History of Rental Rates

Well, there isn't a standard rate. There is more than one agency, and they do not all pay the same rates. It's not like every agency paid every owner $x per point during 2024.

If I wanted historical data, I probably would try to find out how much owners were paid, per point, for using https://dvcrequest.com/ over time. Getting info about just one agency over time would give you some consistency. And if you were to use https://dvcrentalstore.com/ you need to know that they sometimes change what they pay owners throughout the year, depending on supply and demand.

Currently, https://dvcrequest.com/ pays $18 per point for some resorts for reservations more than 7 months in advance. It pays $16 per point for other resorts, and for reservations less than 7 months in advance. They may have changed those rules over time.

...and you can probably use the Wayback Machine together with etiher DVC Request or the rental forum here to get snapshots of the past.

In general, the rates have not followed an orderly increase. There was a period in the late oughts/early 10s when they were pretty flat, but that was more a consequence of the Great Recession.

I think looking at what the rental agencies pay out could give quite a skewed impression as they have started taking a larger cut. Looking at the amount DVC Request pay owners it would seem that my BCV points haven't increased at all in the last 5 years, whereas they're actually taking $7 a point now rather than $5. The difference at DVC rental store can be even more dramatic. A few years ago they actually reduced what they paid owners as they advised that points weren't in as high demand, but started charging around $30 a point for confirmed reservations. Looking at how much they charge might give a better idea of the rates.

If someone had a lot of free time they could go through the boards here as there are decades worth of rentals! I can see that OKW went for $9.50 in 2002. :)

I think direct rentals from member to purchaser yield the most useful data.

I can start with a few data points of my own:
2015, rented points at $11pp for BCV (I rented 200 points from an ebay listing. Seller told me what a great investment it was!)
2016 rented points at $12pp for BLT
2017, rented out my points for $13pp at BLT
2022, rented out my points for $16pp at BLT, and a confirmed reservation for $18pp
2024, rented out my points for $20pp at BLT
