Disney's ART OF ANIMATION RESORT Thread

The last 2 times I stayed there (June and October 2023) - I thought the safe didn’t work. I entered a pin like I had in the past but would always get an error code - never called about it not working but I did see where there a request for a cc, but wasn’t interested enough to try to pay for it so I didn’t use it.

Just got back from a great week at AoA. Maybe I missed this, but when did they start charging you to use the in-room safe?
Returned yesterday from a stay in a Finding Nemo suite, used the safe, and did not pay for it. It was a normal, 4-digit code type of hotel safe.

We were in a Cars suite and the pin pad mechanism even had a credit card stripe reader built in. I just assumed it was going to charge me something to create a pin, but didn't give it a try.

UPDATE: I called Guest Services and they confirmed that some rooms have an option to use a credit card in lieu of a regular PIN code for the safe. So @bluezy was correct. If I had spent more than 30 seconds looking at it, I probably would have figured that out.

I have an August trip planned, Lion King Suite. Last time I stayed at Art of Animation was 2021, during COVID, so I'm not sure if things are the same.

With buses, I know I need to be at the bus stop 90 minutes before early entry. (This worked really well last summer at All Star Music) Is it the same for the SKyliner?

For early entry at DHS at 8:30am, I arrive at Skyler at 7am? And I should expect it start loading at 730am?

THanks for your help

Yep, that will work. It may start operation a bit before 7:30, as well. You will transfer at the CBR station.

Yes, get to Skyliner about 90 minutes before EE opening. And don't be discouraged if the line looks crazy long. It moves quickly. When we were there in June 2022, we got in line at about 6:55 a.m. (for an 8:00 EE at DHS) and the line was wrapped all the way back to Bldg. 3 at Pop (I believe they now have a line from each resort and CMs merge it at the station). I thought we'd never get there in time. We actually were through security and standing in line at the tapstyles at DHS by 7:22. They let us in at about 7:40. I don't know exactly what time Skyliner started running that day, but it was definitely running when we walked out of our building at about 6:45.

I either didn't know or forgot that Art of Animation allows dogs.

What is this like? Are there a lot of dogs? Noise issues? Rooms that smell like dogs? :crazy2:

I'm not comfortable around dogs and I hate being judged for it. If I'm likely to run into one dog on the way to pool, I can deal. If I'm going to being dodging dogs frequently, I am going to miserable and possibly panicky depending on how well their owners exert control. Should I be looking for a different resort?

I stayed there 2 Junes ago and i didnt even know they allowed dogs. So if that was going on then, thats how affected i was by it.

I just just just saw however, on a different thread on the just got back thread that someone had one near them in the cars section, and got the impression thats where the dog section is. So maybe stay at a different section? When we stayed there, you could book general or by section (we booked LK)

We've stayed at AoA a few times since dogs were allowed. One trip (Nemo suite) I only saw 2 dogs being walked outside but didn't notice any in the building (at least not on our floor/wing). One trip (LK suite) I saw a woman carrying her little dog in the hallway twice but never heard the dog. The last trip (June 2022, LK suite), there was a little dog barking constantly in the room across the hall from us while we were bringing our luggage to our room. I'm sure s/he heard us and that's what got the barking started. I noticed the barking stopped once we were finished bringing everything in the room (I had to stand by our door to listen -- it wasn't loud enough that I could easily hear it through our closed door). But as soon as we'd open our door the barking would start again. I could tell the dog was sitting right at the door. We went to lunch and when we came back, there was no barking. Never heard anything else the rest of the week. I'm guessing that family checked out the day we arrived. I have never noticed a dog smell in any of our rooms. If you're concerned about that, you can request a deep cleaning prior to arrival. Since there's not carpeting in the rooms at AoA anymore, there's much less of a chance that there will be a dog smell in a room even if a dog has just stayed there. Just keep in mind that service animals can be in *any* room at any hotel -- not just at dog-friendly resorts, so there can be dogs at any resort.

I'm sure it's been answered somewhere here, but I can't find it. How are the murphy bed and sleeper sofas (specifically in the cars suites, but any experience is helpful)? Comfortable enough for mid-to-late 30 year old's for 5 nights? Hard? No support, etc?

Our experience was in Lion king but same thing, Murphy bed was very comfortabe but sleeper sofa not so much but my 21 yr old was fine to have it all for himself

We just got back from our 6th stay in a suite at AoA. As the PP said, the murphy bed is very comfortable. It's a normal mattress. Our 24yo DD and her boyfriend had no trouble sleeping on it (other than they're used to a king-size bed at home). Our 19 yo slept on the sofa bed and said that it was "good enough" and that it was better than any other hotel sofa bed she's ever slept on but not as good as a regular bed. It does have a fairly thick mattress for a sofa bed. This has been our experience with every stay over the years -- murphy bed is a normal bed so there are no issues (unless you prefer a softer or more firm mattress than what they provide) and the sofa bed is tolerable, but not super comfortable. None of our kids have had a problem sleeping on the sofa bed (all teens and early 20s when they slept on it). It seems like "young" people don't have a big issue with the sofa bed. You can call housekeeping and have them put a mattress topper on the sofa bed if it's too uncomfortable for whoever ends up with that bed. You won't be able to fold it up once the mattress topper is on it, though, if that's an issue.

Are you sure they were charging the credit card or was it just using the card as the "key"? I saw a post on a FB group where someone mentioned that they heard Disney was now requiring a credit card for using the safe. People who are there now said that the credit card swipe was used to open the safe but no charge for doing that -- just a different method of unlocking the safe rather than entering a PIN. Did you see a sign that indicated there would be charges? Someone also said that their non-Disney hotel in the DS area used that same method -- swiping a credit card rather than entering a PIN to open the safe. It also seemed like most of the rooms at AoA still had the traditional PIN but a few had the credit card. Maybe they're testing it out or maybe just slowly converting. I'd much rather have a PIN than needing to pull out my credit card every time I want to open our safe.

That makes sense, and it was probably what that poster was referring to instead of a charge. Thanks for clearing up the confusion.

You shouldn't need a credit card to open/close a safe. Regular hotels that use this (Marriott's, some RCL ships) and it's any card that has the swipe on the back. We've always used a card we take with us like our drivers license or (if others in the room also need the safe) we'd leave like our AAA card hidden somewhere to use that.

Just to update everyone, our LK suite (rm. 0532) still had a traditional safe in June....just set up a PIN. And also for the record, that room still had a traditional mini-fridge as opposed to a beverage cooler.

Hi I'm starting to plan a week in mid November and usually stay at ASMo. this time it will be myself, my elderly mom whose bucket list includes seeing Disney's Christmas decorations at least once, and my son and his wife. We're thinking of a suite this time so we can stay together. I've been hoping for ASMu suites but none seem to be available for that week with the free hopper offer. It's not that much more for AoA and I think the gondola would be a plus. I was looking for what room to ask for in the Lion King section and there doesn't seem to be very many accessible rooms with a roll in shower. The views from those rooms look awful as well, and theres not much in any of the sections. Are they as bad as they look? Has anyone had experience staying in one of these? thanks!

I don’t find the views matter much with the Suites because there are no patios or balconies, just windows and it’s not motel style like ASMu. Request building 6, and you’ll have landscape or lake views. In building 10, you may end up with a parking lot view.

I don't know exactly how many accessible rooms there are at AoA, but I know it's a small percentage. When we were in building 6, first floor, right next to the main entrance, I know there was an accessible room right next to ours because housekeeping had the door propped open 2 different days when we walked by. I couldn't see if there was a roll-in shower, though as I didn't walk into the room. We've stayed at AoA 6 times (5 times in the LK suites) and our view has never had any affect on our enjoyment. Even the year we had a parking lot view. We were on the 4th floor that year so the reality was, if we wanted to see the parking lot, we had to walk over to the window and look down. Our eye level view was trees. Our most recent stay was again a parking lot view on the 1st floor of bldg 10. it's really not that big of a deal. We didn't have the curtains open very often (trying to keep the room cool) and there was other garden areas to look at. The room in bldg 6 that had the accessible room had a courtyard view but all we could really see was the thick vegetation. It really felt like we were in a jungle. And that was fine. It definitely helped keep our room cool during the day *and* if we did open the curtains, no one walking through that area could see in our room. We've also had some lakeview rooms, but again, we had the curtains closed most of the time to keep the hot sun out, so the view just really isn't critical for us. At least you wont have views of a rooftop a/c unit like some DVC resorts have. :) But seriously, don't worry too much about the view, it's not really that bad from any of the rooms.

There appears to be 5 suites with the roll in shower in the Lion King building. I have stayed in one on the 2nd floor with a courtyard view. I think the other suites are also all courtyard view.

Keep in mind that the table bed and sofa bed are double beds, the only queen is in the bedroom. In the AllStars Music suites all the bed (bedroom, table bed and pull down bed) are queens.
