Good luck with that meniscus scope job. I've noticed that many people go through that and get no swelling and are back up and moving in no time. I hope you fit into that group. In my case I had a lot of swelling and fluid build up, which set me back a few weeks. The best part was before when the surgeon came into the holding area and wrote YES in pen on the correct knee. Good for you planning to build easy after, and good luck with the return to running.

$65 is getting up there. After being in London last month I promised to never, ever complain about prices anywhere in the USA, including the Disney empire. Here is a sample of what Lesley and I paid, in pounds, for stuff in London. Since the current exchange rate is just a bit below 2:1 you can double these prices to get it in $. During the trip Lesley kept telling me to stop doing that, but I told her , hey I am able to multiply by 2.
London Eye 28 pounds per person
Tower of London 18 pounds per person
St. Paul's 10 pounds per person
Afternoon Tea at Fortnum and Mason's 55 pounds for 2, w/o champagne
And the topper of toppers, which I still cannot believe, a quick first night dinner for 2 tired travelers at Pizza Hut, 30 pounds
. No, I am not making that one up. Who could?
Keeping this in mind helps me when I see the quoted prices at Disney. About the only thing that I really cannot accept is paying the Disney prices for bad meals. Admission prices, race costs, and the like are up there, but "that's what things cost in 2007." Repeat 100 times until I actually believe it.

Ah yes, today's run. It was 34 degrees and really windy out there today on the track. The backstretch was straight into the wind and when you turned into it the wind stood you right up. I was planning to go a bit over an hour today and when Martha said she would run 8 miles I happily volunteered to run next to her. I have to say being next to her was really cool, as every time her pace quickened or slowed I noticed it and could ask her if it was intentional or not. Her toughest mile was 5 to 6, when we went through a 1/4 about 10 seconds slower than the others. She told me she was working through a stitch, thus the ease off in pace. When we hit mile 7 she took off like an F-16 and I asked her is this was on purpose, which is a nice way to ask your wife if she knows what she is doing
. I mean 1 mile is a long way to kick in. She told me, yes, this in intentional, and I had to push my pace to keep up with her. I did get the half mile split in 4:52, so we were clipping right along.
I will take exception with Martha's comment on our variable pace. Our 5K split was 32:40 and our 10K split was 65:25. By my calculations that means our 2nd 5K was 32:45, which seems fairly consistent with the previous 5K!
So I got 8.11 miles at 10:14 per mile. The last time I did that distance and pace was the first 8 miles of the Disney Marathon. I think I've made the step into what I think of as fitness level one of my training. Level 2 in my mind is the fitness to run a good half marathon, and I hope to be there by labor day. After that I'll push it up to the marathon training, because, just once, I'd like to have a smile on my face the last 10K of the Disney Marathon.
And, of course, with one detour, running the Tower of Terror 13K on Saturday, October 27. That is, to the night, the 30 anniversary of the night we met. I know, I'm no Cary Grant, but I'll recognize this evening by standing in the starting corrals with my wife, under the TOT.
