@ClaraOswald I always park in the surface parking lot. There are a lot of trees that drop junk on the car if you're near one. Personally, I love the lot because I don't have to cross the street (like VGC) and I can enter the main lobby entrance which is always decorated special for the season.

I would try not to park outside in the direct sunlight if possible in the summer….

Is the only non-sunlight option valet?
I’ll say yes. Let’s say self park like most hotels is out in the elements. There are many trees in the large self park lot. If on the roof lot, you can strategy park so that the Fantasy tower gives some morning shade. (Like getting the top of Mickey & Friends/Pixar Pals or even Toy Story lot. It’s outdoors. (Valet at the Disneyland Hotel has an underground area).

You’re not out in the middle of the Mojave Desert here. Even WDW has mostly surface parking.

I did a day trip to DLand once in October, leaving my suitcase in the car…. and my dress shoes (which were packed in the suitcase) got so hot that the next day rocks were absorbing into the sole….

I mentioned this because I am about to run the shoes over to a shoe repair person to replace the soles….

October weather always seems brutal there.

We don't really leave anything in our car while we are there, thankfully. We also probably won't even use our car the whole week. At most, maybe 1 outing if we feel like getting out of the Disney bubble. I want to go to the beach one of these days but haven't convinced my husband yet. He doesn't want to deal with beach parking. And doesn't think any Uber drivers would want to do a beach pick-up.

I wish valet parking wasn't so insanely expensive per day.

Do regular hotel guests use the DVC pool? Is it hard to get a lounge chair by the DVC pool in the summertime? I assume it's probably difficult to get a chair at the main DLH pool area in the summer, right?

Dumb question but if there are no chairs...where do you put your towels? On the ground??
It’s will have to be extremely busy to ever have that happen at the Palette Pool, many guests thinks it’s DVC private anyway with the breezeway as a blocker.

Quite a few loungers but there are rows of chairs under the colored shade cover. (Don’t think the Steam Boat been steaming lately.).

I've always thought that the valet parking should be credited the cost of self parking for DVC. Of course, Disney is going to go for the profit.

Regarding the pools - when I stayed in the Garden studio last summer, there were always plenty of seats near the palette pool. I've never used the pools at either hotel, but I would put my towel and belongings on the ground if necessary.

@Wedgeout Steamboat Willie was steaming a couple weeks ago. I can never get enough of that. Absolutely love it.
