Hi,

I need help from anyone who is familiar with St John's!!

I was wondering if it's possible to do the following ...

I know this may only be possible if we catch the 9:00 ferry from Red Hook.

We want to go to Cinnamon Bay first and spend about 2 hours there. We most likely won't snorkle but we do want to try hiking the Cinnamon Bay Trail and do some swimming.

Then on the way back to Cruz Bay, we wanted to take a peek at Trunk Bay....no swimming but maybe walk around abit???

Then head to Cruz Bay for Lunch and shopping at Mongoose Junction then take the 2:15 ferry back to Charlotte Amalie??

Is this just way too much to squeeze in???

We are set on Cinnamon Bay and we would like to do one of the hikes....(kids are 10 and 12 so we can do an hour hike no problem...) after that I just want to make the most of anything and everything else that we can squeeze in... This island looks absolutely beautiful and I want to see as much as I can in the short time we are there!

What have you done when you do "St john's on your own"??

Thanks!!

Jeanie, Your plan sounds like what we are going to try next week. I'll let you know how the timing works out for us. Cinnamon Bay sounds amazing.

in september 2003 my husband and i rented a car at budget (i think) right across the street from Havenight Mall where the ship docks. we drove to red hook, took a ferry to St. John's, explored the island (which is beautiful) spent several hours at Trunk Bay (which as I recall is one beach up from Cinnamon Bay), explored some more and then took a ferry back to St. Thomas around 2:00 or so.

we rented a car because we have a four year old and a car seat for her was not optional in our minds. (the taxis are like trucks with bench-like seating (open air) in the back). there are taxis that can get you to red hook, and i think that i have read in the past that the fare is not too expensive.

St. John is GORGEOUS and I would HIGHLY recommend getting there!

Hi Jeanie,

We went to Cinnamon Bay two years ago via the Red Hook Ferry and taxi. I really enjoyed Cinnamon Bay because it was practically deserted (we snorkeled and swam). My sister, on the other hand, went to Trunk Bay (via the Disney excursion) and enjoyed it a lot less because of the crowds that were there. I would skip Trunk Bay if there was not enough time.

St. John's was one of the highlights of our trip.

You should have no problem as long as you head out as early as possible. With kids your age, I'd go by taxi (Jitneys). They are more fun! Open air, bench seating, with a canopy over the top! (as the above poster stated, not that great for youngsters, but kids your age will get a great kick out of it). They are plentyful on St. John as well and the taxi drivers are really sweet! They will drop you off wherever you want and come back to pick you up if so requested! You should be able to do all the you want in the time that you have.

I love St. John! Take your camera! The views of the beaches from above on some of the roads is absolutly awesome!!!

Does anyone have the link to the tender schedule for St. Thomas? I am nervous if we have to tender that we may not have enough time to do the St. John trip on our own. St. John was the reason we chose the Eastern. We honeymooned there and it was delightful.

Thanks for all the replies!

Susan, I can't wait for your update!! Are you doing any hiking? I would like to hear any details on this as well!! Have a great time...

St John beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world....don't miss it!!!

Does anyone remember what time you can get off the ship on St. Thomas day? We didn't have an excursion planned so we really didn't pay attention last time. Thanks for your help.
