splash mountain: lap bars now installed

remember, its much safer to be trapped with a bar in the event of a fire :lmao:

I guess here's added thrill. Personally I prefer the fake thrill of falling....but I guess I'll take the thrill of possible death by entrapment, lol.

Our Keys to the Kingdom tour guide told us on our tour (Jan 10) that this would be coming with the refurb as too many stupid people were standing up on the ride and reaching out for things outside the boat :sad2: causing the ride to have to be stopped much too frequently. I really think that it is quite silly I mean come on middle school physics (probably earlier) I learned about gravity! Also I ride all lap bar rides with my DH who isn't even that much larger than I am and the lap bars do nothing for me as they are a good 8 inches away from actually holding me in.

That lap bar will only go as far as the largest lap will allow it.

I'm one of those "I'm gonna fall out!" people and Splash is probably the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. But considering I ride with my husband, my experience won't be much different with a lap bar than without ;)

Maybe this will counter-balance the added loading time. :confused3 Maybe the ride stops were frequent enough? I know the ride was stopped for this reason on our last day and it took so long we had to leave the line to get to Hoop Dee Doo. (Big waste of our Give a day fast passes!)

I don't relish the idea of having the lap bar holding me in on the drops, but if it stops the ride from being stopped for all the idiots standing up and/or trying to get out, I'm all for it. I cannot tell you how many times I heard the announcement that the brers were getting into trouble downstream or the more direct "please remain in your boat" announcement in the past year.

It might increase load time by a few seconds, but I bet more people will be able to ride overall because the ride won't be stopped by idiots standing up or trying to leave.

Hate to say it, but after all the times I've ridden SM I never even thought about being or not being restrained. Always wondered why people thought it was scary. The bars won't be great, but I don't think it will make that much difference in the experience or the wait time. Just my take.

I think maybe now with the lap bar I just might try Splash Mt again , I rode it once and agree with others I felt like I was going to fall out.

It doesnt really bother me either way. I have ridden this for years without fear of falling out and love the ride, although maybe this will help with the constant "stopping" of the ride from all the crazies trying to get out. I have been on SM sooooo many times when this happens and we just sit and sit....NO FUN! I like to keep the ride flowing and moving:thumbsup2

People can be so stupid. I always marvel at those who try to climb out of a ride.

I don't see that the integrity of the ride will change but if load times increase, I won't be surprised.
