The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Also, my kids are 3.5 and 6 and would love bunk beds but do you think they are too young for bunk beds? Currently, we are booked into a standard room (9/7 to 9/13) but I've considered upgrading.

Also, Should we get an upper level room or a first floor room. Is the patio a lot larger than the balconies? Does being on the ground floor make it much easier to get to the pool and the lobby?

One more question, should we bring our own beach towels or are the ones provided pretty good for the pool?

Thanks in advance for all the help!!!

My dd's were 4.5 & 7 this past trip and we had bunk beds. My youngest actually slept in the top bunk the whole trip. The top bunk has railing completely around it, so I wasn't to concerned about her falling out. I also told her to wake me in the night if she needed to get down.

As far as upper floor or not is a personal choice. We have had both. I liked be in the upper floor, we had a partial view of the castle and could see the fireworks at night. We have had a ground floor, which I loved. We would sit on the patio and feed the ducks. The kids loved that. Also, it was very convenient to Roaring forks, pool and boat launch. So I would personally would love ground floor again. Again, that is just my preference, but I also really liked seeing the castle.

I would not bring my own towels. The towels at the pool are fine. One less thing to pack. Hope this helps.

For all those asking about the Bear Face Rooms, maybe this will help:

Bear Face rooms are just regular rooms, not Club Level. They face the inner courtyard.

I think the facination with them is just that they seem "mystical". You are technically staying the the Bear's Face!! The view you get when you are standing at the far side of the Lodge property looking toward the building.

There can be some very nice views from the Bear Face rooms.

A nice addition is that your room door opens to the lobby. You can just walk out and get the thrill of that beautiful lobby.

Bear Face location - When you walk into the lobby from the front of the lodge. Look straight ahead. The rooms you see on the 4th and 5th floors are them. There is also one on the 6th floor. There are about 15 rooms.

There are 2 king bed rooms and 3 bunk bed rooms. The rest are two queen bed rooms.

Well, can't think of any other info that might help. Hope this helps your planning. :thumbsup2

A quick and (hopefully!) easy question! :rolleyes1

How long does it take to travel on the boat from WL to the Contemporary?

Thank you!!! :thumbsup2

Hi,

We just came back from the Lodge last weekend. We took the boat over the the Contemporary for dinner at Cali Grill.

It took approximately 15 minutes to get from the Lodge to the Contemporary. Unfortunately, the boat went from the Lodge to Ft. Wilderness and then over to the Contemporary.

And, the boat is the small and open boat. So, if you were going for dinner and are dressed up it's not such a good thing. We were dressed and realized we should have taken a cab. Which by the way is only around $5.50.

In fact, we had drinks at The Wave the following night and when we took the cab back, at 12:30am, we were not charged at all. :woohoo:

We just returned from 8 great days at the WL, and one morning we took boat to Contemporary, and found no problem with the ride, with or without our good duds on. BTW, ours was a direct route from WL to Contemp...no swing over to campsites.

You lucky dog! ;)

I guess it all depends on the route for that day. I guess that just shows we can't count on hear say. Disney changes by the minute. Was your boat full? Ours was more full of Ft. Wilderness goers.

Wasn't so worried for the clothes but my hair. :scared1: It would look like this with the humidity. :rotfl:

Our boat was partially full. We actually were waiting to board the ferry directly to MK, but since the smaller boat to the contemporary was at dockside, we took that over instead. Understood about the hair. We actually were just heading to the parks, and wearing my Phillies cap:thumbsup2 (as was the case all week), so wind was not an issue, but I see where it might be. Not sure how they determine if boat will be making trip to Ft. Wilderness...perhaps it was already there before departing Lodge dock, but regardless, boat was not full at all!

The smaller Blue Flag Resort boats travel clockwise during the am, (WL-CR-Ft. Wilderness Campground) then switch to counter-clockwise in the afternoon. (WL-Ft Wilderness Campground-CR) Always ask the Captain of the boat they may take you to the location you want if there are no other guest.

I believe they started this new route when they started the Red Flag direct boats to the Magic Kingdom.

I always thought it was better when they had one of the resort boats traveling clockwise and the second resort boat traveling counter-clockwise.

I posted earlier, but I think it got buried...
We booked a studio at the WL villas. Will we be disappointed? We stayed on the first floor near the otter pond and R Forks last year and it was great! We will have two little ones with us, so no elevator is helpful with the stroller, too.

Thanks!

I don't think so....... If I could even stay in the lobby I would... You will be at WL......How can that be bad.....???? A bad day at Disney is better than any other place on earth. The fact that it is WL puts you over the top....:goodvibes Enjoy..........

We had a studio at the Villas in July. We loved it. There were just 2 of us but I think you will have plenty of room.

Where would be the best area to requst; I am taking my 77 y.o. mom and would like to be close to Roaring Forks and the lobby?

I rebooked my trip today with WL....my heart was breaking not to be back there again. I love the lodge and hope my && y.o. mother does too. We are going on a mother/daughter trip to celebrate life. My dad passed away in april from alzheimers and I know he would have loved the lodge; so we are going down on his birthday and celebrating. That may seem odd to some, but grief is just a crazy thing and whatever it takes to hhelp heal..you do it. I booked a courtyard view for mom, she loves looking out at the lake. I am sooo excited!

I highly recommend Room 1031. It was literally 20 seconds from Roaring Forks. The only problem is you would have to walk up the ramp to the lobby, but it wasn't bad. It's also close to the boat.

I think your trip is going to be wonderful. I think it will help you heal and it will help you make memories you'll have forever.

Hey Ya'll!

A couple of questions for you WL vets out there - we just booked club level for an Oct stay and I'm wondering if anyone has an updated menu of offerings in the lounge? I'm curious - and - trying to work up the courage to try the buffalo chili I had read about in some other posts! Any news?

Also, we are staying on Club Level for the first three days, then switching to a standard courtyard view for the remaining days (booked on bounceback). Is there any chance we will be able to keep the same room? Thoughts?

Thanks for any info you have to satisfy my curiosity! We love WL - it just edges out AKL in our family - so I can't wait to get there!!

Good morning,

There is no set menu for the Club Level. The items that are listed on the first page of this thread are a sample of what you will have. Now, the breakfast is the same as on the first page and are the snacks. You pretty much can count on that. For dinner, it's chef's choice for the night. I think they try to stay on a set schedule but sometimes they change. We were there a week ago and they had some Buffalo Bolognese. Ground buffalo with pasta. Not bad.

Don't worry about getting up the nerve to try buffalo, it tastes pretty much like good ground beef. You will be surprised.

As for the room, I'm not sure what will happen. The Club Level is on the 7th floor with room key access to the elevators. All the rest of the rooms are on the 6th floor down.

If you prefer to stay in the same room, I would let them know and they might be able to just put you in your regular Courtyard room and give you access to the Club Level. Otherwise you will be put in a 7th floor room and then moved to another room after you check out of Club Level. Also, check in is different for the two different levels. One upstairs and regular down stairs at the front desk. So, you may have to check out upstairs and then re-check in downstairs.

What are the dates you are staying? If they are not busy, you may be upgraded for the rest of your stay. But, if they are busy, you will be moved.

Hi everyone! We are celebrating our first Xmas at Disney and I just got ressies at VWL so I am going to cancel my GF ressie. I am still very excited but wanted to know if there were any special events on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Is Santa in the lobby on Christmas Eve? Any Xmas music, etc?

Anything special not to be missed? Thanks! :santa:

Good morning,

Thanks for the info! We will be there from Oct 16 to 19th on Club level, then two additional nights in the Courtyard view. Right now only honeymoon room is open for the last two nights, but our famly of 4 would be awfully cranky sleeping together ! :) I plan to keep checking, we do have some time before we get there, so maybe I can upgrade those last couple of nights.

I've talked to (well, emailed) the staff at the IPO a few times over the last day or so, and they are awesome! They have been so quick to respond usually within an hour or so! They booked the Wildlife Discovery Excursion for us today ! YEAY !

Now to decide on a few more meals and get those reserved.. and I'll be all set!

Subcribing! (Is that the rule when new to a thread?)
Just made res at VWL for 12/17-23, studio. My DH is quite the snorer and concerned about us not getting any sleep. I have a quote for a 1 BR at OKW for about the same price. I feel the Christmas experience at the lodge can't be topped. Any thoughts?:santa:

Ear plugs. The lodge at Christmas is amazing!

Ditto on the earplugs, but I would highly reccomend a sleep study for him . He may have sleep apnea and if so this could drasticly shorten his lifespan. it is a simple test and the treatment is dooable. Hubby had it done 11 yrs ago and I never hear a peep out of him now. he used to sound like a freight train when he slept. We love the Lodge by the way.
