We have ADR's for San Angel Inn - can you share your reviews?

We've been twice, once last summer and the summer of '05. Now being from Texas, we're very partial to our Tex-Mex style of Mexican food. With that said, our family didn't like it very much. The dinning area is very cramped. The tables and chairs around you are almost in your lap. The service was slow at best. We won't be going back.

We're going for lunch in April. I'll reserve judgment til then.

I agree with the first two posters. It's dark, cramped, and unless you're right next to the water that atmosphere isn't overwhelmingly great. The food was also just kind of "Eh..." As for the service, they were friendly, but it felt rushed and they weren't that personable. Generally, the servers in WS or just in WDW for that matter are really friendly and will, most of the time, have a little friendly banter. But in the San Angel Inn, there wasn't any of that. I realize I'm bashing this place (sorry SAI lovers!!!) and our experience wasn't terrible, but we just didn't prefer it and won't be going back.

It is dark, and cramped I agree. But we liked the food. We also like Mexican a lot. I like the atmosphere, sitting by the river watching the boats go by and the volcano.

I think you should try it for yourself. :)

We had dinner there, and we enjoyed it. It wasn't tex-mex like another poster said, but the food was good. We will go again.

We ate there last December and were not pleased. We ate there also a couple of years prior and did enjoy the food - so I guess it all depends on what your likes and dislikes are and what style of Mexican food you are used to. I will say we won't be going back this year.

Thats what I thought too, I've had TexMex and it was much different than that. But who knows?:confused3 We had a very good dish with steak, and some other things, and the drinks were great.;)

I prefer authentic Mexican food over Tex-Mex so as a result we really enjoy San Angel Inn.

I didn't want to go there on our spring break trip because of the bad reviews I've read here. DW, my mom, and my sister all said they wanted Mexican, so I reluctantly did it. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. We though the atmosphere was very cool and we all enjoyed our food.
But all 3 of the adults had the same thing:
Plato Mexicano - Beef Tenderloin Tampiquena, chicken enchilada, and beef flauta, served with sour cream, black refried beans and Mexican rice $20.99

So maybe that's the only thing that is good, or maybe we just have a different opinion from a lot of other people on the DIS. But San Angel was a pleasant surprise. Unlike Marrakesh, which despite the good reviews here, we didn't like at all.

DH and I stop for lunch every time we're at WDW - cool and out of the sun; we've always enjoyed the food. I've gotten in the habit of ordering the chef's special of the day (unless it is fish, which I don't like) and the last 3 times it's been wonderful! :thumbsup2

I agree the tables are close, but we've never felt cramped once we're seated. I also like the shops -- found a gorgeous necklace and earrings to wear with my 'little black dress' to Victoria & Albert's a couple of years ago when I discovered I'd left my own jewelry at home -- very good price too!

I second the poster who recommended trying it for yourselves - then you can post your review here :disrocks:

We have found this to be a very reliable restaurant - we love it each time. Maybe we have better luck with tables and service - I dunno.
But the food is tasty and the service has been fine.
We are always there to relax and enjoy the atmostphere and food, so I guess we do not let a lot bother us.

Try it out!

My new husband and I got married at Disney in November we ate at the Counter Service and liked that but our first trip to Disney together in 2004 - we ate at San Angel Inn. We really enjoyed the atmosphere - there was a boat of college guys that came through the boat ride signing the pirates theme - they were hilarious.... the food was ok. My husband is picky and like many have said we are used to tex mex. I think that was what we expected so the food was not what we were expecting...if you know what I mean. But I love shopping in this pavilion and just wish thay had an ala carte menu

does anyone remember if there is anything on the menu which is fairly plain/unmexican? I have two kiddos who are on adult DDP due to age but are not fans of mexican although DH and I love it in all forms.

I love San Angel Inn. It is a little dark, but that is the atmosphere they are trying to create. We have eaten there in Dec 2005 and Dec 2006, and I was almost thinking about making a reservation for our upcoming trip, but went with a restaurant we have not tried yet. Everyone is going to have their own opinion of it. I thought it had really good Mexican food. I say try it, and if you do not like it, you know for next time.

They have a beef filet that is wonderful. My kids got that, same sort of thing, "adults" on the DDP. They ordered plain cheese nachos for an appetizer and then ice cream for dessert. They loved it and dh and I loved our entrees as well.

We love San Angel Inn, as others have said it is not Tex Mex. They don't have the standard, swimming in sauce and cheese type things most Americanized Mexican restaurants serve. I love their filet, their soups and the atmosphere. The tables are cramped but honestly we have found that at most WDW restaurants so it didn't feel anymore that way. Its just dark in there so that adds to the fun of trying not to knock over someone else's chair when you go to your own! They do serve Tostito's brand chips with their salsa but the rest of the food is authentic. I say give it a try, you won't know until you do!

My mother does not like mexican food and she found something to order. I don't remember what it was though.

I liked the setting, it was beautiful. However, I'm a complete wierdo about eating in a dark setting :lmao: I don't like the Sci Fi for that reason also.

The food was okay, however the soda was nasty. I sent mine back SEVERAL times during the course of the meal because it tasted funny, couldn't put my finger on what it was.

Not one of our favorites, but I wouldn't discourage it either.

We usually eat at San Angel on every other trip. We will be going there in May. The last time we ate there was July 06. It was good. I usually get the same meal, a pasta dish with shrimp with some type on pepper on it. It is very good. DH and DS usually get a chicken dish with peppers, onions, cheese and a spicy sausage. They always love it. DD gets the mexican platter, which has a steak, a taco, and something else, and she always likes it. DS usually eats the steak, and most of the time it is good, not a steak like in Le Cellier, but still OK. The atmosphere is nice with the low lighting. I never feel too cramped, and we have been lucky and have always sat near the water, which is nice. Try it, we have eaten dinner in all the countries except Japan, (that is next on our list), and it is fun to try the different countries.:thumbsup2

Isn't this restaurant one of the ones that has a good veiwing area for IllumiNations? I am going to start doing my ADR's soon and I want to book dinner in Epcot the night we are there for IllumiNations.
