got started. (I don't know how Howard (Keenho) does it.

I'm working a full and PT job and taking care of a sick family member. I know that pretty soon, Goofy training is going to be more intense and time consuming. I just don't see me having time to focus on my studies this semester.

I'm okay with it (although a little bummed). These classes are more for personal enrichment and maybe to have a pt job when I retire from the FT (and that's not for 10 more years). So there's no real rush to get them done.

So many things I want to do and so little time :confused3 (that could be the makings for a song:) )

Happy training folks! I'm off for some much needed R & R (if walking the parks can be considered such).

Terri

What up WISH Team?!?
I do have to apologize....I have missed out of some great posts due to some post-CDC work and LTO type stuff. I am pretty far behind on this week but will do my best. The heat here in eastern Iowa has been pretty training unfriendly, so I can relate to everyones heat issues...to a certain degree (no pun intended).
Howard - That was an AWESOME time on the Lance Armstrong 5K, even more so for behind just on the heels of the CDC!:thumbsup2
Judy - Great job getting back out there post surgery.
Christa - Good luck on the 70 miles tomorrow. Hope the weather is cooperative.
WWDave - Great job in breaking out and energizing your attitude to be able to cope with the heat/humidity!
Steve - My mental games aren't working for me lately due to the heat. During my long runs I would imagine running through Epcot or MK, trying to hear the music of the parks and seeing the crowds. But lately all I'm seeing is a big pressure cooker with me inside.
Beth - That's great you have such a strong supportive husband who is into your training and is backing you 100%.
Jackie - Hopefully missing yesterdays run will allow your ankle to get that much better and your run tomorrow will be good and strong!
Kim - Great job on your 7K run! That's soooo neat for your DN!
Monte - As much as I am complaining about the heat and humidity here, I am SOOO NOT ready for snow. Keep it out west for awhile, please. Glad you didn't get to see the business end of the paws that made those prints you saw.
Kiene - Sorry to hear your 4 miler was affected by the heat and humidity. But you still got in 4 miles! Way To Go!!
Lily - Good to hear from you! I can relate to LTO as well!
Leana - As great as your training is going, your LR tomorrow will be a brezze. You are an IronWoman!
Renee - Stonkers stink! But it's great when your next run is strong. :thumbsup2
jeanneg - That is a great tip about the water bottle and gatorade. I will have to try that out next run. Thank you!
Big Vic - Strong work on the TM!
Jen - Heat or not, I hope your enjoying WDW. I mean, come on, How can anyone not enjoy WDW.
Jen in Ga - I with ya in the running dork catagory. A 24 pack of Vanilla Bean Gu would make me giggle like a little school girl! And new shoes on top of that??? TEE HEE HEE
SkyDave - Great job on the speedy 5 miles!
Stephanie - Congrats on enjoying the new job!
Mr. DB - I bought and used a Nathan Trek pack for the WDW 1/2 and did not like it. The bottle bounced every time I ran and it even fell out. I now use a bottle holder (also by Nathan) that has a small pouch for cell phone or 2 Gu's.
I too am looking at the fuel belts so I can go back to being hands free.
Kristi - If my doc told me to cut back on my caffeine intake, I would tell him that he would have better luck telling me to give up my left you-know-what.
Susie - Good luck on your marathon training!
Bill - Timmy is 5 mos. already? Wow, how time flies! Next thing you know he'll be telling you to get fast passes for TOT before riding RnRC!

Training note:
Did my LR of 18miles today and the first 14 went pretty good, but the last 4 was a real struggle. The heat wasn't too bad, but the humidity really sapped me in the end. I usually do run 4 walk 2, but ended up doing more walking those last 4. I decided to switch things up and run 2 and walk 4, but it still ended up a nasty big stonker. Work tomorrow and Sunday. Plan is 42 min Sunday after work, and 60 min on Monday (day off yay). Then XT on Tuesday, rest Wednesday, and LR 20 miles on Thursday. Then taper before my big date with the road on 9/23.

Happy Training!

Driving by to say hi and say I'm back from a marathon day at the Clinic where my Mom got her knee replacement surgery today. She is doing well tonight since the "block" has not worn off yet and I understand that it is going to be most difficult for a bit when it does. It was an interesting thing that happened after about an hour I got called to the desk where the doc was on the phone saying all went well. They still needed to stitch up Mom and it would be a long bit before we would get to see her. Then he said that he was giving her the phone. I hear him saying to her "You've got a phone call!" It was a first for me--talking with the patient who was still IN the operating room. I must say we all had a good experience with that. I know it helped us and I'm sure she felt better for it too.

Going to rest now.

Kristi - If my doc told me to cut back on my caffeine intake, I would tell him that he would have better luck telling me to give up my left you-know-what.
:lmao:

Lily
-

I am a bad, bad girl. Letting LTO and not working out. I know I joke about my speed with this working out one day a week thing, but I really do know it's not good. :sad2: Honestly, I am starting to miss "my" time out there on the track with just some music. Who woulda thunk I'd miss exercising? ;)

OT - is it a bad thing to leave your DH & DS for 4 days over New Years to go to Vegas with some girlfriends? And maybe do some of :dance3: :rockband: with some Goo?
Chad said I can go, and my friend is letting me stay in her timeshare for free. I just need airfare & a few $$ for spending money. I mean, after 8 years being married, New Years isn't such a big deal (we barely stayed awake until midnight last year in FL). And Chad has to work over the holidays, or I would insist he come on the trip. Really!
Besides, we are going to marathon weekend without DS. ;)

Morning WISHers! Fueling up to head out in about 30 minutes. I've been dreading this run all week. I think it has something to do with after my 18 miler training for the LR Marathon, I got really sick, had to scrap my 20 miler and almost scrapped the whole race. Just gotta push those demons aside and get out there. DH was funny last night, telling me how excited he was about this run, especially b/c we will be doing it together. I told him not to expect "Miss Merry Sunshine" from me out there today. It will business, nothing personal, just business--the fun will be when it's over!

Beth--Good luck with your 18 this weekend!

Lily--glad to hear that your mom made it through surgery. Hopefully the recovery will be fast

Andrew--WTG on the 18 miles! stonker or not, you got it done--put it in the books! Refresh my memory, what event are you running in Sept?

Terri--Have a great time in WDW!

Kristi--A girl's Vegas New Year's sounds like a blast!

Okay, gonna finish my coffee and wake DH up. It amazes me how it takes me at least an hour to get up and ready for a run, and DH can roll out of bed and be in the car ready to go in 15 min!

Red Dragon, Martha, what a wonderful thing to say, you made my day thank you.

Lisa, I have never worn one of those cooling bandana things. I try to keep my equipment to a minimum. Shorts, socks, shoes and a singlet or tank top and I'm there, a watch usually but not always.

Everyone look in the mirror today and say to yourself, "I'm so beautiful today". and mean it. Who is the moron who gave us the unrealistic ideal of beauty anyway. Beauty is a total package: Strong body of a marathoner, kind heart, good and fun personality. Not a phyco pampered airhead in a Barbie or Ken suit.:cloud9:

I had a wonderful walk this morning, I have made peace with the heat and even dropped my speed back a bit. I went a min per mile slower and enjoyed the morning, feeling energized after. My 4 miles went by to quickly.

I was rewarded by having 2 half grown bunnies watching me from just off the edge of the road. As I passed I said, "Morning Rabbits". I'm pretty sure one said "YARC" as I passed on by.:rolleyes1

Have an awesome day y'all.

DAve:hippie:

Good morning team.

Sorry only time for a quick drive by, DH wants to get out to the malls before it gets to busy.

Just got back from our 6K 51:25 much better then my 6K TM time of just over 60 min......I really don't like my TM.....:scared1:

Kim
