Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Well I did my good thing and didn't even think about it until later, and in all honesty I was trying to help myself too! We were in line at Walmart and we realized we forgot something so I sent the girls to go and get it. Of course the snail pace line sped up right about then! I was loading my stuff on the belt and worried they wouldn't make it back in time. Then a guy got behind me with a handful of items, literally! He was balancing several boxes of lightbulbs and some other things in one hand and had a bunch of stuff in the other. So I told him to go in front of me that way he could put his stuff down and I didn't have to worry about my girls getting back.

hey teammies, i feel behind in our thread this weekend -- tried to skim for any responses to me b/c they are my fav :teeth:

LTS -- keep forgetting to tell you that i  LeGoodwill too! i need to go in hopes of a winter coat, i don't have one that fits and snow is flying here in central OH now. my small town just built a brand new LeGoodwill store so i must check it out! i do consignment store shopping too

and thanks for asking on my surgery, unfortunately there are no guarantees other than completely removing my pituitary or adrenal glands and i'm not ready for that aggressive of a treatment yet. it's common for cushing's folks to have up to 3 pituitary surgeries (this will be my 2nd), it's a small gland (size of a pea) and my surgeon believes it's better to go back than unneccesarily take too much and lose function. even though i've already lost 25% of the gland I still have full function. the other dilemma is the tumors can be microscopic. it's a rare disease and so the research and protocol is not all it should be, and so there is alot of gray area in diagnostics, treatment, etc. that's why i traveled to LA to see a doc who specializes in the disease. so i figure when he says 'prepare for surgery' than i need to accept that reality. sigh. I need to 'catch a high' in my labwork which could happen on the first test but could take me a month or more, as the levels of cortisol cycle unpredictably in the type of Cushing's i have. i think the earliest i'd get to surgery will be the end of Feb, just with some commitments i have already made.

sorry if that was TMI guys....it's really be dominating my thoughts this weekend...I will be down for the count for 2 months after surgery, it's really inconvenient

QOTD -- well maybe my actions over the weekend count? i'm on the board for a local pantry and this weekend we moved locations into a new Community Center. lots of unpacking and organizing next Satruday

QOTD #2 -- what a fun fact! today for moving my DH and I got the remaining christmas deco packed up and put away. i had hope to actually exercise but didn't happen. i'll have to settle for that

QOTD #1 Monday, January 16: Today, many people are off of work and school to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. He left such an impact on the US and the world. Did you help someone today? Make someone's life a little better, if only for a few minutes?

QOTD #2 Monday, January 16: Today in 1994, a new sports tradition at Walt Disney World begins on this cold morning when approximately 12,000 runners from around the world line up for the very first annual Walt Disney World Marathon. What are you doing today to MOVE????

#1 - Weeeellll...I was a nice person at the very crowded grocery store - does that count? I let people out in the aisles, stayed patient when I'd normally be seething inside, that sort of thing. My only more challenging moment was in line, when I was still unloading stuff from my cart onto the belt and the lady behind me put a bar down and started unloading her cart. I still had half my stuff to go - ??? As a friend says, inhale pink, exhale blue. It was crazy like Thanksgiving week in there today.

#2 - I am about to move, really I am! I drove us home today (4 1/2 hours in the car), went grocery shopping, got the laundry going, and now I have a date with the stationary bike and whatever looks good on the DVR. I'm planning on 45 minutes at a pretty good pace, which is usually about 13.5 miles. Time to get back into the routine!

XO

Evening Mickeys!

Nothing too exciting to share today.

QOTD: I did make some pancakes and bring them to a friend who is pregnant. I hung out with her for a few hours and then came home. I was supposed to go shoe shopping in preparation for a job fair later in the week, but I don't know what I'm wearing yet. I need to be more prepared before I go to the mall.

Thanks for all the good wishes on my grocery shopping adventure. My mom gave me a $60 budget. Usually, she doesn't give me a budget and I aim for the least amount possible, but I was up for the challenge. We had a lot of the essentials in our pantry already, so we really only needed meat, fruit, and vegetables. I managed to buy the rest of what we needed for dinner tonight (already had meatloaf) through Friday's dinner plus some deli meat (had cheese already) for lunches. We had some frozen veggies already so I picked up 2 more packages. I also bought a box of cereal (which we didn't need :headache:) and a few snacks for my mom's lunches. I already had plenty of Lactaid and my mom doesn't drink milk during the week, so we only need OJ, which was on sale. The fruit selection wasn't very good, so I only bought bananas and 2 pears. I am using corn thins for bread and needed another package of those. I ended up spending $63.52. :yay: I technically went over budget (which was way less than my usual so-called "budget"), but I bought enough food for 5 days! Our freezer will likely be empty on Friday evening, but that's another story. ;) Oh, and they are forecasting snow :rolleyes1

QOTD #2: I am really struggling with exercise. I want to exercise, but I am so bad at it. I can't exercise for very long before I am out of breath, exhausted, and sick to my stomach. I am hoping that losing 10 pounds helps. My goal for today will be some strength exercises.

Have a great Tuesday Mickeys! :goodvibes

QOTD Saturday, January 14: I have a "weak" time of the week--on weekends, I find that I am MUCH more likely to go over on calories or slack on the exercise. Ironic because I usually have more time then than during the week. So do you have a "weak" time of the week? Weekdays? Evenings? Weekends? And what do you do to DEFEAT your weak time??

Yep, weekends are rough. It's being out of your normal routine. For me, if I don't bring it to work, the odds greatly increase I won't eat it -- if I can stay out of the candy basket in the afternoons, I'm golden. At home, there's kitchen and pantry just calling my name  Evenings are tough, for the same reason, and because I tend to snack while I watch tv. I wouldn't say I'm "defeating" anything, but I am trying to eat smarter -- not let myself get so hungry I'm willing to make a poor choice. :thumbsup2

I had a bit of a NSV yesterday. I got all dressed up in my business clothes and took a picture. The pictures didn't turn out that great, but I realized that I actually looked slim-ish!

I think you look like just the friendly, helpful castmember I would love to seek out :goodvibes

QOTD Sunday, January 15: On this day in 1905, composer and songwriter Allie Wrubel is born in Middletown, Connecticut. He collaborated with lyricist Ray Gilbert on the song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" for the film Song of the South which won the Oscar for Best Song in 1947. So what song gets YOU going and pushes you to keep moving???

Lately my favorite song to run to is the Glee remix of "I Will Survive/I'm a Survivor". I'm also partial to their version of "Candy Man".

Hi everyone! Well, good news! I got my longest long run in today. It was due to be 13 miles, and we followed the local half marathon course, but for the actual race they close the roads down for that and on one part there were no sidewalks so we took a detour and my run ended up being 12 miles. Thats fine by me. The great, fabulous, wonderful thing was: I totally ran the first 6.4 miles straight without stopping!

Melinda -- I can feel your excitement, this is awesome! I think you will have a fabulous :tink:! Have you started to taper yet? Be confident, you are going to have the race of your life! :cheer2:

QOTD #1 Monday, January 16: Today, many people are off of work and school to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. He left such an impact on the US and the world. Did you help someone today? Make someone's life a little better, if only for a few minutes?

I didn't leave the house, so I didn't help anyone outside my family today. I helped my son with his French declamation, that's about it...

QOTD #2 Monday, January 16
: Today in 1994,
a new sports tradition at Walt Disney World begins on this cold morning when approximately 12,000 runners from around the world line up for the very first annual Walt Disney World Marathon. What are you doing today to MOVE????

Not much today. I'm taking 2 days of rest after running 11 miles Saturday (I'm old, I need time to recover ;) Tomorrow I will be back with my regularly scheduled 4 miles.

Maria :upsidedow

I'm off today, so I am sending this out much earlier:thumbsup2

Have a great Monday!!

#1- I did help my MIL, she received a sweater for Christmas which was a bit big on her, person bought at Macy's and I had offered to exchange it for her. I don't have a Macy's near the house (and don't drive remember?). So I originally planned to exchange it at the Macy's by job but with me being sick it never happened. My MIL is legal blind in one eye and she's 80 so doing things like that are a bit difficult for her. So today I took a bus to the mall (40 minutes by bus) and tried to exchange it for her. Unfortunately they did not have her size, she had already instructed me to just keep it if they didn't have her size cause she really likes it.

#2 - I'd figure since I was at the mall I might as well get some walking in... so I walked around the mall twice. I stopped once or twice but I didn't really shop for me, because that wasn't part of the plan. Though I have to say seeing all the pretty Spring clothing really motivated me to get moving at the gym again.

I'm say you were on budget. $3.52 come on that pretty good :thumbsup2 Exercising is hard... especially when you it literally makes you sick. Do you like to swim? Swimming is great exercise and it usually does not cause the same feelings of exhaustion that lets say treadmills do.

#1: I didn't do anything particularly helpful today outside of my normal job responsibilities. I did help out with an issue that was not in my area but I do that a lot anyway.

#2: Did my aerobic exercise and weight circuit today!

Had my usual fat-free sugar free yogurt and almonds this morning and leftover pot roast with vegetables for lunch. For snacks, I went crazy for fruit. I had an apple, pear, banana and some strawberries. For dinner, I indulged. I had spicy pimento cheese sandwich on a croissant then ate a bunch of Jelly Bellies! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:laughing: I should have just plastered the pimento cheese directly on my hips!

Retention Rate (compared to the 72 participants we had sign up for our start week on January 1st)
72% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 2?

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 2 out of 21 weeks, so the challenge is 10% complete.

WAY TO GO TEAM MICKEY!

I was able to get back on plan after being off the last three days. It felt good. I also went to Zumba at my new gym. The jury is out on whether or not I like it. Some of it was really fun, but there were some moves that were nowhere near my comfort zone (a lot of teenage inappropriate school dance type moves.) It made me very self conscious. Oh well, I might try it again now that I know what to expect.

I did great on eating today and even tried something new- Cactus Leaves!

Gretchen: You're right. I don't think anybody can look like a supermodel in a Disney costume. I used to refer to my Fantasyland costume as my "bavarian fruitcake" costume. Have you heard the acronym for EPCOT yet? Employee Polyester Costumes of Torture. I hope that you are enjoying your program!

Worfiedoodles Thank you soooo much! Your encouragement really means a lot to me! I am hoping for a miracle (or something) and that it all just comes together on race day. It doesn't feel too together right now, but a girl can dream!!! :):cool1:

:thumbsup2:cool1:Congrats TEAM MICKEY! We are rockin' this thing!! Way to go to all the losers on both Mickey and Donald. :)

Just popping in to say CONGRATULATIONS to TEAM MICKEY! :cheer2: You guys had a great week!

CONGRATULATIONS to OctoberBride03 as well! :cheer2:Way to go for being the Team Mickey top loser this week!

It is so much fun to see how much fun the two teams are losing when it is all added together! :woohoo:

I have to give my weekly THANK YOU to Sue for keeping track of all this as well. :goodvibes

Hope all my friends on Team Mickey are doing well. I haven't had much of a chance to check in on this thread this weekend. Wishing everyone a great week!

Jen

Away from the boards for a couple of days and I have missed so many posts - have read a couple of pages but think I will need to let the rest go and try and get on here a bit more often.

Well done to all the other losers this week - when you see the total lost between the two teams it is amazing, a couple of peoples worth!!

This week is weird for me diet wise as I have a lot of work meetings some of which involve refreshments and are difficult to actually judge calories for even though I am choosing the healthiest options - I usually work at home so it is easier. I am making a best guess (if anything deliberately overstating the calories) to enter on my log and will just have to wait and see what my weight is on Saturday.

Sue

Good Morning, MICKEYS!! Here is your QOTD:

QOTD Tuesday, January 17: According to the "This Day in Disney History" website, some very funny people, Betty White (1922) and Jim Carrey (1962), have been born on this date. What can you do (or what did you do) to stay positive in your BL journey?

Off to get ready for work! Have a great day, Mickeys, I'll check in later!
