~~**The Official January 2014 Group**~~

And the week we were there last January, we wore shorts and no jackets. Lol. It's a goofy time of year!!

We wore shorts and t shirt every day on our last trip in January. We are British we are in the sun shine state we will wear shorts! Even if it's freezing lol.

Last January we wore jeans every day and then a tshirt with a zip hoodie over it. We were fine for mornings and late evenings. My daughter wears a princess dress every single day, so she wore leggings underneath and a zip hoodie over. Easy for both to be taken off when it was peak day temperatures.

Th zip hoodie is the key. So much better than a traditional hoodie. Think of it as two options the traditional doesn't have as the day starts cooler, gets warmer, then cooler again: zipped with hood on, zipped with hood off, unzipped, tied around the waste, then all in reverse.

I learned after my February 2008 (my first ever trip/honeymoon) trip that Florida winters are unpredictable. LOL. When we arrived it was 90 degrees and unbearably humid, rained that night and was in the 50's and crazy windy the rest of the week. I had to spend $60 on a hoodie in the hotel gift shop because I didn't bring anything except jeans and tshirts. I have a picture from splash mountain where everyone is dressed in winter coats, hats and gloves. BEST picture ever. Hahaha. Ever since then I make sure to bring a zip up hoodie, we typically go in November or February, but I imagine January weather will be just as predictable as February. The CM's kept teasing us during that trip saying we brought winter with us from PA and they didn't remember it being as cold as it was that week we were there.

The list would be good if they are officially confirmed by WDW. Lots of speculations and rumors swirling about different attractions being closed and everyone gets all worked up, but until they are listed on WDW site they are not official. For example, Lion King is not listed on Disney site, this is a specualtion that came from who-knows-where. So, until it's confirmed by Disney I don't think it should be posted. Just my humble opinion. ;)

Last year there was a rumor too that January 2013 that FOLK was closing. Is it a rumor again this year/2014?

Last year there was a rumor too that January 2013 that FOLK was closing. Is it a rumor again this year/2014?

I saw on another thread that one of the CMs that posts here had seen it was being closed. It is still a rumor, but one that was substantiated by a reliable source on the boards. I read it is closed starting the 5th, which is naturally our AK day. :sad2: Less and less for my two kids to do at AK. They aren't tall enough for the big rides there and would be too scared for DINOSAUR. I hope the Finding Nemo show, Flights of Wonder and safari are enough...I might be switching to Park Hoppers after all...

ETA: I do believe the rumor because FOTLK is definitely moving locations, so it would make sense that they would close it while doing construction, etc.

I am trying to avoid the discussion around FP+ as much as possible while still trying to keep in the loop.

We are staying offsite (WBC) Jan 13 - 23. I purchased my tickets from UT. I have not linked them to MDE yet. Should I? Until there is a roll out to offsite guests there is no value in doing that yet is there?

It's really hard to say what January will bring in terms of MBs and FP+. That being said, I would link your tickets to MDE because I don't know how it would hurt.

If indeed you are able to participate in testing and make FP+ reservations, you will want to have the tickets linked as soon as you can because there are often problems doing so. As more and more people are exposed to testing, more and more people will be handling issues with Disney's IT.

Regarding weather, January is nice, but hard to "pack lightly" for. We take our swimsuits every year, but also take jackets and jeans.

All you can do is think of packing in layers then about a week before your trip check out the expected highs and lows and think versatility.

65 can be shorts and a t-shirt during the day in the sun with no wind, and can feel like 40 if it is humid, windy and in the shade, at night.

Anyone who lives in the south will tell you the same thing every winter and summer, it't not the temperature, it's the humidity.

It makes 90 feel like 110 and 65 feel like 50. Look at the humidity and wind chill (or "feels like") and that will be your best determining factor, but regardless of what the forecast says, pack to wear layers, expect to carry some if you get warm, never leave the bathing suit at home, nor the gloves and skull caps.

Pack in layers. Wake up and put on the weather, go outside, see how it feels, and dress accordingly for that day with the ability to add or remove layers 10-15 degrees either way.

If you pack for layers, you will not need a heavy coat and a few pairs of shorts won't make or break your packing strategy.

Personally, I always tend to bring more shorts than I do jeans / pants for a few reasons. If it is cold and I am wearing pants, I won't be sweating as much so they will not need to be washed daily. Two pairs of jeans and a pair of khakis could get me through an entire week probably with just one washing. That + 4-5 pairs of shorts and that is all I need. If I am wearing shorts, it is warmer so I am probably sweating more so I won't really be able to get the same use out of them.

Never leave anything at home if you are going anytime from October - April unless you don't mind buying something new at WDW.

This first pic was taken about 12 pm on Saturday, Jan 12 (2013). This is what it was like MOST of the week. Beautiful sun, warm temps, alot of swimming.

Now, this pic was taken just 6 days later on Friday, Jan 18 around 1pm.

As much as I enjoy the warmer weather, sometimes I wish it was just 40-50 degress the entire time so it would be easier to pack.

I was able to customize my MagicBands today!!! Blue for me, pink for my daughter, red for my mom!

Is everyone going to have magic bands for sure? We go Jan 24 and still nothing about the magic bands.

FINALLY the colors were showing up today for our magic bands, so they are all set and ready to go! *excited*

Me: Red
DH: Orange
DD: Pink
DS: Blue
DS: Green

We are heading down for our 7th stay at the Dolphin. Usually buy tickets online or at the desk in the hotel. What should we do this trip with all this hoopla with magic bands and FP +?. I have not been following along since i was busy getting DD ready for London semester and our trip to Disneyland Paris. Now what do I do?! :-) "SingingMom" ....Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

I'm hoping to put together a photopass share for January... does anyone know how this will work with the new MagicBands?
