Refill Mugs - Are 2008 still good??

I know I get a chuckle when I see someone come up to the beverage station with a mug that is so old and been through the wash so many times that you can hardly tell what was written on it! I would never say anything to them of course. Disney would probably shoot itself in the foot if they tried to police the beverage stations by coming up to guests and telling them to stop using a mug. Soda is cheap compared to the bad feelings it would create and the loss of a possible return visitor.

Ah, so 6 years ago they tried a system that "might" have been as a result of guests reusing old mugs, but nothing there states that for fact. Since nothing has been done over the 6 years, what does that tell you?

What it tells me is that WDW is in fact concered about the resort refill mug abuse. It also tells me that the system they tried did not work well enough for them to use it for the resort refill mugs.

It did work well enough for the water parks and they are using it there.

The problem was in 2002 the technolgy was not there to be able to let the bars codes be used for a lenght of stay. They only had the technology to have the bar codes expire at the end of each day.

So in order to use the bar code for resort mugs guests would need to get a new bar code sticker each day during their stay.

When the DDP first came out the Adult and Chilld credits were not seperated and many used that loop hole to buy more adult meals using the childs meal credit.

WDW worked hard on the technology to come up with a way to seperate the child's credits from the adult crediits and now that loop hole was eliminated.

WDW is concerned about the revenue that is being lost by the abuse of the refill mugs.

As technology becomes more advamced and WDW finds a cost effective way to enforce the "Refill mugs good until the end of the stay" they will use it to STOP the refill mug abuse.

Until then my WDW manager friend said WDW will continue to put the large signs in refill mug areas ,print the rules on the handles of the mugs and rely on the fact that most guests will follow the written rules.

Just my 2 cents.

This is an older resort mug sign that was taken at Pop

we personally are not the type of people that try to get something for free. We don't pay for a movie at the theatre and then sneak into a second one. We don't take handfuls of samples that say take one. We don't say our 12 year old is still 11 to get a cheaper price. We just don't. I figure if you can't afford to buy a cup the 2nd visit, perhaps you should question your judgement of going the second time. We have gone to many parks that have the cups and you pay a lot for the first one and then pay a smaller amount for each refill. Disney may have to go this way as well.

Just because Disney doesn't make a scene about it doesn't mean it is right. Just means they might have more class than some. Or perhaps they will just raise stroller prices or parking or something.

Do I say something to others who do it? No, and I wouldn't have here either if you hadn't asked.

We have those blue mugs from last year and I am drinking from it right now. I am really looking forward to buying new mugs in August. I would hate it if the mugs were the same as last August's mugs!

i guess if I made more than one trip I would be disappointed in not getting a new mug design.

for those still wondering if you can mug hop...Let me just add this to the above. I have a mug from Wilderness Lodge from a few years back when the mugs were different at each resort and it says this:"Free refills until the end of your stay.Refills only at location purchased." So It seems when they switched to the same mugs at all the resorts, they allow mug hopping. Since all the mugs are the same, they would have no idea where you purchased it. So I say go ahead and Mug Hop!

Most of the resorts have been switching over to a new mug design for the new celebration and the language has changed on the mug.

"Refills available at no additional charge at Resort Beverage Islands located in the resort that this mug was purchased through the end of your resort stay."

So it looks like mug-hopping is not allowed even though the resorts are selling the same mug.

Wow! That is what is written on the new mug? I am really surprised at that. Looks like they keep changing their minds! No wonder evryone is confused!

Yup, got my new mug last week and that's what it says on the side. It's different from the blue YOAMD mugs.

When anyone simply trusts others to follow rules, it doesn't work. We wouldn't need various checks/balances in society if that were the case. If Disney truely felt it was affecting revenue they would do something more proactive about it. Until they do tackle this issue head-on, people will continue to do as they always have.

Something that should be considered in this debate; what percentage of guests every day are return guests and using old mugs. I'd bet that number is very low. Therefore the impact on revenue is probably not worth even having the discussion for Disney managment.

I honestly think if Disney really cares about the lost revenue they will make changes like they did with the adult/child meal credits for the dining plan. I remember tons of threads back before the change in which posters claimed that "they were their credits to do with what they wished, including treating Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary from Tampa with their children's credits." These same people claimed that if Disney really, truely cared about the lost revenue and abuse they would put a stop to it by seperateing the credits. Well, they seperated the credits. So they must have "cared." It will be interesting to see if Disney cares enough about lost soda revenue that they make changes. I wonder...:goodvibes

Ok, I've never done DDP, but I still don't get why I can't treat somebody else using my credits. What does WDW care who eats the meal? Can somebody enlighten me on this, please?

And at the same time, enlighten me on how mug hopping would be wrong -- I'd still be buying a CS at a WDW resort just not the one where I'm staying.

Because people were paying $9.99 a day for Jrs DDP, getting him a CS lunch, and a snack, and then using his TS credit to buy Aunt Jenny a $32.99 steak, plus a $12.00 appetizer, and a $7.99 dessert at Le Cellier that night, while they paid for a $8.00 meal for him OOP (or else fed him off their plates). Also during times of free dining a couple would go to WDW, make up a couple of kids to add to their room, and then have four CS, four TS credits, and four snacks a day for themselves to use for Signature Dining or whatever they wanted. When people abuse the system, everyone pays.

Are you serious? Somebody actually did that? I'm sorry I just can't believe that. :confused3

Disney has learned, and now it's necessary for people getting the FREE Disney Dining Plan that all individuals on the reservation be present at time of resort check-in, so they can be sure that you truly have as many people in your party as you say you have (rather than inflating the number in your party in order to get more FREE dining credits).

Lots of somebodys were doing that. And they would most likely tell you that it obviously was fine that they do so, because Disney left that loophole in the plan open. When Disney got sick and tired of people using the plan in a way that they didn't intend it to be used, they tightened the rules.

HAs Disney changed the mugs yet
I am going in April and want to bring my mugs from the 2008 trips.

Have they changed them yet???

This question has been answered quite fully.

Thank you all for your thoughts on this TOPIC.

I honestly beleive that there must be another TOPIC on this website that is deserving of all this attention.

In closing, I'd like to say that if I had a dime for every post to my original question I could buy myself 2 NEW mugs and free myself from this life of crime...

:thumbsup2

Ok I can see that - especially with FREE dining. Some people are just greedy. FREE isn't even good enough. Some people must have FREE and more FREE. :lmao:
