Even when I uncheck the box to receive updates on sales and promotions, I still get them. And when they don't listen to my request, I go to the link to unsubscribe and wait the "7 to 10 days" to be removed to no avail. I am still not removed. It takes repeated attempts, and even then, every once in a while, I will receive a random email from a company I specifically told to stop sending me their junk.

Kohls, I am looking at you right now. And NBC, my NYC trip was over 2 years ago (I reserved NBC Studio Tour tickets online) I still get them after repeated attempts to squelch it.

OK, so who's on your unsubscribe list that won't go away?

philosophy - they never ever stop and unfortunately, I have them coming to two different email addresses.

Sort of related, I had internet through bellsouth 15 years ago. When I changed services I auto-forwarded my bellsouth email to my new email and all these years later I STILL get emails to that address. I guess they never clean out their files :D

Our local newspaper. I have tried several times to unsubscribe but nope, every day I get the email saying the paper is available online.

I have a special email address just for my online purchases. This is not the SPAM email address, which everyone should have just for SPAM.

I need to check the store emails for confirmation of purchases and delivery confirmation. If they will NOT unsubscribe me from other stuff, it all, at least goes to this separate email account that I don't check except when making purchases.

What I notice is that sometimes companies (or me by accident) opt in to multiple types of e-mails sent. So if I unsubscribe to one it doesn't necessarily unsubscribe me to all. Took me a while to even realize that for my personal e-mail.

An example-Southwest

I get Southwest Click 'N Save e-mails related to sales going on and activity on my Rapid Rewards Account related to flights and whatnot, etc. I also get Rapid Rewards Shopping and those are related to only to activity for earning points through Southwest's shopping portal. Two different e-mail addresses that Southwest is using (southwestairlines@iluv.southwest(.com) and noreply@rapidrewardsshopping(.com)) respectively. Southwest Click 'N Save has an unsubscribe button but that won't opt me out of Rapid Rewards Shopping. To do that I have to go into my account and update my preferences.

That's just an example, most often I just need to go and unsubscribe (as annoying as it is) to each of the various e-mails sent to me.

Kohls - I haven’t unsubscribed, but I’ve stopped reading them. I made a folder and just shove them all in it now, so if I do have reason to order from them, I can find the latest coupon. But none of the e-mails are convincing me to look at their stuff, since I no longer pay attention to them, so the over-advertising has completely backfired.

I had that ... and now it has some how morphed into 4 emails. Don't ask ... because I don't even know how I got here! One is my personal that only family and friends have. But all the rest are for work, school, doctors, and businesses. And my Type A can't just ignore the red circle telling me I have an email.

Add them to your blocked sender list.

I just started noticing this on my MacBook. I am slow to the game sometimes so hopefully that will do the trick. But NBC put me in there whole family of companies. >:(

I just wish businesses would respect the notification to bug off.

We visited a WW2 museum in New Orleans four years ago, and I’ve unsubscribed numerous times over the last three years to no avail.

Bob’s Stores, Dicks, JJill, Loft to name a few. It seems that some stores send two or three emails per day. Why?

By far the worse though was back in 2011 when I taught one trimester at Kings Point Military Academy to fill in for a faculty member for one course. I had to undergo all kinds of hoops to work there and essentially was employed as a federal subcontractor in order to teach (one class for three months). I ended up on a list of subcontractors and got emails and phone calls for years and years. I still get them, just not as much. They wanted me to teach again and I passed specifically because I just couldn’t bear to get those emails and calls again, and all my personal information published to the www in my contract. It was so bad. No amount of pleading would get me off the list.

I ordered 90 pairs (3 months worth) of contact lenses from 1-800-Contacts. I keep getting these urgent emails saying, "You are almost out of contacts! Order now before you run out!" Um, no. I don't wear them everyday. I only wear them on days when I have to go into my classroom because wearing a mask fogs up my glasses. I can deal with it at the grocery store, but I prefer to wear contacts in the classroom. They send me several messages a week and they keep getting more urgent. "You are out of contacts! You need to order now!" No I don't. I haven't even used half of my first order yet. It's annoying that they keep telling me something that's not true! I'm about to unsubscribe them.

Most reputable companies will take you off their list. They don't want to annoy you to the point of losing your future business. But there are others that use your "unsubscribe" selection as proof their emails are getting to someone and not only do they continue to send them, but sell your email address to other, like-minded websites.

I agree with just blocking sender from your email. It's super easy to do. Just make sure you are really DONE with the company.

Gunbroker.com. Made 1 purchase and because I see my emails at work and I don't have my login password, I can't unsubscribe at work.

I could do it at home, but that's 13 hours from when I see the email after 4 billion other thoughts and stress throughout the day, I don't think to pull it up at home and unsubscribed. Then the next morning in my emails, there it is. Dang, I have to unsubscribe to it and I'll not think about it again tonight.

The Children's Place. My kids are 16 and 20 now. They don't fit into your clothes anymore. I have unsubscribed so many times but the emails still keep coming. At this point, they must be hoping I keep them in mind once I have grandkids (hopefully not for a number of years still!)

All of this is against the law in Europe. Under our GDPR Privacy Law, all email marketing
must have an unsubscribe option
Companies are not allowed to add you to multiple lists
Companies can only use your email address for the specific purpose for which it was obtained, ie if you gave your email to a company to buy a product or service, they can not automatically add you to email marketing lists
If you unsubscribe from a list they have to remove your contact details and are not allowed to add you to another list
Companies can not force you to sign up to email marketing as requirement of purchase
Email marketing has to be opt in not not opt

If a company is reported for breach of these rules they can face fines of up to €20 million.

Huh. Children's Place in Canada dropped me off their mailing list (twice) when there was no purchase after a year.
