San Angel Inn....Yes or No?

Isn't this restaurant one of the ones that has a good veiwing area for IllumiNations? I am going to start doing my ADR's soon and I want to book dinner in Epcot the night we are there for IllumiNations.

No. San Angel Inn is a TS restaurant inside with no view of Illuminations. Now there is a CS location in Mexico that you may be thinking of.

Love SAI for the atmosphere & the food is very good too (it's not suppossed to be TEX-MEX-it's suppossed to be authentic style Mexican food BTW)

San Angel used to be a must do for us on every trip until our last visit. Everything from the service to the food was horrible. Very sad, as this was DS's absolute favorite place but even he couldn't eat a thing that was served. The atmosphere is still very nice.

Yes, for us! We did it last May, we had excellant service, food was fantastic. I `ll admit though that tables are way to close together, they either should get a bigger space or use less tables. But our waiter was great, and very friendly. we all agreed that it was Must do for this year again.

We loved it. Yes, it was a little cramped but it didn't bother us a bit. We were right by the balcony overlooking the ride which was great for the kids. The food was different from the Mexican food we are used to, but we are from MI. I'm pretty sure what we normally eat for "Mexican" food isn't at all authentic. Not sure if what we had at San Angel Inn was or not, but it was MUCH better than what we get here. Absolutely delicious!

The service wasn't great, a bit slow in the beginning, but it was far from horrible.

We really loved the atmosphere. The kids really liked eating "under the stars" and the volcano kept them entertained even though the service was somewhat slow (understandable, because it was packed - hot afternoon + free dining = very crowded restaurants during the hottest part of the day). The tables are very close together, and I would have preferred more space - even finding room for my camera bag and my mom's purse was a pain. I wasn't all that impressed with the food, but I am spoiled by some extremely good authentic Mexican restaurants and bakeries near where I grew up. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, and I doubt we'd go back when we can get better Mexican food for 1/2 the price an hour from home.

You may be thinking of the Rose & Crown, which is the TS restaurant in the UK. They have an outdoor patio right on the water that offers excellent views of Illuminations. :thumbsup2

We've only been to the San Angel Inn once (last December), and I have to admit I was a little nervous about trying it after reading so many negative reviews, but we were very pleasantly surprised! It's true that the tables are very close together, but I honestly feel that way in every Disney TS restaurant. They all pack in as many people as they possibly can. :crowded: We enjoyed the atmosphere and our waiter was excellent, very attentive and accomodating. DD and I had the Sope Tradicional (grilled soft corn shell filled with chicken and refried beans, covered with fresh green tomato sauce, fresh cheese and onions, served over a bed of lettuce) followed by the Plato Mexicano (beef Tenderloin Tampiquena, chicken enchilada, and beef flauta, served with sour cream, black refried beans and Mexican rice). DS had the Nachos and DH had the Sopa Azteca (tortilla soup) for their appetizers and they both chose Puntas De Filete (beef tenderloin tips sauteed with onions and chile poblano strips covered with roasted chile pasilla sauce, served with black refried beans and rice) for their entree. We all had rice pudding with raisins for dessert (well, the little bit we could squeeze in ... we were stuffed! ;)) Everyone really enjoyed their meal and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Wife always wanted to eat here, so I was thinking maybe just go in for some nachos and a margahrita or something. For me, the most of the menu would not be appetizing, as I'm a tex-mex guy rather than straight up mex.

I would avoid this restaurant. one of the few places I didn't enjoy and really bad service..

This is the one place at WDW that we hit every time. We go to a lot of different Mexican restaurants in Chicago. They all have a unique style and flavor to their sauces. It's just like the pizza places here...you're either going to like it or hate it. Ask 10 Chicagoans their favorite pizza place, and you might get 10 different answers.

San Angel Inn works for us. I always get the Tortilla soup, and I think the mole sauce is the best I've had anywhere.

It is one of our favorites, we go everytime. We have ADRs for September and I can't wait to see the new boat ride.

ny Dh and I went to San Angel Inn for dinner in 2004. We both loved it. The food was great 9the typical Mexican you got alot for a small amount). The place was nice we were seated right away and we near where the ride passes. It was wonderful. So when we were deciding where to eat this time around it was a no brainer that we would eat here. Well, I was reading their menus about a month ago, and wow had the menu changed!!!! It was no longer the typical americanized Mexican food we eat (no tacos no burritos etc) (That is just strictly lunch). Both my husband and I looked at it and decided that there really wasn't much that we would want to eat, so we cancelled our ADR there and went with Alfredo's. (I hope we get lucky with that one!) We were disappointed in the menu change, but decided to eat at the counter service instead because that was the Mexican food we really wanted. My suggestion take a look at the menu. I think they are on here if not allearsnet.com has it and take a look at it and decide if there is anything that you would like.popcorn::

Great atmosphere, not so great food. In fact, we didn't enjoy the food at all. Would not go back!

DH and I ate here for the first time in February 2005 during his first night at WDW and we thought it was magical. He loved it so much that we went back for lunch on our last day!! :goodvibes

Fast forward to August/September 2005 - went with mom, stepfather, DH and I... And it was decidedly meh. Average service, average food, above average prices. We still enjoyed it because of our "magic hangover" from the previous visits, but no more than that.

Finally, Candlelight Processional Package in December 2005 - food tasted better if you could get over the fact that it was STONE COLD  , and our table was rickety, with a waiter who didn't give much of a you-know-what about the fact that salsa was spilling over our table every time someone passed by (because of how close together the tables were).

We haven't been back since. :sad2:

That being said, I'm hoping to go back this November, just to see whether the magic is well and truly dead. I LOVE real mexican food and SAI has a special place in my heart from our first trip together. Here's hoping it will be back up to its usual standard... :scared:

My feelings exactly. But we stupidly did go back for a second time and still hated the food. Take the boat ride in Mexico and then go have the counter service if you want some decent Mexican. We often frequent REAL Mexican restaurants, but in Epcot we like to try some different options.
