Wk Of Aug 19 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Just a quick post as my battery's almost dead for the laptop and i'm too lazy to go up all those stairs get the power cord.

Stephanie--good luck to you and DH on your run today! Hope it went well.

WWDave--WTG on the 4 miles! The rabbit's were talking to you, huh? You sure that heat thing really isn't affecting you?? :confused3

Kim--nice job on the 6K and good luck on the 12K tomorrow. You're going to do great in your half in 5 weeks!

Andrew--good job getting the 18 miles finished under those conditions!

Terri--I'm jealous that you're going to be in WDW. Can you fit two more adults in your suitcases? If so, Krista and I are in! :thumbsup2

Dana--nice job on the 10 miles. Wow, that's quite a pace!

Well, I finished my 17 miler this morning. It was great for the first 14, then I figured I was feeling good, so I decided to push the pace a bit. Not a great idea. It was getting pretty hot and humid out and I guess I pushed it a little too hard because I had to back way off at mile 15. I ended up finishing, but that was about it. So now I plan to sleep for the rest of the day (or clean the house, if Krista has anything to say about it. ;) ).

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and good luck getting in those steps.

Steve

Hi, WISHers!

I was a good girl this morning (unlike Thursday AND Friday when I did not workout at all) and got up when the alarm went off at 6. DH and I drove out to Shelley Lake and I did 8 miles in almost exactly a 10 minute pace, counting 2 or 3 walk breaks. It was humid but bearable (but is now stifling - kids' soccer games are all cancelled due to heat). It felt okay; it was nice to go somewhere with lots and lots of runners. (DH and I did not run together; he only did 6 miles, lucky guy!)

During the 5th and 6th mile I really didn't want to be out there running, so I summoned the spirits of my WISH teammates and it kept me going, so thanks! I really was thinking about how inspiring you all are.

Most interesting sight this morning is a tie between the guy walking the trail on stilts and the copperhead snake slithering along the side.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Renee - I've seen that guy on stilts. Isn't he amazing? And we saw the copperhead this morning too, although it probably wasn't the same copperhead... our group ran Shelley to McDonalds @ Crabtree and back, but I stopped at that point. Weird missing opening day of soccer!

Lily - Hope your mom is doing okay today!

Steve
- 17 miles deserves sleep. You can clean tomorrow!

WWDave - Glad I'm not the only one talking to the wildlife. There are a couple of deer on one of my regular routes that I say hello to quite frequently!

Was scheduled for 20 today. Only ran once during the week, and had lots of strange pains in my legs and ankles. Knew it was questionable heading out, but was hoping the WISH spirit would carry me through. DD dropped me off and took the car. Felt okay, but my ankle was sore. At mile 9, I had sharp stabbing pains shooting through my left shin, so I made an abrupt stop to the running and walked back to the start (fortunately we were close!) and called DH to come pick me up!

Now I'm on the couch with ice on my leg. Looks like it may be a long week!

Jackie

Steve--your 17 miler sounds a lot like our 18. First 12 miles were awesome--ave. somewhere around 8:56 and then all heck broke loose, so to speak and the last 6 miles were torture. Combo of the heat/humidity and DH started having sinus issues. Luckily, there was a nice breeze, so, even though it was hot, it wasn't stifling. I think I finished just under 3hrs--not the stellar performance I was hoping for. Here's hoping that Ohio is much cooler at the end of September. I think it was 87 when we finished--and that was at 9:30:scared1:

Jackie--so sorry about your stonker of a run. In Feb. I had a 20 miler that turned into 9 as well. But I should never have been on the road, I was recovering from an illness. Here's hoping that next week is much better

Renee--Great run today! But YIKES on the copperhead--that why I keep my eyes on the road and not the sides. Just hoping that I don't encounter any legless creatures on the road!

Beth--Much luck and PD for your 18 tomorrow! I'm hoping that it will be much better than ours!:wizard:

Okay, time for a rest. We went straight from our run (after a quick cold shower) to a waterpark for dniece's bday party. Now, I'm baking brownies for our next get-together tonight! Have a great Sat. all!

Steve, Andrew and Stephanie I really have to admire that you went out in this heat to do those really long runs. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for all of you. Even if you didn't have the best times at least you got it done.

Jackie--- I hope you ankle is feeling better.

Beth--- I think it is to be cooler tomorrow for your 18 LR. Good luck.

Renee--- Good job on your 8 miler. Ok if any snake went by me, I would be long gone from that area. I hate sneakers. I don't get close enough to tell what kind they are.

Kim---Way to go getting in your 6K. As hard as you have trained you will do great in your half marathon in Sept.

Lilie--- Sending pixie dust to your Mom that she continues to do well after surgery.

I did 5 miles on the TM today. This was the last weekend before official marathon training begins, so I only did what I felt like doing not what I had to do. There was no way I was doing it outside. I am a whimp.

Nancy

OK--since hubby is out of town by Monday...

I will be doing my first day of training.....TOMORROW!!!!!

35 minutes of 3/2's I think...and I am adventuring outside.

Though a bit late for my run tomorrow--I have an iddy biddy ipod...but was wondering what to use for earphones. The hubby got me some regular ones and the thought of something covering my ears when it isn't cold outside has me all :scared: . So tomorrow is sans ipod!

But I got the shoes--some leftover racing socks and my running outfit.

Let the training BEGIN!

So, fellow WISHers.....I had one of those runs on Friday when you spend the entire time wondering WTH do I do this for????? The weather was hot, and about 90% humidity. I drank all of my water/gatorade mixture before mile 4....and only ended up with 5. WOW, it was terrible.

Today, I woke up with a migrane that took the wind out of my sails. I did get my 'new/used' treadmill today, but for now is in the garage since my headache was pretty bad we didn't attempt to get it upstairs. I don't know how my 18 miler will go tomorrow, but I am determined to get it done. I am hoping for the best!

Beth
