My favorite (not so favorite) pushy guide story is from when I toured Riviera the first time. I was in Florida for parathyroid surgery (I had it done at a hospital in Tampa) and chose to recuperate at SSR. I felt well enough the next day to pop over to Riviera to tour, but was still within the 24 hour anesthesia window where they advise you to not make any major financial decisions. I was also in a moderate amount of pain and had an ice pack strapped to my neck

, but figured I could be in pain at Riv or in pain in bed, and I really wanted to see the rooms and that was my only opportunity to do so.
I made it very clear to the guide that while I was seriously interested in Riviera, I was within 24 hours of anesthesia, just wanted to tour as my husband wasn't with me, and I wouldn't make a financial decision like that on the spot. My mom and I were flying home the next day.
The guide kept pushing and pushing, ultimately offering to show up at 6am at SSR the next day before we checked out for our flight! ("You'll be out of your anesthesia window then! I'll bring the paperwork so you can sign right then and there!") He also called multiple times that afternoon to see if I changed my mind and wanted to meet him at 6am.
It left such an icky taste in my mouth that I HATED Riviera on that tour. I was so glad I went back and visited again later, and ultimately ended up buying my direct points there with a DL guide who was the exact opposite of the pushy FL one.
It is unfortunate that some of the newer guides have such pushy sales tactics. I think it really cheapens the brand. If I hadn't been very serious about purchasing, I would have run far away from DVC.
