Refill Mugs - Are 2008 still good??

Who would think such a simple question could generate 100 REPLIES in only 48 hours!!!

If nothing else, these Dis'ers are pasionate about DISNEY.

Is it OK to buy Disney pins on EBAY for 85 cents and trade them at the parks???

No reply needed.

Whoo Hoo...I broke the 100 mark...

I guess I feel there are just more important things to police than soda refills..:rotfl2:

I can tell you my vacation is not ruined if I see someone using an "illegal cup"

For those who insist my children are going to become serial killers because I am starting them on the long road to crime by using an old cup....have you ever broke a rule....drove over the speed limit without getting caught?

If Disney started selling penny candy in the food courts, candy that they sold for one cent each, would you take a piece or 2 without paying? Would you demonstrate to your kids that it's OK to take a piece or two without paying? And if you answer "No" to these questions, my next question is, "HOW is this any different than taking soft drinks you didn't pay for?"

Seriously, I have NEVER received an answer to this question. I'm not angry, I'm not agitated ... I'm curious.

It isn't any different, stealing is stealing, some people just like to justify their actions. If other people want to use their old mugs, go ahead I'm not going to play mug cop, I just know that I couldn't do it.

Your own with germ covered mug and I am the one behind you ore somebody else and have to place my mug on that same spot. (just in a way of speaking not saying you are one of these persons :lmao:)

Ergo the germs just spread around like fleas on a dog.

I don't know if the person before me just lets her kid p.. in the same cup ore at home uses it to measure the dog food.

People sneeze at there cup, people don't brush there teeth ,don't wash there hands after using the bathroom and so one. :scared1:

We do get them with the DDXP but we never use them. They make a nice surprise for my niece back home.

And imagen how much of the useless threats we did not have to read :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
You should stay at the Boardwalk then - they never use the mug - you get a fresh paper cup and don't have to worry about the mug!

I am with you. I have been to Disney about forty times and have bought new mugs everytime! I have so many mugs at home, we throw them away now before we leave the resort. I will not reuse previously bought mugs, because I have read the signs and I follow that. I assume the twelve dollars i pay for the mug are for the sodas on that trip not for my trip next year. But honestly, I never check out the mugs that people are refilling..If they are using old mugs..so be it, but that is something I would not do.

That's a rediculous analagy! Disney probably makes millions on the mugs alone, we are not talking about some mom and pop store. Read the other post where the CM says even he would not say anything, it's rediculous. Again, there are millions of visitors who never even read these boards and do as they please regardless of what disboard members think or do. Really people, use your energy elsewhere.:rolleyes1

If you are dishonest in small things, what makes you be honest in big things. Some people think stealing the penny candy or soda is okay. Others know stealing cannot be justified by warped thinking. It's just a matter of character--some have it and some don't.

Obviously the difference is that some people have reported that they have asked the CM's if they can use them (old mugs) and got the ok, to me that is like the CM saying here take the candy...its on the house...not just stealing it. LMBO

Let's use the analogy of the cm saying it is okay to steal the soda, even though we know the official rule is it's not.

As a parent, you tell your kid not to steal. A peer tells them to go ahead. Is it okay for your kid to steal since the friend suggested it, or should they follow your rule? Now when they have seen you stealing for years, what will they do?
More bothersome to me than parents thinking they are smarter than the rules or too special to follow the rules everyone else lives by is the pathetic example they are setting for a whole new generation of kids.

The problem with this analogy is that for many people - the only info they get is from the CM. The writing on the mug is so small that I didn't even notice it until this thread.

And it isn't just this generation...I saw a older woman and her middle aged daughter using their mugs at McDonald's. There has always been and always will be people in this world who will not teach their children right from wrong.

I will worry about what I teach my children and not worry about everyone else.

I would love for someone to answer this question - if Disney doesn't care - why do you? They know it is going on and do nothing to stop the behavior. IMO - they could simply put up stronger signage and have the CM inform the customer when they purchase it is only good at that resort and for that stay and people would be less likely to reuse them.

I believe Disney also used to change the mugs more frequently and have them for each resort to deter this - they must have done a cost analysis to decide it wasn't worth having so many different mugs to stop the behavior.

lmbo...I am sure those who have taken their own mugs and asked a cm "is ok if we use them" and the CM responded yeah go ahead and steal the soda....that's too funny for words:rotfl: :lmao:

I guess it bothers me because I see those little things leading to bigger things. If people don't speak up about the little things, will there be anyone to speak up about the bigger things? With crooked politicians, crooked bankers, all the mess with mortgages, etc., it would be my hope that at least we could make some progress towards doing the right thing.

Your post is offensive to me-who are you to say who has character and who doesn't? As such,I reported it as being offensive to me.:sad2:

You're avoiding the question. Because you can't answer it and be comfortable with your own answer.

Let's look at another analogous situation, then ...

A huge movie theater chain. The employees there routinely let some people in through the emergency exit so they can enter the theater for free and watch the movie. There is no direct cost to the huge corporation. The front-line employees say it's okay to do. Would you do that?

And if not, how is it different than the mug example?

I've never gotten an intelligent answer to these sorts of questions, that is, from people who will try to justify stealing the penny candy or not paying for a movie. That's because entering a theater without paying seems wroong to most people. And stealing a solid, tangible item seems wrong to most people. But stealing a liquid doesn't seem wrong. People justify it that it costs Disney nothing. A few people snuck into a movie theater costs the movie theater and the movie producer (such as Walt Disney Pictures) nothing. A few pieces of penny candy costs them next to nothing. So why don't people rationalize those??? I can't figure out why soft drinks are OK to steal but penny candy and theater admissions aren't.

I'm really truly curious about what the difference is. Again, I'm not angry about this, I'm not wild-eyed about this. I'm a therapist and I like to gather insight on people when I can. This seems like as good a time as any.

We go to WDW every year (sometimes twice/year) and purchase mugs every time. We have accumulated so many that we also now throw ours away before leaving. We would not even consider reusing the mugs on our next trip - it is stealing no matter how you want to try and justify it!!!! :sad2:

Actually for anyone to answer your analogy it has to be comparable so in your scenerio, Disney will have to offer an all you can eat candy container. You pay 12.95 and you can refil the container as often as you like. It will have to have a policy on it that says it is only good for the length of stay and at the candy display at your resort. A new design is resold every year. However employees let anyone with a container refil with out stopping them. And the question will not be if taking a piece of candy is stealing, but whether or not you can reuse your candy container while that style is being sold, and blah blah blah.

No one disputes that if you go to the soda machine and refil your big gulp cup that's dishonest. While refils are in question, there is no question that a disney cup, whether refilable or paper is sold at the resort and you do require one or the other to visit the drink area. The debate comes from the ethics of a refilable container and it's limits posted or implied or allowed.

So you need to rephrase your question.

Your post is offensive to me-who are you to say who has character and who doesn't? As such,I reported it as being offensive to me.:sad2:

I did not mean to offend you or anyone else.
There is a sign and the mug itself says the policy. It has not changed; the rule has been there going back 10+ years--Good this visit only.
If you look at the other side you could say we who follow rules are offended also. The prices of those who are honest and pay for our purchases are inflated by those who persist in stealing. If everyone paid their fare share, the $13 mugs might only cost $10. When someone steals from Disney, Disney does not take a loss. They pass the cost along to the ones who play by the rules just like the stores in our hometowns do.
These are the character issues I refer to:
1)Respect. When Disney states this visit only, respect it.
2)Don't steal. There is no other word to describe taking something you have not paid for.
3)Responsible--paying your way, also guiding your children to do the right thing.
4)Humble--not thinking you are above the rules, also realizing you did wrong and changing ways
5)Cooperative--obeying the rules

I am not at all saying who has character and I was not answering a post of yours. I would never personally attack someone here because of my character. I will and do take a stand for what is right and wish that did not offend you.

This thread is making me very sad. That so many people see nothing wrong with stealing, and have the attitude that "Disney should make it harder for us to steal." What?! What happened to people having some sort of honor, and just doing what is right, not what you can get away with?:'

I don't care that a Disney vacation costs a lot of money. That does not entitle anyone to steal, even something that is cheap. It wouldn't entitle you to steal a penny gum-ball. Do you go into a grocery store, buy a cart of groceries, and then steal an orange? Do you go into a clothing store, buy a new outfit, and then steal socks? No? Then what makes it ok to steal from Disney?

Where are the morals?:confused3

movie situation...I have done it...I had a friend in college that would let us in to the midnight showing. DO I feel remorse nope...sorry I don't...and even now I bring in my own candy and kids snacks in my purse :scared1:

People blur the lines of right and wrong every day. But in this case I am assuming we will have to agree to disagree, if the guy working the at the food court says I can use it...I'm gonna use it..he is the employee, I am the consumer...if he had the risk of getting fired from it then I am sure he would tell the person asking...sorry you have to get a new one...

In my case my cousin gave me 4 she picked up in Jan. She bought them for me as a gift for us to use on our vacation in May (She knows we are going on a budget and wanted to help us out) (BTW she did ask the person when she bought them if it was ok for her to buy them for us to bring a a later date and they told her yes....otherwise she would have just given us cash). So she payed 13.49 for 4 and did not fill them up once.

Will I bring them...yes...will I use them...yes...will I feel guilty...not one bit. If a CM asks me about them I will tell them the truth and if they say I need to get new ones I will...

Maybe one way to solve this since it seems to bug some of you so much is make the mugs a little cheaper and charge a flat 10-25 cent refill fee for all mugs....but then the ones that bought the really old ones with free refills forever will they have to pay?

And one more thing....do you feel the same way about those who share a photopass?

I can see this thread getting locked, the posts seem to be getting personal and off topic.
