The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Hooray! Several weeks ago I added a notation requesting inner courtyard view and off the main lobby ("bear face") to our courtyard view bunk bed room reservation. You are the first person that has said there are bear face bunk bed rooms. We've got our fingers and toes crossed hoping for a little pixie dust... I've already talked to my son about rubbing Humphrey's nose for a little extra magic. I plan to help him find the totem BEFORE heading to the front desk to check in. ;)

I'm glad to hear this too! We have requested inner courtyard and have a bunkbed room. Although with only 3, I wonder how likely we all are to get our request....

I would imagine it would depend on your check in date. If someone else has checked in for a week a day or two before you there may be none available. Here's wishing you the best of luck. Either way you will love the Lodge.

We just got in last night from our 6 night stay at the Wilderness Lodge. It was awesome. We had requested a first floor bunkbed room near the pool. We got a first floor inner courtyard bunk bed room that was close to the pool but not right on the pool deck area. It was great, and I was glad that we weren't too close to the pool as it was quite loud quite late down there. We loved our room, it was close to the lobby, Roaring Forks, the buses and our patio was pretty quiet and kinda private. It was room # 2113 (but it was first floor). I would absolutley ask to stay in that area again... except for the fact that I want to stay in the concierge level next.... one can dream, right?

We ate at Whispering Canyon for dinner one night, and Roaring Forks for breakfast twice and dinner once. It was all very good, I would recommend both places. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and Mousekeeping was great, our room was clean and we had towel animals twice. The pool was awesome and the lifeguards are excellent.

So, we are hooked on the Wilderness Lodge now. I am hoping to get back down there in April/May with my mom and son (my step son is going during April school break w/ his mom and her extended family and my son had a breakdown that he won't be going again too, so my mom offered to go 50/50 on a trip with me and my son :goodvibes . I know my son will go w/ his dad someday, but they have little babies at their house and they said they won't go till the youngest is 5.) I bought an AP in anticipation of going again, and hoping to get a good AP rate for April/May. We pretty much are going to try to figure out when is a good time to go based on crowds projections/cheap flights/work schedules. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out.

We're only 3, also. But I think you're probably more likely to get it than us. We arrive very late and I understand the later you arrive the lower your chances of getting your room requests. Any room will suit us just fine but it would be great to have a bear face room...

We just changed our ressies yesterday to WL villas with the AP rate. Short trip- only 11/17-11/19. We are paying $229 for a studio. They only had bunkbeds or concierge available and our kiddos are still too little for bunk beds. Last year we stayed in the lodge on the first floor near Roaring Forks and the otter pond. It was perfect! Will we be disappointed with the villas?

Where would be the best area to requst; I am taking my 77 y.o. mom and would like to be close to Roaring Forks and the lobby?

I rebooked my trip today with WL....my heart was breaking not to be back there again. I love the lodge and hope my && y.o. mother does too. We are going on a mother/daughter trip to celebrate life. My dad passed away in april from alzheimers and I know he would have loved the lodge; so we are going down on his birthday and celebrating. That may seem odd to some, but grief is just a crazy thing and whatever it takes to hhelp heal..you do it. I booked a courtyard view for mom, she loves looking out at the lake. I am sooo excited!

I'm sure the answer is buried somewhere in this thread but I'll ask and hope I don't get clobbered over the head.... :)

What is so special about Bear Face rooms? They seem to be quite popular.

Also, my kids are 3.5 and 6 and would love bunk beds but do you think they are too young for bunk beds? Currently, we are booked into a standard room (9/7 to 9/13) but I've considered upgrading.

Also, Should we get an upper level room or a first floor room. Is the patio a lot larger than the balconies? Does being on the ground floor make it much easier to get to the pool and the lobby?

One more question, should we bring our own beach towels or are the ones provided pretty good for the pool?

Thanks in advance for all the help!!!

Why is it so hard to get in touch with concierge at WL? I've been calling for the last 2 days and at all different times of the day and no one answers the phone. I leave a message and don't get a call back. When I ask for the Old Faithful Club at the front desk, they claim to not know what that is! Has anyone else have this problem?

To Tinkerrn,
Honey, the only folks who might not understand are those who have not gone through it. My son and grandson just got back from 3 weeks in Scotland. They did the trip in honor of my dad, for whom they both were named. His dream was to go there so they went in his honor. I wish this trip to be all that you want it to be and may your mom find the peace, serenity, and beauty that we all love in the Lodge. :goodvibes

I think that's such a beautiful thing. I hope you really enjoy your trip.

I have not had any problems contacting the IPO office. The planners you work with are not in the actual lounge itself. They have an office over at the Poly (they plan for both resorts in that office). I have PMed you the contact information that I have for them (phone, fax and email). I hope that helps.

I know just how frustrating it is to not be able to get a response from the IPO. Last year while planning a stay at the Grand Floridian I just about canceled our entire stay over the complete and total lack of response. In the end, the visit itself was very good, it was just the pre-planning staff that left something to be desired.

Maybe it's a simple case of having the wrong contact information for the WL IPO and the information I PMed you will help you get through to the right people.

I really do feel your pain. It's no fun at all to pay so much money for a service and then have them ignore your requests rather than provide the services you paid for. Good luck!

....I completely forgot to post last week that AspiringCindy and her DFam were at WDW last week - they just got back yesterday....

I thank all you "vets" for this thread. We are heading to the Lodge 9/2 thru 9/7. We usually stay at the BC so I am thrilled to switch it up a bit. Last time I stayed at WL was 2001 (5 days after 9-11) It was so quiet at WDW that week.

This thread was soooo helpful to me. I check it often to see if there is anything new. I do have one question. Am I crazy for just getting a "standard" room? I have no special requests nor do I have the extra $$ to get a better view. I didn't have any requests except for a crib or pack n play. TIA :flower3:

Hello,
I just changed my rsort again fom BC back to WL. We haven't been here since 2003 but we loved it then. We are booked in a Courtyard view room. I have questions about the bear Face rooms. Are they Concierge level or Courtyard? What is so special about them besides being in the bear's face. iS it the view or something else. thanks.

....since you are heading there when school (for the most part) will be in full swing again, chances are you may get a complimentary upgrade. You can always [politely] ask if anything is available - nothing ventured, nothing gained...

For Diserwannabee, may the fairy and pixie dust both be there for you as you check in. They will probably be sooo happy to have someone who is not asking for something special, may they give you the moon....:goodvibes
