Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Judy - WELCOME BACK!!! Now I feel really bad about turning off the clock this morning and rolling over... if I'd known you were making your return this morning I would have joined you.

Kristin - Hope you can keep up with us. This group really motivates!

Martha - I know you're secretly glad that it's not just you causing things to break!

Like I told Judy, I turned the clock off before the alarm went off at 5:00. Had something to do with the dog having a fit at 2:00am because of the bunny rabbit sitting outside the bay window. From the commotion Mystic was making, I was certain there was a herd of elephants in our front yard. Never mind that this same bunny comes into the yard every day... Then just as I was falling asleep again, she decided her tummy was bothering her and she needed to go out. It was a long night. :rolleyes2

After work, I ran 5 miles on the TM. Outside was NOT an option - official temp here today was 105  (although I did see two runners go by my house around 5pm - obviously more dedicated than I am!) Almost had a Carrie moment - storms came up toward the end of the run, and just as I slowed the speed to cool down, the lights flickered and the power went off just for a second, but long enough to turn the TM off. Fortunately I was going slow enough by then that I didn't fall completely off the back... :rotfl:

Hey Gang... I miss all you WISHers tons. But I have one thing to say about WDW.... DUDEm, IT'S HOT HERE. I mean so hot that it is getting miserable. I have been told that the temps are abnormal... kind of like January was. But we have short hours in the park just to keep the girls from dying. But we are still in WDW and that is all that matters.

JUDY!!!! I am so happy for you. I am jumping with joy in WDW for you!!!! How does the foot feel?????

Heather/Kevin - I hope Dean keeps you safe!!!!!

Jackie - So far so good with my PF. I brought my orthotics and good shoes with and that is helping. I have only had minor discomfort. I wore my crocs for part of the day today and I am still OK! Thanks for the warning.

Sorry I haven't had time to keep up with everyone. Congrats to all the races and LR's and I hope to join everyone when I return!!!!

The good news: I got a box today with new running shoes, socks, amphipod replacement bottles, and a box of 24 gels. And, I ran 3 miles in the above-mentioned shoes and socks and liked them a lot (although the run itself was miserable- go figure).

The bad news: I was totally thrilled with my box. OK, I understand the shoes, because new shoes are always fun, but I'm a little scared that I was so excited over what was basically socks, water bottles, and gels. It's not as if I didn't have my dorky moments pre-running, but now I am a running dork! :rotfl:

Looks like everyone is doing well this week. Please tell me that all of you with the crazy LRs are preparing for upcoming races, and not in the building the base stage for Disney training. If you guys are running double-digit miles getting ready for the marathon weekend already, I'm in deep, deep trouble...;)

I just kind of wondered this..but what do you all use to keep hydrated on the course? I was looking at a FuelBelt but I just didn't know how useful it was going to be..I just thought I'd throw that out there for all the vets to comment on..

--Mr. DB

OK, so I took a night off last night and missing this run was not an option, so I had to boot it before boot camp to get my 5 miles in. I wound up leaving work late so by the time I got running I was pretty sure I'd be lucky to fit in 4 or 4.5. Apparently being in a time crunch is motivating because I fit those 5 miles in - in 51:33 for a 10:19/mi pace. That is a full 1 min/mi faster than I normally run! Maybe this is what is known as a tempo run? I finished with a couple minutes to spare and headed over to boot camp. We were supposed to jog to warm up, but since I had just finished running I was going pretty fast. My instructor started to chastise me, but when I told her I'd just finished a run I was let off the hook. But then I had boot camp to contend with and I worked out hard..!! I'm supposed to meet the running group for speed work tomorrow. After the fast run and boot camp today I'm worried the bottom will fall out tomorrow on the speed workout..!! :scared:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

This is just a drive-by post as I'm getting ready to head out the door for a morning run. Yesterday I ran 5 miles after work in 44:49 min/8:57 mpm. It was a great run, overcast and cool, and I felt good the whole way. I needed that.

Have a good day all, I'll be back later.

I have always taken a Fuel Belt on the course. I had a gatorade water bottle, gels, camera and cell phone in them. The first year I didn't have any of the gatorade until the end of the race because the water stops were spaced out nice enough for me. Last year, I started using the gatorade around mile 16 because it was so hot and humid. I will probably do the same thing this year as well.

oh me oh my--full training for me starts on Monday.

And I Have had such a slacker summer.:scared1:

I started South Beach Diet yesterday in phase II since I am still feeding my baby. I need to lose a bit of my caboose.:rolleyes1

I will be training with John Bingham's book. (I'm a penguin--hear me waddle!)

6 weeks in, 14 weeks out, I will add in a half-long day the day before my long days to simulate the Goofy.

My weeks should look something like this:

Monday: run/walk
Tuesday: T-tapp cross training
Wednesday: run/walk
Thursday: rest
Friday: T-tapp or other crosstraining (or half-long day)
Saturday: Long day
Sunday: Rest

My house will be the water stop and my long days will consist of neighborhood laps. Running with a water bottle of some kind the longer the runs get and refueling by my house.

Mr. DB fuel belts are great. Just make sure you train with it. The weight will add to your posture, so be especially cognizant of proper form when you run with one. Other than that, they are great!

Morning all. About to head out the door for the first day on my newest job. I'm excited about starting at the gym--I figure, I spend enough time there anyway, might as well get paid.

JenGA--only speaking for myself here--but my double digit LRs are due to a marathon the end of Sept. then after 2 week recovery or so, DH and I will jump into WDW training. I'm not that much of a sadist to actually enjoy 18 miles in 90 degree heat for no reason!;)

Mr.DB--I use an amphipod belt with one large bottle that fits in the curve of the back. DH has the amphipod belt with two small bottles on the side--I like his better, less bounce factor, and his also has a larger pocket for gus, etc.

DaveSW--WTG on your run! Super Speedy!

Leana--You are a workout machine! Great job with the "tempo" run and boot camp.

Okay, so I really need to get the shoes on the kids and get out the door!

Morning, WISHers!

Following my stonker run on Monday, I had a stonker xt last night. Usually xting on the bicycle at the Y is easy for me, but last night was horrible. So I got up early today and got out and finished my run before 8 a.m. It was much, much better! I did 4 miles followed by a sprint workout. It was still hot, but not unbearable.

Shan - I have Garmin envy! Have fun with it.
Jeanne - I bet I have run through your 'hood!
Dona - WTG using DD's dance class as time to run!
moon - You'll have to come over to my neck of the woods. People are right friendly here!
Kristi - WTG with the mile under 11:00!
Jackie - I will plan on running Reedy Creek as my mileage increases and I need more places to run.
Angie - Have fun with middle school! We just survived it and now DD starts high school...
Kevin - Glad to hear you're recovering - PD for the walking!
Erica - PD to you - feel better!
Kim - Hope you enjoyed the game!
Heather - No a/c in Houston!?! :scared1:
Beth - 60 minutes of pilates and I wouldn't be moving the next day.
Nancy - Send some rain our way!
Marhta - I think you're right on schedule - not too early!
Susie - Welcome to the "official" training schedule!
Dana - A run to the beach sound great! Great times on the other run, too!
Stephanie - PD for the new job - hope it goes well!
Bill - I remember rejoicing when the kids got to start on the cereal!
Christa - There sure are a lot of us NC folk here!
Judy - Welcome back to training!!
Terri - Have fun at WDW!
Rachael - I don't think I could do a workout with a poncho - I always feel like I'm going to suffocate in them!
patsbill - Congrats on a great increase in your pace!
wwDave - Humidity stinks!
Kristin - Welcome!
Vic - WTG with the treadmill workout!
Jen - Sorry it's so hot, but hope WDW is great!
Jen in GA - I agree that the huge miles people are putting in are freaking me out a bit!
Mr DB - I sometimes run in a cycling jersey which has 3 pockets across the back that can hold a small fuel belt bottle. I really like it and don't get much bouncing with it.
Lisa - I totally slacked last summer and promised myself I wouldn't do it this summer! I did much better this year. Welcome back!

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Just a quick training post for me. Last night did 4 miles TM and pump class. Between the pilates monday and pump class yesterday, my upper body is sore. It is good I don't have a job that I have to stock shelves as I wouldn't be able to lift things.

Nancy

Hi Guys.

Well, yesterday turned out to be a rest day instead of running during DD dance time. "The best laid plans" and all that ..... DD is going through some kind of 6yo hormonal swing or something. Maybe it's having her older sister gone to college. I don't know. Anyway, she was a basket case all day about going to dance for the first time this year. She's been at the same studio since she was 3yo. Anyway, I ended up having to stay there with her so she would dance and not cry in the corner. I figure I'm not paying the teacher enough for "therapy time". Today she is already starting to stress about next week. She keeps saying, "But you said you always do what kids need and I "need you to stay with me"". " Great. Now she's quoting my words back to me. :rolleyes1 I don't remember what context I said that in. Oh, well, this too will pass.

So, I'll have to do extra laps in the pool today -- I promised swimming two days this week as the days before school are coming to an end. We will "officially" start our homeschool after Labor Day.

Thanks for letting me rant. I'm still looking at a long run on Saturday morning. I predict I will have to get up early and go to an undisclosed location so I am "unreachable" . :cool2:

Later Guys.
Dona

Good morning racing team -

No training for me this morning, but I knew that would happen since I had my Sexual Harrassment Training Meeting very early this morning. And now that I know how to harrass everyone, I am going to leave work early and get my training in. Yay! :thumbsup2

Jen - Oh man, even though it's sweltering in WDW right now, I still envy you!

Good Morning teamates!!!!

Just finished my 6K 60:26 on the TM, slower then I would have liked but I gotter done!!!

Baseball game last night was great, DH even caught a fowl ball, my nieces husband is a huge baseball fan back in England, he actually watches the Blue Jays and asked his wife to catch him a fowl ball cause we where sitting on the 1st baseline so we where shocked when one went right for DH and a good thing he was a BB player in his younger days cause he caught it and gave it to DN.

Oh and my really big news...there is a musician....might be Canadian not sure named Justin Hines....well he has a song called "wish you well" well in the video there is a little girl close to the end in a red dress, that is my great Niece Madison.....she is in acting school and that is her first "job" I think the website it justinhines.com we are so excited.

Hey guys!

I agree about the Fuelbelt, I just got one and it does feel like I'm running differently with it on. I can understand training with it before a race.

I ran 3.10 miles this morning with a pace of 10:23. My left foot started hurting near the end and now my left knew hurts! :headache: I hope I'm OK, I'm getting closer to my first race at Race for the Taste.

DH is still so totally slacking. I'm a tad worried about him getting a migraine after the RFTT. He signed up for the Georgia ING half again yesterday. He'll have to be more on top of it!

Kim I am a Bruins fan, so not sure we can call it hockey here any more. Went from cups in the early 70s to the Big Bad Bruins who always made the playoffs and would go deep, to making the playoffs and losing in the first round, to a team now that is one of the worst in the league and appear to be afraid to check or hit anything. The sports radio shows have callers complaining about what a bunch of wimps the players are. I know its a "new" style of play today, but us Bruins fans will always appreciate tough, "old time" hockey. You know, like Eddie Shore.

You WISHers are so great -- in that you are you are making plans to take care of me marathon weekend. Kim and her DH are already planning my post half marathon recovery walk. :grouphug: I guess I will not have to have any concerns about being at WDW marathon weekend "alone." Its sounding more and more though that I might not have as much "quiet time" as I thought I would being there without the family.

Tell your DH congrats on the foul ball. Did he get any TV time for making the grab?
