Reporting back on my experience with GET: the best they were willing to offer was a chance to do it all over again tomorrow, which was

I just don't want to be That Person, but I did consider it. We went past a pretty short GET line when we went back so I stopped and explained and showed him my screenshot, he scanned all of our Magic Bands and stared at his screen for a while ... and then told us boarding groups were full and they couldn't do anything for us. I was a little surprised he went through all that just to turn us down, when you start scanning the whole family's MBs it gets a person's hopes up!
Are you at dhs until this evening? If so I would keep an eye on bg and if it seems they're getting ready to close the line ( the larger number stops moving while the shorter number inches towards the larger) i would swing by the ride and ask the cm.

I'll put that in my pocket as an option in case we decide to head over for Fantasmic; I'll report back on how that goes if we try it. I'm a little hesitant to even take another chance going over there because we really ended on a high note with MFSR - I managed to snag a FP for that the day it went to FP and both my son and my husband were freaking out about how cool the theming and line and everything was. I did stare a little longingly at the ROTR queue as we walked past though...

Aloha, Hope it's cool to ask this here. We will be visiting DW the last weekend in April. Going to do MK one day and HS one day.
Originally we were going to do MK on Friday and HS on Sunday. Getting on RoftR is a major desire. Any strong opinions on if either day is better to visit either park? I need to decide by Saturday to start doing fast passes. Thanks!

I'd do dhs on day 1 so that you can go back if you have problems that first time.

I think this is a wise suggestion. If GOTR is high on your list of priorities, then you'll want to give yourself more than one shot.

Yea I was kind of thinking of that but we have single park tickets. So if there was a problem we would be looking at having to purchase a single park ticket for just trying to get on RoftR. The other factor I didn't mention is that it looks like DMK has EM hours on that Friday and DHS has EM hours on the Sunday. We are staying at the Fort so it would be nice to take advantage of the EM hours. We also prefer the idea of going to DMK first on Friday. What I'm concerned about is that appears from researching this, that DMK tends to be busier on Fridays and DHS is busier on the weekends due to locals trying to ride RoftR. I guess I'm just trying to figure out if it's enough of a difference to swap our park days? Thanks!!

Glad you found your sunshine in the MFSR ride! I know it'll be rough not getting to see RotR, but...that's why there's always next trip, am I right? :) uggh, I know how I'd feel in your situation if someone said that to me... No you fool, I'm here now, let me ride!!! haha.

The fact that those parks have EMH on those days will actually increase the number of people hitting those parks on those days. For precisely the same reason you want to go. But I get wanting to hit MK first. If you don't go to WDW often (are you coming from Hawaii???), it is certainly the park that will invoke all of those magical and nostalgic feelings to get your vacation started right! So you just have to prioritize what you want for your family. You didn't mention when you're going, but just know that HS is going to be crowded no matter what. But it could be "worse" on Sunday vs. Friday.

Can I throw out a strange alternative? What if, instead of doing a full day at MK, you did the Villains after hours party? I know it seems illogical to spend another full park ticket, but at the same time, you get more chances to do RotR, and if you get it your first try, you can check out Animal Kingdom or EPCOT sunday instead.

From what I've read, Disney After Hours, with it being a very limited event, the crowds are way down with short lines for a majority of the rides. Some people claim, even with only 3 hours, getting to ride 15-20 rides. That's way more than you can do spending the full day there sometimes.

Moral of the story: You can get a BP using the Skyliner to get to HS, but it's not recommended.

Great article -- I'm glad someone tried it out. Although gondolas can obviously have problems, if they just started running them an hour before park open, that would make them viable options for both rope drop and getting a boarding group. I don't know why they don't maximize existing transportation options, which would presumably help alleviate the demand for buses, etc.

Yea I'm wondering how much "worse" a Sunday is vs a Friday at DHS? If it's simply just going to be busy both days no matter what, I'm leaning towards sticking with DMK first on Friday. We are going last weekend in April and do not have park hopper passes. It's just 2 of us and my wife wants to dedicate 1 day to 1 park. The other unknown factor is that other new ride, Mickey and Minnie's runaway railroad ride opening up at DHS. I'm sure that is going to make it crazy also?

You know what? I would end on a high note. Don’t set yourself up for another disappointment. ROTR is great, but the whole land is great and ROTR is just one part of it. I wish you good karma for next visit!

This is a great suggestion! The After Hours events are great because of the lower crowds.

Personally, I avoid EMH days like the plague. They make crowds even worse. And, if something happens and you end up getting a recovery day at ROTR, you want to give yourself a cushion to use it.

How fun would it be if anyone going to the parks gave us their username and password and we ALL tried getting a BG for whichever family was in the park for that day. I feel like we would all have our competitive spirit and try and be the one to get the boarding group, and we'd probably get a very low group as well!!

Or do a roll call of our visit days. Everyone add everyone else to each other's MDE, and all try to select all for one big massive BG for all of us!!😛

I’m going solo in April/ I’d be all for it!

If you see a CM by the name of Cathy in front of the ride please go to her! She has blond hair and was wearing a pointy hat - lol. She helped us last week get on a little early (and got permission from her supervisor to walk us through the fastpass line) so we could make our flight home (granted we had a boarding group). But she really wanted to try to help us and seemed genuinely concerned.
