Visiting another resorts pool??

It is not the question that makes these threads get locked, it is the answers.

Yes, some posters will be quick to pounce on certain topics here. I think a lot of it is that those certain topics pop up on an almost daily basis (and I won't mention any) and it gets old quick. Safest bet would be to do a search on a topic first.
And yes, some posters (usually with low post counts) just pop in to stir the pot for their own entertainment. Start a controversial thread and sit back, never posting on it again. And it never fails that it will prove entertaining.

However, if person is a newbie, how does he know the topic is hot. Search is not something new person is familiar with much as well. IMO it is about how the question was asked and yes if poster disapears, it is usually a bad sign but if he politely participate in his thread, there is nothing really wrong.

I not saying that a newbie should know what a hot topic is. I'm simply commenting that yes, certain topics get hot. You never see me jumping on someone for asking a question. Hot or not.
I agree it's how the question is asked. And if they disappear. I believe I said that they usually never post again on a troll thread.
We are all familiar with a search option. Every site has one. I'm not saying don't ask a question. I was just suggesting the search option.

OP It sounds to me like you were just asking an honest question. You got your answer and were very polite about it. As for those who were not so polite about there answers, it seems to me, if you fear a troll, rather than post a response you should just move on to another thread without posting.

OP you can get great info here I hope you don't take the responses of a few to represent the whole. Hope you have a great trip!

Although I know the answer is no, I can see where someone would wonder if you could since it is all Disney property. And I'm pretty sure if you stay at one of the universal resorts you can use the other pools at their other hotels.

The OP's question was an innocent and sensible question. For anyone who has traveled to places other than Disney--and I know that isn't the case for everyone on these boards--it is quite common for resorts with multiple hotels within proximity of one another to allow use of the facilities (including pools) by all guests.

It never ceases to amaze me how someone can know so many facts about "the happiest place on Earth" but so little about the sentiment behind the magic. :sad2:

Good to know. Personally, I do search first. I was just surprised at the responses to a question. Thanks for your info.:)

It never ceases to amaze me how people can think using another resorts pool is in any way ok. (other than sister resorts/DVC members, of course). The big sign by each one stating that the pool is for the exclusive use of that resorts' guests only might be the first hint.... This is why we will be at the Yacht Club instead of the Poly this summer. At least we know the only people using SAB are the ones staying at YC/BC. Same can't be said for the Poly, which is a shame.

Maybe they have never been to WDW, and maybe they are new to the dis boards. If they've never been to WDW, then they would not have seen the sign that says swimming is for exclusive use by guests of a particular resort.

I just want to say something here to all of you who responded to OPs post and jumped down her/his throat.
Take a breath people. Did you notice this is only their 3rd post, and quite possibly they haven't been to WDW before, and don't know the rules?
OP just asked a question politely. Some of the responses were way out of line, IMO.:sad2:

That's what I was thinking.

Why are there so many rude responses to the simple question??? Isn't this a forum for people to ask questions and share information? I think the question could have been answered just as simply with the facts and without the mean spirit and sarcasm.

Oh my, I am surprised with responses OP got. Instead of "Welcome to board" and explaining pool rules people jumped right on with rudeness. Seriously, not every new person is a troll, and not everyone reads Disney Guides before joining here. Why not to give a newbie a chance. I will not be surprised if OP will never post again. :sad2:

Very well said Kelly.

perfectly said. this is pretty much what i was saying in my first post.

I too was wondering about the rudeness. op theres a lot of great info here. i hope these replies dont scare you off.

I'm glad you spoke up! I'm just reading this thread now and was really surprised by people's attitude on someone so new!

Ask a polite question to make sure of the rules before-hand and get bitten...

Nice way to welcome someone new! NOT!!

It is not the question that makes these threads get locked, it is the answers.

As a moderator ... THIS. :)

I have no doubt the OP of this thread is genuine... but here's the thing... what makes a troll work is something completely within the collective control of the members of any community...

OUR REACTION to it...

Just something to think about today. :)

I hope my answer wasn't considered rude. I was disappointed that there were so many negative answers that I wanted the OP to know that there are activites at the resorts that were "allowed." OP, have a wonderful trip and welcome to the DISboards.

:)

I do not believe that your answer is one people are referring to. Yours was informational. You leave soon, right?! Have fun!

Nicely put CanadianGuy :) It can work throughout life, not just here on the DIS Boards.

The fact that the OP only had 1 or 2 posts when they posted the question is exactly what would cause me to answer in a more negative way (although I didn't answer in this thread). To me, anyone with 1 or 2 posts that jumps in with that as their first question on the board WITHOUT even mentioning "hey, it's my first trip, and I was wondering" kind of info, is more often than not a troll and looking to stir up trouble. It's very suspicious to say the least.

If that's not true of the OP, I apologize, but that is the way of the message boards here when topics are sensitive. And sadly there are people out there that post these kind of questions under new user names just for their own fun.

i'm sorry. but what is with everybody and not having enough posts? why is it that because you don't have 7,000+ posts you are automatically a troll. some of us do have lives to attend to outside of a message board. that is so obnoxious. it was a simple question. :confused3

It is better to tell the truth right away. Why cover it with sugar?
It is not allowed to pool hop and you can always wait on the trolls here to tell how to avoid or bend the rules.

No one is suggesting not telling the truth right away, and you don't have to 'cover it with sugar' to simply be polite.

It's all in how the question is answered.

1) You can give a straightforward, factual answer to the question: "Disney's policy prohibits pool-hopping."

2) Or, you can berate the questioner for not knowing that pool-hopping isn't allowed, or strongly imply that the very fact that they're asking the question means they're up to no good (i.e., trolling).

There are examples of both styles all over these boards, on many topics. The first is polite and informative, and leads to constructive discussion. The second is rude and unhelpful, and leads to unnecessary drama, and extra work for moderators. :)
