splash mountain: lap bars now installed

can i be the first to say THANK YOU IDIOTS WHO CANT FOLLOW THE RULES AND LIKE RUINING THINGS FOR EVERYONE!

With the lap bars, will they now be able to decrease the height requirement?

Yippee!!! This ride always scares me on the final drop I'm always afraid I might fall out. LOL. No chance of that now!!

I was always nervous on that ride and am glad the lap bars have been installed. So, for some of us, this is a positive. :)

I just always figured they hadn't lost one yet :lmao: so it never bothered me.

For some reason knowing Disney's love of profits, they'd never put me in a ride where they thought there was the slightest chance of something happening that would result in a legitimate lawsuit.

Why would you want to exit the ride mid-way? Am I missing out on something cool???? :)

A few years ago, my daughter who loves this ride, just before the long fall she suddenly thought it was a good idea to duck to the floorboard of the front seat. She didn't get hurt (or wet either) but it certainly got my attention.

She was about five at that time. Trust me, after we got through the exit queue she figured out that Daddy was very unhappy with her behavior. We've never had a repeat of it but the bars are a good idea.

My boys will be happy. They always make my Dh and I hold them tightly on the drops. They just don't believe they won't fall out. This will help them feel better. I don't mind the lap bar. I'm a pretty small adult and I always thought for sure I was headed out of the log.

Yeah! :dance3: I'm one of those I'm not going to ride it 'cause I'm "afraid I'll fall out" people and now I'll be able to ride it! :dance3:

I'm glad. Now my wil be 4 year old can go on the ride. I wasn't going to let her without the lap bars.

OK, I'll bite - why do lap bars ruin it for you? What's the problem?

Way to ruin a ride Disney!! But, what are you going to do, I'm still going to ride it.

For me the reason it ruins it, is the whole reason the ride is even a thrill. The purpose of a flume ride is that it's scary .......for the sole purpose of feeling like nothing is holding you in. Of course since gravity works, every time, you are completely safe.

I don't quite understand the "now I'll ride it " people? Do you trust a man made bar before you trust the laws of gravity?

the ability to keep feeling in my legs, that's if I even will fit in it now(well enough for the bar to "click")...plus the added 30-45 seconds per boat on load and unload, plus the fact that it was an unneeded change that was only brought about by peoples stupidity

The ride was not designed for lap bars.
The ride ran for decades without lap bars.
Lap bars are an "add-on" which will be a compromise, at best.

The load/unload-time will be slowed, so the lines will be longer, and the FP's can run out sooner.

And, has been discussed in other threads, it is likely that larger/taller guests may not fit as well or as comfortably (or at all) with the added-on bars and mechanisms.

Also, if the ride does E-Stop (emergency stop,) will some guests be able to open the bars and make an emergency exit without a CM to assist.

I don't like the idea of being "locked into" a water ride.

Also, with the many guests who want to ride with their smaller kids (tall enough to ride, but still young) in the same seat, the car capacity will likely be more limited than before.

With any kind of change, "unintended consequences" can pop up.

doesn't bother me . . . hummm, but now that I think about it, maybe more people will ride it and thus longer wait times!:headache:

just kidding!!:lmao:

The lack of lap bars added a sense of 'danger' and excitement. Was there any chance someone was going to 'fall out'? Nope, not a chance. Well, not unless they were a doofus and decided they wanted to stand up or try to exit the boat before heading up that last hill before the big drop..and yes, both things happened.

It's all about science....centrifical force (not spelled right, I apologize). So, when you ride with someone who is larger than you, or as a parent with a small child, that lap bar isn't going to make you any safer. That lap bar will only go as far as the largest lap will allow it. So, if you are 'larger' and you are riding with your small child, your child is going to be just as safe as they were without the lap bar. I've ridden BTMRR with someone who is larger than I and it's wild....I wasn't close to restrained!! Can't tell you how much air I caught on several occasions...kinda scary actually.

So, for those of you who feel safer with the lap bars, that's great. But it's merely the appearance of being safer. I suppose that the bars will keep small children seated. But heres the thing...if someone isn't old enough, or smart enough, to remain seated on Splash Mt, then perhaps they shouldn't be riding it to begin with.

Will we ride it in April? Sure, but it won't be the same.
