Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Kim You WISHers are so great -- in that you are you are making plans to take care of me marathon weekend. Kim and her DH are already planning my post half marathon recovery walk. :grouphug: I guess I will not have to have any concerns about being at WDW marathon weekend "alone." Its sounding more and more though that I might not have as much "quiet time" as I thought I would being there without the family.

You know we are here for you buddy:hug:

What did you think of your pick up of Chara...that guy is just a freak....pretty funny a year or 2 ago when he whipped McCabe around like a rag doll....I still pull that up on the inet when I want a good laugh....

Yikes, I was spelling foul wrong...I was looking at FOWL thinking that isn't right but couldn't figure out what was wrong with it....boy a few days off work and the brain cells go to pot....:lmao: I don't know if he got any TV time, I was just so shocked he got it. First one we ever got.

Kim

Kim--- That is so cool that DH caught the foul ball. The reason I remember about the Hard Rock is that we have eaten there on a trip to Toronto. For hockey fans to come to your area it was required to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame and Wayne Gretsky restaurant. I had not been a professional hockey game for a couple years, but we went this year to a AHL Hershey Bears game. I felt I was at a big commercial and there just happened to be a hockey game as a sideline. It took away from the game and went be in any rush to return.

Patsbill-- Our area is big Flyers country, but the Flyers glory days are long gone.

Nancy

Chara was one of the big disappointments last year. He is like 6'7'' tall and big, signed a huge contract, was named Captain and didn't hit anyone. Didn't even stand up to people cheap shotting the Bs little skill guys.

As to your DH, I just assumed that maybe they use duck baseballs in Toronto and he caught one. ;)

Renee: Where do you live? (I'm in Heritage) Are you doing the City of Oaks?

Krista: are you also in Raleigh? The Reedy Creek that I know is right off of Blue Ridge Road, but your address says Charlotte.

Kristin: welcome to the group. I too have trouble keeping up with all the posts, but just do what you can.

patsbill: that must be it.....I have that virus also!

Kristi: I must have missed something....what is the water station volunteer thingy? Is it for the participants or spectators? I'm always so clueless.

Water bottle question person: (I forgot) I use an Access by Ultimate Direction fanny pack/bottle holder thingy. I usually fill it half full of Gatorade and then freeze it. Before I leave I fill it to the top with water so I end up drinking the Gatorade more towards the end.

Vic:thanks for always responding to my posts......you the man!

No training for me yesterday....:scared: I had to deal with a family drama! After I did get home, I could have gotten on the treadmill, but that didn't seem to happen. :confused3 :confused3 I was really tired, not just physically but mentally too. I just gave myself a break!;)

I have done 2 miles on the treadmill already, and will get back on for another 5 miles later.

I had to miss pump class last night....and I sad! I guess I am getting used to the abuse!

PaDisneyFan: How was class last night? I missed ya! Good job with your 4 miles on the TM!

Jeanneg: Don't worry, I seem to be behind the eight ball all the time! It's hard to keep track of everybody!

WWDave: Great job on you're training walk! Does the rolling pin help you? I have a really sore calf muscle, and when dh rubs it I just about go through the roof! It doesn't bother me running, but it is super sore afterwards!

Kim: I am really looking forward to my Toronto trip! We might even do a baseball game (for the boys) while we are there!

Jeanneg: (again) I got myself a double water bottle carrier for my LR and I mix the gatorade with water too! Seems to work pretty well. Two bottles were perfect for my 16 mile run last week.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Beth

Kim I am a Bruins fan, so not sure we can call it hockey here any more. Went from cups in the early 70s to the Big Bad Bruins who always made the playoffs and would go deep, to making the playoffs and losing in the first round, to a team now that is one of the worst in the league and appear to be afraid to check or hit anything. The sports radio shows have callers complaining about what a bunch of wimps the players are. I know its a "new" style of play today, but us Bruins fans will always appreciate tough, "old time" hockey. You know, like Eddie Shore.

Tell your DH congrats on the foul ball. Did he get any TV time for making the grab?

Transplanted Ducks fan here but I'm trying hard to be converted into a Pred's fan...at least the locals blocked Balsillie from buying the Preds and moving them to Canada..

back to our regularly scheduled topic...the reason why I was asking about what hydration packs everyone is using is because it looks like FuelBelt is getting rid of the Revenge pack (3 bottle/1 gel flask) and wanted to know if anyone had tried it and what they thought (or if they had any other thoughts on the topic)...

Renee: Where do you live? (I'm in Heritage) Are you doing the City of Oaks?
Hi neighbor! I am way north, almost in Granville County. But I DO run through your neighborhood as my kids both practice soccer at Smith Creek; I'm there 2, 3, or 4 nights a week. And you're right; it's HILLY!

I am planning on doing the City of Oaks half, but I'm not registered yet.

Renee

Krista: are you also in Raleigh? The Reedy Creek that I know is right off of Blue Ridge Road, but your address says Charlotte.
I am in Charlotte! We have a Reedy Creek here too. How funny! I run the trails all the time.

Mr. DB - About H2O belts.....This is just what I do. I do train with one. Mine, I think, is a fuel belt and has 2 bottles on the side and a pocket in the middle. I ALWAYS carry my phone, emergency contact info, and insurance info, and $$ to refill the bottles during the training run. However, this is where I probably differ from most of the people on the team. During a marathon, I do not carry one. They have drinks on the course and it feels so heavy near the end. I have a # belt and I have added a small pocket to put my phone in. I put my gels right on the belt b/c they have a place they can slide onto it. I try to be as lite as I can during a race and this has always worked for me.

Lisalovespooh - If you are interested in the plan I used to train for Goofy, let me know I can email it to you...it also included double runs. Honestly, after the training, Goofy was easy.

Dona - Your DD6 sounds like my DD7! Dance! I cannot even talk about that. It will take years of therapy for ME to get over her in dance!:lmao:

Judy! WOW! So glad you are able to run again!

I know I have missed many, but I just cannot keep up!
Did 5 miles on the dreadmill today with an 8:29 pace.
Biked Tuesday...only 11 miles.
Ran 4.8 Monday.
MY PLAN for the rest of the week is to bike tomorrow, and LR Friday, and BL (bike long) Saturday. I will then stink AGAIN when I show up for DD9s soccer practice.:rotfl:

Well, another training day down!   I got 2 miles on the TM this morning (((and boy, was that a struggle!))) I almost got off after 1/2 mile because it was bad, but I got back 'on the horse' to finish 2. I am glad I did. I did another 5 miles outside.....YEAH! It was in the 60's, cool, overcast, but very humid. It was ok, since I haven't run outside for such a long time(((except my LR last weekend))) it felt really good. I got to run on the new extension of the rail trail that goes from my ds's baseball field to a park (John Rudy park, Nancy). The trail is paved and very nice. I used to run the road from the two points, and it was taking my life in my hands b/c the traffic was bad (and FAST!). I am glad that running while the boys are at practice is working out so well. Makes it much easier for me that the boys are working out at the same time!:cool1: :cool1:

I missed the gym the past few days, but I am not sure I will be able to get there tomorrow either.

Just checking in quickly so I don't fall back into lurking.

Kristi and Leana- Congratulations on the new family members! They are adorabable!:cloud9:

Jeanneg- I hate pebbles, too! Unless they are the Fruity kind and then I eat WAY too many of them.:upsidedow

Hoosmi- I understand your running package excitement!

Kevin- Here's some :wizard: to help you get well soon!

Judy- So happy you're back to training.

Everyone is reporting such inspiring runs!

Last night I did 4 miles which were pretty miserable because of the humidity. It felt like I was breathing water. Rest day today.

Kiena

jeanneg - Every year Disney needs volunteers to man different areas of any particular race. Some of us are volunteering during the Half or Full to help out, as well as cheer on all the participants - esp. our WISHers. It also helps that volunteers get a jacket, meal & a one day park ticket. ;) Check out the volunteer thread - there's alot more info over there.

Christa - I am with you with carrying everything but the kitchen sink on a training run. Then during the real thing, I also rely on water stops.

No training today. LTO! :sad2:
Just trying to get 5 hours of sleep tonight, instead of my usual 4 of late.

Renee/Jeanne - For the first time, DD's team doesn't play at Smith Creek this season. DH's boys' team has a game out there in September though.

Jen - Glad the feet are doing okay. Taking lots of breaks from the parks got us through the heat even in June, and the temps then were nothing like what you're dealing with!

Jen in Ga - I am a running dork too! And yes, I'm running either a half or full the first weekend in November, so that's why my distances are so long already!

MSDave - Congrats on a great run. I'm so envious of cool weather!

Mr. DB
- I bought my FuelBelt after my first 6 mile run when it got really warm before I finished and I didn't have any water. I thought I'd die before I got back to the car. Now I use it on all LRs - I have 2 bottles for water, 2 for Gatorade, and a pouch for gels. I'm planning to take it on the course for gels, cell phone, and camera.

No training to report, but the day's been a stonker anyway. My legs hurt this morning - apparently using the same orthotics in a new pair of shoes requires an adjustment period - didn't plan on that, and my legs feel as sore as they did the first time I used the orthotics. Then the van wouldn't start, so I had to take DD's car to work and coordinate with her all day.

To top it all off, finally got a look at DD's exam schedule, and it appears she has an exam on Fri AM Jan 11. I've been planning to fly down Thursday afternoon; now it looks like we won't be able to leave until Friday midday.

For all you hockey fans - just got a flyer last night for a 5K sponsored by the Carolina Hurricanes as a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The coach, trainer, and several of the players are going to run, and there's a pancake breakfast afterwards. It's the day after my birthday, so I'm definitely running it, and I'm trying to get the entire family to do it as a birthday celebration!

Although a life long Bruins fan, as an 20 year Connecticut resident, I feel compelled to say thanks for stealing the Whaler-canes. At least there is some joy when we read how much money the team loses in its new, profitable location. We don't blame you though, Jackie.

We have a/c! :dance3: DH & I took the kids on a short walk tonight. DH has his doctor's appointment tomorrow. Hopefully he will be cleared to drive. :drive: School starts Monday for the girls. Life should be back to normal around here soon. I need to get back into training. Maybe tomorrow. :rolleyes1

I have read everything here, but won't make any attempt to catch up to everyone.

I'm happy to read that all are putting in those steps and seem to be getting better with health/injury issues.

I've had LTO this week and not much to report.

Please check The WISH Team Calendar. It is updated. Add your event if it's not up there.

ps--I think I've got a "virus" gained some pounds since Minnie and that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
:thumbsup2

Hi guys! I met up with the running group for some speed work this evening, and I am happy to report that this felt a lot better this week compared to last week.

We warmed up at an easy jog for 10 min, ran a speed interval of 1K, walked 2 min, repeat for a total of 3K of speed intervals. Then an easy jog back for another 10 min. I finished up with 3.88 mi in 41:56 for a 10:48/mi pace. The speed intervals were at about a 9:30/mi pace. I was able to keep up with the group and hold a conversation, so things felt good. Maybe I could have gone a bit faster..?? Next week they are upping the run to 5 intervals so that should be a good challenge.

I may try for a short run tomorrow to make sure I make 10 miles for my midweek mileage. I want to try to make sure I keep my mileage on track for the 10% increase rule. Saturday is a 12 mile run....nervous!

I hope everyone has a great Thursday. I'm off to Red Deer for a meeting all day, then boot camp in the evening. See y'all on Friday!

Morning WISHers, just stopping by for a quick post before I hop in the shower before work.

Run this morning was a complete stonker. I was sending hate vibes at the TM the entire time I was on it. Had to take a lot of walk breaks more often than usual, and the minutes seemed to be taking ten times as long as they usually do to tick down. I originally planned on running 6 miles, but only made it to 5.83 by the end of my 70 minutes (and that's only with including my warm up and cooldown walks, so I don't even know if that counts...) Ick. :headache:

At least the day seems a bit cooler out today. Lots of grey skies, hopefully rain later. Cross your fingers for us!

Good morning, team!

Jackie/Renee: dumb question, but is Smith Creek the one in Heritage? If so, I walk it all the time, but never noticed the name because I'm usually so zoned out.

Jackie: sorry to hear about your daughter's exam....I thought all schools in raleigh ended the semester at the Christmas break since they start so early.

Kristi: I'll have to check out the volunteer info. Do you know if someone else can use the free ticket? I have an AP so that wouldn't be a perk for me.

Beth: you are a training monster!!!! Now you'll have to sign up for a WDW event!

I am reading "Marathoning for Mortals"....it is so inspiring. When i'm done I need to have my husband read it since he is doing the Donald and could use some motivation.

Morning everyone. I got my Walk Away the Pounds DVDs yesterday, so I XT with the 3 milers. I used to have that one on video until the VCR ate it. I forgot what a great workout you get with those DVDs especially the longer walks. I could have done without all the upper body workout since I was still sore from pilates and pump earlier in the week. But I did do most of the upper body stuff, I used 2 pounds weights. It is quite a variety that you get. The 3 miler is the longest walk, but it had a number of 30 minute ones which have different styles including jogging, kickboxing, yoga. So will be able to use them for XT. It was well worth the $15. Thanks to the person who gave us the link.

Beth--- You really did workout yesterday with all that running. Great job.
I have to pick up my car tonight so won't be at pump class, but may try to get to 7pm stretch.

Moonie--- Good for you getting up early to run on the TM.

Leana--- You are really doing a great job at boot camp. They would have to be calling the ambulance to haul me away if I was doing it.

Heather--- Glad your A/C is back, I can only imagine that Texas without A/C in the summer would be miserable.

Jackie--- Hope your legs are feeling better.

Jeanne--- Has it cooled down at all yet? This weekend we are going back up into the 90's. So will be a 30 degree temperature difference. Not sure if the Sat walk will be inside or outside. But I need to buy those new sneakers before I do another longer walk.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Nancy
