Shocked and disgusted!

That kid is a nutcase! Glad you said something! Hopefully security didn't take that lightly.

As far as being a teenager, I'm 22 so it wasn't that long ago, I would have never in my right mind thought jumping into the water on any ride was a good idea. Ever. I'm sure there is a lot of mechanical stuff to each ride and I would rather keep all of limbs. I'm very attached to them. Hahaha

School groups are a hit or miss. I've seen bad and I've been part of a good one. When I went with our high school band in 2007, the majority of us were very well behaved. Our trips were a big deal to us. We had a few minor disciplinary misunderstandings but our band directors are very organized and keep us in line. And we didn't want to be the reason the school board nixed those out of state trips.

Kids will be kids. The disgusting thing about it is...actually touching that filthy water!

Teenager being a teenager. Surely not something that anyone should do, but at the same time doesn't sound like anything too major to me either. So many worse things that teenagers are doing out there.

Until someone gets seriously hurt! Sorry, by this age, they should know better. This was dangerous, not a silly kid thing!

A few years back, we had a group of teens driving and thought it would be funny to toss a frozen turkey from a car window. It was so funny that a poor lady ended up with a fractured face and needed multiple surgeries.

It is potentially very dangerous, and possibly lethal. There may be more than just a trough of water in those canals in IASW. One could get snagged in a mechanism and struck by a ride vehicle weighing thousands of pounds. It would not end well.

This was my first thought. Teens think they are invincible ! I would of be very upset if this happened while I was watching. Not that the teen was being an idiot but that he could of been killed.

Doesn't sound nearly as stupid as what I did when I was 21 and drove my car when I had too much to drink. I turned onto a high speed highway the wrong direction. Luckily I immediately realized what I had done and pulled over and let my friend drive me home. I was so lucky that I learned my lesson and nothing bad happened. Never have drove drunk since then.

Wow, so glad no one got hurt and that you learned from your mistake!

I always assumed that there was electricity in the water for the boats to move. I guess I was wrong. Extremely dangerous thing to do & no reason for it to have been done, teenager or not.

Well if it makes anyone feel better, we have seen a teen escorted out of the park a few years ago - it does happen. Also, a few years before that, I was surrounded by plain-clothed security. I had taken a few pictures on our walk between CR and MK close to the CR just as you can start to see Space Mtn. Apparently these are potentially sensitive back stage areas, so just outside MK I was surrounded by folk speaking into microphones that they "got the woman in the red shirt." I was speechless - have always been a goody-two-shoes... After a chat and inspection of my camera, all was good.
So, I would bet that they were watching and that security took care of the issue in a place different from the offense - just my guess...

We rode it's a small world around 7pm this evening, and in one of the rooms we heard a large splash and turned around - a high school (I assume) student had taken off his shirt and JUMPED IN to the water!!! He quickly jumped back in his boat and his classmates were not laughing - they looked really peeved.

Ha. Kids will be kids. He could be doing drugs or stealing but no, his ultimate thrill is dipping in the IASW water. His trip will be memorable for sure. And the most memorable part about your trip was him so he created memories for you too!

I wouldn't do that, cuz there is a chance there could be some mechanical part that could catch a foot or piece of clothing, or worse -- getting booted from the park you've paid $1000 a day to be at is silly. Reward doesn't justify the potential cost. But to a teen on a day pass it's probly no biggie.

Ha. Kids will be kids.

I hate this expression! It's justification for bad behavior! Yes, kids push boundaries, but when they're not called on it, those boundaries continue to get worse as they get older. Then it turns into things like drugs, alcohol, or worse.

I don't agree with this philosophy. Being a teenager doesn't automatically mean being stupid and ignoring safety rules.

Yes it does! LOL Well in most cases at least. Sure there are some good ones out there. But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be consequences. There should always be consequences, that's how they learn.

But I wouldn't be "shocked" and "disgusted". I do think that's a little over the top. I would probably roll my eyes, and think, "dumb teenagers, I hope they get kicked out".

Gross.

We had a shoe fall in the water on POTC when boarding the ride. The CM got this horrified look on his face and recommended that we trash the shoe, as he would never touch anything that fell in that water.

ROFL!! My son had a shoe that fell into It's a Small World. We got the same look and instruction!! How funny.

I wouldn't be surprised if the kid was just retrieving his dropped cell phone.:lmao:

And if he was, it's probably still damaged. :rolleyes1

Does anyone know if you can make a claim for a cell phone return if you know where and when?

Not surprising. Teenagers really are stupid though. Kidding.

Not stupid, but their frontal lobes aren't fully developed yet. The part of your brain that says, "Is this a good idea?"

And boys' brains take longer than girls' brains to fully develop in this way, up to their early 20s

I always assumed that there was electricity in the water for the boats to move. I guess I was wrong.

If that were true there would be ALOT of dead people because I would bet for every car (or boat if you want to call it that) there is at least 1 person who puts their hand in the water.

Wow I guess he has quite the life of crime ahead of him!

we are leaving in a few days..is there something happening at disney right now for all of these school groups to be there?

Nope, water pumps propel the boats. But there is a lot of machinery in those troughs that the cast members are trained on the locations to avoid.

Seconding pirate water kills any object dropped in it. *shudder*
