This will be our first cruise to Europe, so please forgive me if my questions are silly.
1. What to wear on the port days? I don't want to dress in a way that screams "tourist". What is suggested?
Just wear normal clothes. Keep the camera in your bag and make sure you have a zip closurer bag or something you can wear tightly under your arm. I had no problems in barcelona last time. It should be pretty hot and humid at that time so plan on shorts/capris etc. There are so many tourist no biggie. Also many churches you must have your shoulders covered so be advised to pack a light sweater to throw on if thats a requirement.
2. When does
DCL list the excursions on the site? I would love to do some research on what would interest us.
Last time it was 4 months before. But Barcelona is a piece of cake to get around w/o a tour. The on/off busses are reasonably priced and take you around to all of the key places. I heard in gibralter that it was easier to catch a cab and less expensive to go up and see the monkey...hey we're going to see monkeys!
3. How formal is formal night? I've seen pictures of ball gowns and tuxes. Is that the norm? We haven't been on a cruise with a formal night in 6 years.
I've just worn a nice dress and heels. Then thrown on flip flops after dinner!
4. Taxi to port or DCL transport? I'm interested in staying at the AB Skipper hotel in Barcelona that night before so is a taxi doable or is it just a hassle?
Last time I took the train and then a cab. Taxi's are expensive but not sure if more than dcl or not.
5. Is it better to book your hotel with DCL or direct?
I booked myself through the website booking.com lots of options and they have area maps so you can see where the hotels are in proximity to las ramblas or the beach or the port.
6. On the main page of the website, it list Portagul as stop, but on my reservation page, it's not there. What gives?
Didn't notice that.
That is all for now, but I'm sure that I will have more.
