Visiting another resorts pool??

it is quite common for resorts with multiple hotels within proximity of one another
That's the key: in proximity. In many cases at Walt Disney World, the pools AREN'T in proximity of one another. Coronado Springs? Not near anything. Pop Century? Not within safe/allowed walking distance of anything. All Star Sports? Proximate to All Star Movies and All Star Music - and, as I stated originally, Guests of ANY All Star Resort may use ANY All Star Pool. Ditto for the Port Orleans resorts.

Now, sure, based on proximity one would think "Oh, well, Polynesian and Grand Floridian are walkable each other, I can swim at either pool". Walt Disney World says no. Ditto for Beach/Yacht Clubs and the Boardwalk - again, walkable, but WDW says no. Their house, their rules.

Yes, probably the Marriott Village at Little Lake Bryan properties allow their Guests to swim at any pool in the village. Then again, maybe not. They didn't when the hotels first opened (yes, I know for sure - I was the first person to stay in my room at the Fairfield Inn).

Yikes. Looks like a few people woke up with captain crunch spilled in the bed. It's okay, open the window - give the sheets a shake - and it's all good.

As a moderator ... THIS. :)

I have no doubt the OP of this thread is genuine... but here's the thing... what makes a troll work is something completely within the collective control of the members of any community...

OUR REACTION to it...

Just something to think about today. :)

Good post.

I will admit I've never once thought of pool hopping. That said, I can see where someone COULD get the impression that it's okay if they hadn't read that it wasn't, and hadn't been to disney before to read the signs. I'm sure once the OP arrived, they would have discovered the truth if they hadn't posted this probably now regretted topic (regretted due to behavior of some respondents). There is nothing wrong with asking questions, and we shouldn't punish people for doing so.

Proximity is relative and just because it isn't walking distance doesn't mean it's not close by enough for some.

There are 6 Sandals Resorts in Jamaica. You can stay at anyone on the island and "play" in all six. They have buses that takes you to the others daily. Some are only 5-15 minutes apart so it makes sense to play at those, others are a couple hours away which makes playing a little harder, but doable if you choose to. Maybe OP has been to Sandals.

Not picking a fight, just throwing this point of view out there.

But Disney doesn't even offer that - transportation between resorts (monorail and a few boats being exceptions).

Here's an idea...

KidsR#1 may I say, welcome to the boards !!!

You voiced a legitimate question that some may have seen/read before, you have been informed of the Mickey Rules for pools,(bad pool hopper bad slap slap)
Have a magical time on your vacation, just don't pool hop or you might be photographed in the Mickey jail

No one is suggesting not telling the truth right away, and you don't have to 'cover it with sugar' to simply be polite.

It's all in how the question is answered.

1) You can give a straightforward, factual answer to the question: "Disney's policy prohibits pool-hopping."

2) Or, you can berate the questioner for not knowing that pool-hopping isn't allowed, or strongly imply that the very fact that they're asking the question means they're up to no good (i.e., trolling).

There are examples of both styles all over these boards, on many topics. The first is polite and informative, and leads to constructive discussion. The second is rude and unhelpful, and leads to unnecessary drama, and extra work for moderators. :)

And in how many cases the Op's that were given very polite answers just became very angry because they didn't like the polite answers and were determent to pool hop no matter what. :rotfl:

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I didn't see a lot of 'rude' responses to the OP's question. A bit brusque perhaps but certainly not rude. Perhaps some were trying to be cute but their attempts failed miserably.
But generally speaking, the posts directly responding to the question weren't rude at all.
And I love it when someone posts a photo of the signage at the resort pools. Leaves little room for discussion...at least you would think so.

Yes.....but why assume the OP will do that before the answer is even given?

There's no justification for giving a rude or hostile answer to a straightforward "is it OK to...." question.

Refillable mugs and picky eaters wanting advice what to eat is the two topics that will start this frenzy of activity. No you cannot pool hop. TPTB might have a fit. I am not saying it's right or wrong just saying.

These threads often make me remember a little conversation I had on the monorail one night. Nicest lady next to me, we chatted a bit, it was her first trip other than a day trip she had taken as a child. She asked me a question, I answered and gave her some good tips that I had found helpful (many I had learned right here on the disboards). She was so appreciative and told me she wanted to share something she had found out and enjoyed doing that I might like to do. She told me to pool hop! Told me how she and her kids had had dinner at O'Hana one night and used the pool there but that their favorite pool they had tried out was at POR. She was staying offsite and by the standards on this board was on par with felons breaking the rules of their parole. But she was so nice and I realized that so often the folks breaking those rules are just trying to have fun, don't realize their offense and that if Disney would just put up fences accessed by room keys like they do at SAB and the Disneyland Resort hotels in California, this would all sort of go away. I've been at the Poly and BW when people were escorted out and I can for sure empathize with the sentiment of "enjoy the pool you paid for" but in the end, its been rare I have not been able to find a chair at my resort pool or have sat there knowing that I was amongst imposters out to ruin my day.

I am sorry but there were a few snarky comments. I answered early on and hope mine wasn't seen that way. But more than anything on this thread, I am pleased that for the most part, people are seeing this question for what it was: innocent.

my daughter just turned 3 a week before our trip, can I still say she is 2???

Just kidding.:woohoo:

Safest bet would be to do a search on a topic first.

Someone new to message boards might not know all the ins and outs of one.
I'm sure the search function could be used for any topic on this board since most topics have probably been discussed ad nauseam over the years.

Thanks for all the replies. It was an honest question, but now I see the light.

My search strings didn't find the other threads about visiting pools, but I didn't use the "pool hopping" term.

Next month will be our first trip to WDW, and this forum has been a great wealth of knowledge for planning our trip.

Thanks

Don't let the light blind you, have fun here and post away

Pool hopping seems to be a bad topic, maybe you could ask about Extra Magic Hours, key word "Magic" feel the love people

Once again welcome to posting and have a good time here

That's what the boards are for, to ask questions, have a great time at disney!!

If you are someone who has never been to WDW before, you may not know that pool-hopping is prohibited, therefore, you might ask that question on the dis board.

Also if you you've never been there, you may not even realize how close or how far apart the resorts are. Maybe you just know that they have many resorts, and you were wondering about pool access at the various resort.

Sorry that some posters were so rude to you.
