i saw that video. I’m not quite sure about “comforting” him though. Denzel could have been giving him a “Fool, what is wrong with you?” kind of talk and laying him out. Then hugged him up so he would keep it together Will was a dang fool for his actions, that’s for sure Denzel has been married for years and could have been scolding him and advising him on his next steps. I could imagine him saying “Man up and apologize and handle this thing later like a man.”

I hope no one takes this the wrong way. But, it's a good thing Chris Rock is black too. Otherwise Will Smith might be pulling the race card now, saying Chris said something racist about his wife.

However, on the other hand: IF Chris was white and Will slapped him, I'm sure security would have hauled Will Smith out.

Yeah, Denzel's face when Will mentioned him did not look very comforting or supportive. At first I thought he was mad that Will just won over him, after acting so low class like that.

It's being reported that an Oscars insider says Will already heard Chris tell the joke in rehearsals and didn't react adversely.

Just saw a statement from the LAPD on twitter via a local news site:

LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.

Will be an easy investigation if it comes to that seeing as it played out on live tv!
