The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Our trip to WDW in 07 was very hard.
DH is the most calm ,placid person you could meet but he was fit to be tied.
He swore never to go on holiday altogether again.
He has mellowed a wee bit but the fact we are gettin to go just the 3 of us in October is probably just as well.

...

You will have a much better time just the three of you. Maria and Jeff have planned a trip for just them. I like to think that we have not been too difficult when we travel with them but I know that they are looking forward to enjoying the World with just the three of them. I am a bit high maintenance, I like sit down meals, autographs adn Nuvo! Okay...Jeff and I are on the same alcohol page.....

. My MIL is not a pleasant person, and we rarely spend time around her anymore. She always favored my son over my daughter, which still is a big issue. My sister gets along very well with her and spends more time with her than my DH, my kids or me. Course, none of us care to be around my sister either. :rotfl:
:sad2:

You know Ann, I thought of this when I got your Christmas photo. I saw those two beautiful children and wondered how in the world any grandparent could willingly turn their back on them. I know your parents more than make up for Ron's, but I know it still hurts.

All I know today is that Jessica got out of surgery in the wee hours of the morning. She is in the surgical/trauma ICU and I don't know when they might be moving her to a step down unit. I'm planning on heading down to the hospital after work, if for no other reason than to get an update. I know they won't let me in to the ICU to see her, but I'm hoping to at least speak with her Dad to see what the doctors are thinking.

Thank gooness shse is out of surgery. i am looking forward to promising news for her.

Buddy is more angry that Jeff's family is not involved as much as he thinks family should be than Marisa adn jeff are. he does say that means more for us but he would have the entire bunch here all of the time so he really cannot understand.

If you saw on FB, I'm home. We are getting major SNOW here - abt 5 inches so far and still pouring down. They think tomorrow will be pretty icy so it was best to get home today. I'm doing well. Just the adventure of driving home in the slush, getting lunch and a RX, and getting in the house was tiresome  My dogs did SO GOOD though. I was very non reactive when I came in so they didn't get too wound up. Harley my baby is curled up next to me in the chair like normal and all is well. They have loved playing in the snow and I can see it out the windows from my chair. Beautiful!

.

I saw teh snow on teh news, Crazy!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I finally heard from Greg and he is doing well. He is staying with friends tonight, so he won't be alone. I guess his doctors wanted him to have supervision for the next 24 hours. Greg seems to think whatever they removed is a cyst, but they still sent it in for testing. He'll get those results Tuesday. Again, thank you all!

I know that Greg is fine today but I worried about you. it had to have been horrifying that you were not able to be with him. :grouphug:

Actually it's not too bad today. Because we have a wind break from another set of townhouses in the neighborhood the snow isn't too bad in the parking lot. We do have some interesting drifts between cars and in yards though.

Crazy winter!!!!!!!!!!

Hey y'all,

Busy day with yucky weather. Little bits of sleet this afternoon. It wasn't cold enough to even stick but people still could not drive. I was late picking up Alexis because of it & then she burst into tears because I was late & another kid had thrown up on her coat! Ugh.

!

You all need this vacation I think!

Michelle- I hope the little guy is better today! Just know that while the kids do notice I have found that they are not as affected as we are. They manage to take it as it comes.

Dinner last night was chicken parm and fettucini. Welby made us dinner, which was a Godsend, i have been fighting that cold, sore throat thing and after we got home I did nothing. Buddy slept all day so i was in front of the TV. There is plenty left so we are having it again this evening.

Morning all! I'm getting ready to head to bowling in a little while. Should be fun!

Alan and I are going out for Valentine's tonight. Don't know where or what, but it will be fun to just go out!

Are any of you planning anything fancy for Valentine's dinner on Sunday? I'm kind of stumped. Not sure what to do. My kids are requesting artichokes, so that's a maybe. Any suggestions? I'm just not feeling it this year.

Nancy- I hope you and Buddy feel better.

Glynis- Hope you bowl good.

Laura-Greg is in my prayer. Hope everything turns out ok.

Becky- Love the food porn looks awesome.

Ann- You are such a good daughter you take such good care of your parents. your teaching your kids good habits.

Aimee- So glad your home but rest rest rest my friend.

Kat and Sheryl- you both have a fun and safe trip.

Hubby has a coworker that he grew up with went home from work to find his wife had passed away in the bathroom. Think she had a heart attack she was 47 kinda hit hubby hard as that is my age :scared1:
Everyone have a good day and :grouphug: to all

Sheryl -- Good luck with the packing! If you don't get to shop for those shirts, don't worry. The gift shops will have plenty of apparel available for purchase. Every time we go, no matter how well we plan, we always end up having to buy something.

Hubby has a coworker that he grew up with went home from work to find his wife had passed away in the bathroom.

Wow, Laurie. I am so sorry.

Glynis -- We don't usually do anything special for Valentine's Day. I am sure you will come up with something!

Nancy -- I hope you're feeling better.

Michelle -- I hope Zachy is better today too.

I feel a lot better today. I had my zumba class this morning, which always helps. I think I am making pizza for dinner tonight.

Thanks all. I have learned not to let my situation bother me to much anymore. Like Michelle the important thing is protecting the kids, and not let them be hurt. Just have a hard time understanding some peoples actions or lack of.

---------

I will most likely go to my parents to do their laundry today. Dinner will be either baked chicken or pork chops.

Have a great day.

You are such a good daughter.

I hope you and Buddy feel better real soon. Take care!

Not doing anything special. Doug has a 2 pm matinee of the play and then the cast party after. He did just come in and wanted me to check my email. He had sent me an Amazon gift card so I could buy some more books for my Kindle. He said he thought that would last longer than flowers. ;)

Laura ~ any word from Greg this morning? Prayers are surrounding him for a good result. I so wish I had a Zumba class around here. I want to try it.

Becky ~ You really do need to open a restaurant. Your food - "just sandwiches" - are amazing. I would be so ashamed for you to see mine.

Aimee ~ I am hoping you are resting. Every day is just going to get better and better, but still NO Taco Bueno. Not yet sweetie!!

Sheryl ~ I am so glad to see you excited for your trip. Poor A, she is having a bad time, bless her heart.

Laurie ~ how awful about your DH's co workers wife. So young, oh MY!!

Kat ~ I know you have already left but, safe travels my friend.

Guess what??!! The sun is shining today. It is cold out, but the wind isn't blowing and the sky is a beautiful blue. I really need this today. I was in such a funk and I really think it was because I haven't seen the sun in weeks. But for today I will take it. YEA!!!

Tonight is dress rehersal, full makeup and last run through before the big opening night tomorrow. So hopefully this will be the last night of being alone. I am SO ready to get my DH back. I don't share real well - can ya tell? We do have a basketball game tonight but I am staying home to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I can't wait till they start. Are you all going to be watching them?

WFDT ~ Tomato & Roasted Pepper veggie burger on a flat bun, sweet potato chips and milk.

Morning Y'all,

Still sipping coffee when I should be filling up suitcases. :rolleyes1

Laura, I'm so glad you heard from Greg & all's well! :goodvibes

Yes I know all those shops will be calling me! I try to allow myself only one item, I can usually do that. Unfortunately going into any shop with Alexis is just a total purging of the wallet!;)

Lauri, I'm sad for your DH's friend. :sad1:

Nancy, Sorry you're feeling bad! That Welby is a sweet neighbor to have!

Becky, It's really funny that you fixed that particular sandwich. I sat up in bed this morning, to see that cover & sandwich on my night stand. It was calling to me, bright & early! Your's looks every bit as beautiful as the magazine cover! ( The packing is getting more & more last minute as we speak!)

I hope Kathy & Johnny are having a smooth flight. It's still raining & we had sleet over night. Some places north of the lake are getting snow this morning.

Valentine's Day food will be so fancy for us! Dairy Queen & probably Cracker Barrel for dinner! :rotfl:

Oh I forgot: Aimee so glad you are home curled up with your pups!! I just saw pictures of Dallas & Ft Worth! Oh my I can't believe the snow! That must have been a scary ride home. Feel better quickly!

Quick fly by....Im just away tae buy the winning Euro Lotto ticket.

£113.000.000 !!! :cool2:

BBL.....maybe.

Sendin love and strength to youse that need it.

Laurie- that's a really horrifying and sad story.

Glynis- I'm not feeling Valentine's Day at all this year either. I usually do a craft and baking project in the week leading up to a holiday with Zachy and I haven't done any of that this week. Its taking all my strength to help him make a card for Mike later today. Mike is on call this weekend so we won't go out and I don't really care. I thought about making a nice dinner on Sunday night but haven't gotten past the thinking about it stage. Maybe a nice dessert at this point. I did by him a card and small gift weeks ago so I'm not a completely horrible wife but I don't know what it is but I just can't get into it this year.

Dinner tonight will be lemon oregano lamb with a feta tabouleh and roasted brussel sprouts.

Happy Friday Friends!!:cool1::cool1:

I have been lurking and keeping up on the FB email...I can't seem to get anything accomplished. I guess it is just the winter blues.....though we have had warm (30's!!) days and sunshine, no snow for over a month.

Gretchen--My prayers have been with Hailey and her therapist...any news on how she is doing? How is Hailey handling it, I am sure she misses her. If I can do anything let me know!

Laura--I am glad that Greg made out so well. You are such a strong women!!

Nancy--I am glad that Welby brought you over dinner. I hope you are feeling better soon, glad that Buddy made out well!

Sheryl--Have a great trip, safe travels!!

Aimee--Glad you are home with the pups...rest and NO tacos!!

Ellen--I am just loving my kindle....when I can get it out of Ross' hands...I have raised a reader which is wonderful...but this sharing thing we need to work on, lol.
What are you reading right now....I am always looking for suggestions! Glad you are getting some sunshine!

Glynis--I hope you had fun bowling!
Enjoy your night out with Alan!!

I have missed a bunch....I mean well and I do lurk every day and pray for all of you! It sometimes seems that by the time I have read through I am out of time to post as something around here needs my attention, lol.

Ross tests tonight for his 2nd degree brown belt....very exciting! I am a nervous wreck, lol. I can't let him know that as he isn't nervous at all.

Supper for Ross is his usual before any big sport moment....1 sweet potato 3 scrambled eggs with cheese and 1 piece of multi grain toast with PB.
We have to drop him at 6:30 to practice, his group tests at 7:30 and the ceremony is anytime after 8pm, if they are running on time etc.

Kris will get take out while we wait to go in for the ceremony, and I will have tums I think as I am to nervous to eat, lol!

I will be back later to post the results and check in!!

No valentine meal for us. Sunday is Chinese New Years. We will celebrate that with my neighbors and have a game night.

Michelle sorry you aren't feeling well. How do you make your tabouleh?

Sheryl Get packing! A will have you for dinner if you don't get packed.

Nancy How is Buddy doing? Sorry you are feeling poorly?

Vickie Good luck on the lotto pixiedust:

Good Luck Ross!! :cool1:

Knock 'em dead, break a leg, twist a belt or whatever is right to say. Hopefully I have you covered. :woohoo: :cheer2:

Nothing special here unless someone from church happens to do something. If we don't have any meals brought on Sun, we'll do takeout.

Oh, I hope it goes well!!! Good luck to him!!

If you happened to hear, we got 12.5 INCHES of snow yesterday!!!! The MOST snow DFW has ever seen. It's gorgeous and fun and now all melting. DH made a snowwoman complete with one of my bras

And I got a full 8-9 hours of sleep last night uninterrupted. It was fantastic.

Tonight's dinner is :confused3 probably take out from somewhere again. I can't wait to watch the Olympics tonight.

Laura - glad Greg's surgery went well and that he has friends to stay with. Prayers that all tests are normal.

Michelle - sorry that Zachy is sick - I hope he makes a quick recovery.

Nancy - how did Buddy make out with his surgery? I hope you are feeling better.

Lauri - condolences to your husband's coworker. That must be very difficult.

Ellen - I'm glad thar you are finally getting some sun. I hope it hangs around for a while for you. I hope your husband "breaks a leg"!! You know, I've been so wrapped up in football that I just realized last night that the Olympics start this evening!! And yes, we'll be watching.

I don't know what we'll be doing for Valentines Day. My daughter just broke up with her boyfriend/fiance, so I don't want to go all out right now. We still need to get together with our DIL and celebrate her birthday which was this past Monday, so maybe we'll do a combo thing.

We did get some snow at the house earlier, nothing accumulated, but I'm at work and didn't get to see it.
Bob's home so he's in charge of dinner. I don't know what it will be though. Thankfully he's a good cook and he likes to try different recipes.

Laura ~ I wanted to let you know that I just heard from Jay and he has recieved your package. He wanted me to tell you and the kids -

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your kindness. Your thoughtfulness make my days over her really worth it.
Thanks again,
Jay

Laura, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to do this for him. You are a great friend.

I'm at work peoples!!! :woohoo: The main roads aren't too bad, side roads still need a little work. Just have to be careful driving, some of the roads are "missing" lanes and some of the ramps have no merge to them, on or off.

Marilyn, I saw that firehouse fire on the news! I'm sorry but seeing it on tv somehow makes your descriptions more real, really scary stuff to me!! Prayers that you & all of you getting this storm are safe!

There were actually two firehouse fires here, one in Baltimore and one in Sykesville. Now that all the snow is done there are roof colapses all over the place.

I probably will not see the opening ceremony, I pick and choose the events. Pretty soon you will have your Sweetie home :cloud9:

You are not horrible! Some years i went all out and some years i am lucky to have gotten out to get a card. This year I have not gotten any cards yet, not even for the kids.
One thing kady liked, although she would not eat them, I made Jello Jiggler hearts. They were pretty but they taste awful!

Sheryl- get packing!!!! You are going to Disney!

I feel much better today. I am not doing much though, I just have Jake. He finally cut a tooth so he is in a much better mood. Welby came by with Nola and we enjoyed her today. Buddy is good, he felt it a lot yesterday so he slept it off. Today is fine but he will have that boxing glove bandage on until Monday!

Funny thing, Welby is watching a miniature horse for a friend. She and Brian were afraid he would get beat up by the other animals, he is small. Oh my! He is a little bully! he was biting the cows ears and tails, pushing the llamas around adn chasing the little mini donkey. They had to isolate him before there is a mutiny on their little farm. For such a little thing he sure surprised them! They said he was perched up on a little hill like he was a lion among house cats

Ellen, thank you so much:hug:

Amy, enjoy the snowman......I'm really concerned that your not going to rest enough. Rest, rest, rest.

Wendie, good luck to Ross tonight.

Glynis, we are making lobsters & having champagne Sunday (same as New Years Eve).
I was going to walk down the street to Godiva & buy some truffles to bring home tomorrow but I know I will just stress eat....so I'm staying away.

I forget what else I was going to post. Hopefully it will come back to me.

Oh my! :rotfl: (that's for the bra, not the snow)

I was next door getting lunch and the young man that works there was talking about how he wanted to move somewhere with no hurricanes or snow, maybe Texas! I said "you do know it snowed in Texas?" :rotfl: The look on his face was priceless.

I am getting dinner out tonight, I am tired of the food in my house.

Ha! Texas gets snow and hurricanes! And tornadoes!

I'm on my way out to the parades tonight. Yes I am bundled up and yes I'll be careful. :)
