I'm going to zig when everyone zags. I will be staying onsite and will pay for the LL.

Heres the plan assuming 7:30 early entry 8:00am park opening:

Schedule ROTR LL for 9-10 am.
Book Genie + for MFSR for 8-9 am.
At 7:30 rope drop everyone is heading to ROTR we head to SDD and then TSMM and complete toy story land with AlienSS.
Once that is done head to Genie + lane for 8-9am MFSR and immediately book next available of the three ToT, RRC, or MMRR.
Finish riding MFSR head to ROTR.
Finish riding ROTR head to Genie + lets assume MMRR and immediately book next available ToT or RRC.
Finish riding MMRR head to Genie + lets assume ToT and immediately book RRC.
Ride Genie + RRC.

I have been been in the queue of ROTR after getting a boarding group at Disneyland and had the ride go down twice. Ruined the whole day. Never again.

Can I ask what your plan is if you don't get a paid LL for ROTR? I like your plan but how likely do you think it is that we will be able to purchase? And out of curiosity, do you think that people not rope dropping RotR have to be there as early? If I'm rope dropping slinky or ToT, I really would prefer to avoid the feeling of being trampled like it has been at Pandora lately.

So much for free VQs coexisting with the paid lines. Now I have to either fork over $75 for my party of 3 or wait in an epically long line. I am really not enjoying all of the constant back and forth for my upcoming trip.

As an onsite guest my understanding is that we can book our LL at 7am. I think if we are up and ready to book exactly at 7am it shouldn't be a problem to get a ROTR LL.

The reason for being there at 7:30 am rope drop is to get SDD knocked out of the way as that is an IAS. Since its not part of Genie + its either pay or wait standby. Once that is done based on location it seems reasonable to knock out Toy story land completely before heading to the Genie + MFSR and then the IAS LL ROTR. Then just roll with the rest of the rides in whatever order Genie + has next available. SDD is important to get done asap as its not part of the Genie +.

The plan assumes on site privileges of being able to book the LL at 7am as well as the 30 minute early entry perk.

Disney's goal will be to price the IAS so that everyone who wants one, will be able to get one. Their bean-counters will view as a failure any day where the IAS's for a ride sell out well before the day is over, because that shows they could have priced them higher and earned more revenue.

I’m sorry I must of said something wrong. I was guessing 4 hours in the beginning as in the first week or so (?) then down but LL will keep regular stand by up. It’ll be rare to go below 90 like FoP, but I am definitely not an expert. I definitely agree with you over four hours will not be common. And I don’t think it’ll ever hit 6. These are all just my personal guesses. And like I said I am no expert.

No, you're good. I agree. It could definitely depend on how much LL they sell for sure.

I suppose we will see what happens on Sept 23. I just am thinking about how we used to have to be at AK before 7 to rope drop when the park opened at 8. And how early people were getting to DHS in order to be able to secure boarding passes (pre-covid, in park only days). The suspense is killing me though. Without planning FP in advance (or LL, or IAS), I feel like I'm throwing darts when I make my ADRs next week.....

ETA: (While they are making all these changes, can we get a virtual queue for shopping in the market? That was seriously painful the last time I was there.)

I haven't done rope drop since the times of paper fastpasses. (Edited to add that once they switched to Fastpass + reservaitions, we always did afternoon/evening fastpass times.)
Back then, yes, you'd get in line outside the park super early so you could "run" to get a fastpass for the most popular rides. It was called "running of the bulls." It was horrible. Back then, you'd wait for your group to get through the turnstile, then one member of the party would be the "runner." (I was always the runner.) NOW it looks like EVERYONE will have to run together with their group. That's gonna be great....

Horrible news. We never had an issue getting a boarding pass. 3 days this past trip, 3 passes. Cannot believe they are not leaving this as an option. Oh wait, how else are they going to get people to pay more money on top of the already over priced entry ticket.

This sounds lovely, but do you really think you'd be able to get both ROTR and MFSR before 10am on any given day?

I think the rest of the day seems highly optimistic. I feel like the later day LL's won't be that different than FPs and you couldn't always get rides you wanted. But I surely hope this works!

Yeah youre definitely not the only one thinking that (for anyone who wants more fun there are other rotr standby threads around also!). Last night, in order to get peace of mind and fall asleep I’ve decided to take them at their word “pause” and hope that maybe they will bring it back after they “go live” with genie+. Or at least at really busy times like holidays and summer. But in general, I hope their IT is prepared for this. Anyone who has tried to register for a run disney race pre-pandemic can tell you about crashing servers and virtual queues (actual ones, to get into something online).
I’ll be watching and observing for sure.
