***Offical August 2025 Thread***

For frequent August Disney travlelers...what do you recommend when it comes to ponchos/rain gear? I have taken ponchos before (I have gone in August/Sept) but it's so gross and humid wearing them. Just wanted to see if anybody has any recommendations.

August veteran here, but we just wear the super cheap disposable ones because I loathe carrying wet ponchos. I also bring Ziplock bags in a variety of sizes to put our phones, wallets, portable chargers into in case the backpack we carry gets soaking wet. I also begrudgingly carry an umbrella in the backpack (be sure to take it out as you are walking through security!).

For years and years I have sworn by a Columbia rain jacket that packs into its own pocket. It's very breathable and has moisture wicking properties so it dries quickly and it's compact enough when packed down that it fits perfectly into the mini loungefly backpacks I like as park bags. But even fit into a sling when I still used those. The nice thing is it also does double duty at night when the AC on the buses is freezing. I also carry a UV umbrella that's really compact that does double duty in the rain.

I just really hate ponchos because they're a sensory nightmare and the environmental impact of the cheapo disposable ones is something that really bothers me.

I think I have the list updated. Disboards with all the ads locks up my computer every time and I lose stuff. If I have missed you just let me know.

We have been working on our window decorations and Pixie Dust bags this month (POP Century). Anyone else at POP and going to decorate your window. We started doing it back in 2019 and DH really loves to plan it out and come up with what we are doing.

We combine a waterproof rain jacket with a disposable poncho and flip flops. Rain jackets and flip flops go on when the drizzle starts. If it gets heavy, Ponchos go over top the backpack to keep that and shorts dry. Ponchos are humid, but we don’t put them on until it’s 100% humid anyway.
Do check that your rain jacket is actually waterproof before your trip. (The $15 one I got from Costco turned out to be only water resistant.) When DD was smaller, she rarely used a poncho since I bought her an adult sized coat that covered her shorts. (Just be sure it has elastic or Velcro at the wrists to keep the too-long sleeves from swallowing their hands.)

I hate the ponchos too! I may just go with a smaller UV umbrella. I have some saved in my Amazon cart :).
