Spin off... when at a restaurant with one other person, how do you sit?

How do you and a second person sit at a restaurant (assuming there's a choice)?

Depends on the table. No choice in a two top, it's opposite. Booth, hubby and I tend to sit opposite but sometimes we will sit on the same side. Square 4 top sometimes opposite sometimes beside each other. Just depends on which chairs are easiest to get to, whether one of us is going to get bumped by someone else, where the damn AC vent is located (I get cold) etc.

It depends on the table. I'll sit opposite when it is a booth or tables that are really close to eat other. We'll sit on adjacent sides at a square table.

This is us too. And it also depends on the placement of the table in the room. If the table is against a wall, I prefer to sit with my back to the wall, so I can see the whole room, and also be out of the “aisle” of foot traffic of wait staff and other customers walking by. If the corner of a square table faces the wall, DH and I both sit on the wall side.

I usually prefer to sit opposite, but it depends on where the table is located and how the chairs are situated. I also don't like to sit with my back facing the entrance, but against the wall so we can see the whole room when possible. We might have learned this as a Mafia thing.

I also don't like to sit along the aisle of foot traffic, especially if waiters are carrying heavy trays on their shoulders and the aisle is narrow. I don't want them accidentally dropping one on me.

I was going to put opposite as that's what we normally do but it occurred to me that we don't always do that. I took DD19 out for a nice dinner a couple of weeks ago and we sat on adjacent sides of a square table. I recalled a meal over the summer where I randomly took a similar approach with DH. I think it happens when we're planning on sharing food. We don't even say anything about it. We just take the two sides next to each other and use the open half of the table to arrange our feast.

We usually sit opposite from each other, but sometimes if we are sharing a plate one of us will move so we are sitting on adjacent sides of the table... like on the legs of a capital L.
If we are at a bar, we try for seats on the corner... same idea/arrangement as on a capital L. If not, we sit next to each other.

ETA: HA!! I should have read TiggerTrigger's post before posting myself!

Usually across. Occasionally at a square table, I will sit on the next side of them, but usually only if there is something that I want to see. Otherwise, it's across.
