Question for female cruisers only (Guys, really this will not interest you!)

Judging from my drugstore trip yesterday, this thread might interest the guys. New "Nair for Men" is on the shelves. It claims to remove arm, chest and BACK hair. DH has no idea what he has in store before our next trip. ;) [/B]

Let me say 3 words...LASER HAIR REMOVAL. I had it done about 10 days before we left on vacation (that was May 1st) and I still have not needed to shave! I did my underarms and bikini line. It is a little uncomfortable (feels like being snapped with a rubber band) and it takes a few days for the lasered hair to all fall out, but it is well worth it. It can be costly but to never have to shave those areas and put up with irritation again is well worth it. I found a laser hair center here that gives the first 15 minute visit free (you'd be surprised how much area they can zap in 15 minutes) and then if you go back (which they said I will have to go back at least once) you are charged in 5 minute increments.

Oh and Grumbo, while you have the turtle wax out, my car needs a wax job too!

I need to get over this, right? I mean, they do dozens of waxes, don't they?

1. they probably DO see tons...
and I'm not the least bit modest... but
I guess this is why I'd NEVER consider
getting anything "down there" pierced...

2. I'd worry about communicable diseases
EVEN if it were a reputable place like
a Canyon Ranch spa here in Tucson...
there is plenty that can still be transmitted
unless there are 17 layers of latex between
you and the tech.

3. I'd do test fires at home... if you have
a good 3-6 months before you sail, try
different things centered around shaving...
personally, I use a razor with regular
shaving cream and then as soon as I'm done
I layer on some caladryl lotion... helps
prevent itching and the red bumps!
and it lasts about a week before you
need to do it again.

I'm a new convert to the Brazilian bikini wax. Nair smells awful and is very irritating to me. Shaving has to happen too often, left bumps and ingrowns, and itched quite a lot coming back in, so now I'm into the Brazilian.

I started out in January with my wax tech, Erin. She told me that hair grows in cycles and that by waxing the first time, I was bound to see some growth within a week or two of the hairs that were not quite ready to emerge to the surface level. So the first time she suggested coming back in 3 weeks.

It was PAINFUL!! I was bruised and red and sore. There was no kind of after cream used. When I came back in three weeks we decided to go for hair that was too hard to get to before. This time was a bit easier because there wasn't so much. she suggested coming back in 4 weeks that time.

With each time, the pain was more tolerable (still hurts though) and it takes less time to do and there is significantly less hair growth. In some areas it seems to have stopped growing back all together.

Definitely not for the modest. Can get kind of expensive too but soooo worth it to me. With all the styles of low panties, swimwear, jeans, etc I can now feel confident that I won't have to worry about strays.

Good luck with your choice! I agree that you should get whatever you want done at least a week before the cruise so you don't have any adverse reactions.

No thanks, I'll take care of this myself!!!!

I figure that I can do a close enough job. My bathing suit has a skirt and anyone who can see anything is way too close or better be my dh!!!!!

Grumbo, thanks for that unexpected laugh in the middle!!! Actually, this thread is pretty entertaining all the way through.

I have never posted before but read often...guess I'm a lurker
When I read this one, I had to reply...LOL
I lived in Turkey and every time I went to get my eyebrows waxed, they tried to talk me into a FULL wax (brazilian). That was the norm for the Turkish women. They thought we American women were strange for having any hair AT ALL!!! LOL I did get a bikini wax and leg wax one time and ended up with those dreaded infections on my legs too, AND I was six months pregnant. I couldn't see to shave anymore...LMAO!!!

If you put on deoderant after you don't get ingrown hairs or bumps. I am talking in your bikini area. I was told this a month or so ago, tried it, and it works,:D

We have an experiment going on at my house. One of my guy friends bought the nair for men and I bought that veet stuff (the mousse one) and I didn't think that the veet worked and he said the nair worked but since we both tried different areas (him his chest and me my underarms and legs) and we have different hair types, we talked another guy friend of mine into nairing one small spot on his upper thigh and using veet on the other thigh. Results are so far, the nair seemed to remove more hair and has stayed smoother longer. We naired/veeted last Wed and the bald spots were still smooth with very little stubble on Sat with the nair leg having less stubble and smoother. Just a little FYI!!! :teeth:

What in the heck is a Brazilian bikini wax? Sorry, but I'm a binkini wax virgin and now I really MUST know.

A brazilian bikini wax is when EVERY hair is remoced from front to probaby back further than you would expect. Lots of men love this and it is the norm in some cultures and countries as someone else has already stated. My younger sister got one and said the first time was extremely painful and the tech even told her that she has had many women cry through the waxing and even pass out. I personally have never gone Brazilian but have thought about it more than once. If I wasn't 6 months pregnant right now I might of tried it for this summer.

I have a question for those women who do have the brazilian wax, do you feel uncomfortable at your GYN appointments? I guess this is why I have shyed away from this so far. I just think I would feel akward at my appts and during my delivery with this.

Barb:
Thanks so much for starting this thread. I had thought of posting this topic on our cruisemeet thread but decided against it. I don't think I'll get a bikini wax (couldn't bear (or should i say bare?) the pain) but I would definitely like to get a lower leg wax.

And to Grumbo: :rotfl:

Interesting thread and important topic!
Personally, I use the Nair=depilatory stuff and then scissors for a "trim" appearance. Sorry about the bluntness..........
God bless you women who go "Brazilian" - you are a better woman than I - we who are hairy salute you!

I just had to reply to to this thread...and I am sitting at my desk at work laughing!!!!

I got Bikini wax once and I don't think I would do it again..IT HURT!! My Dh is trying to get me to do a Brazilian, so I said I will if you will!!! LOL

I just keep shaving......and shaving and shaving.....

just a note on waxing...i had the bikini and legs done about 2 days before going to the river. The first day in the sun and in some places i was burning more than other places. You could see strip lines up and down my legs and of course my bikini area was bright red! I earned the nick name "Stripes" that week! So wear LOTS of sunscreen!

What is a Brazilian-

Well, it seems to mean a few different things around here in Madison. The complete answer is that it removes all hair around the ******, asking you to open your ******l lips and remove the hair that grows in your ******, and remove the hair that grows between your ****** and your anus, with some place also removing the hair above your anus.

Variations include removing the ******l hair only and leaving the anus area alone. Or leaving a small "landing strip" of hair on the top part of the ******. Some places refer to this as a meditterranean wax.

For MinnieMouse1

As far as feeling uncomfortable with the GYN appointments, they make me uncomfortable regardless. But I felt it made the whole process easier. No hair to move aside or for the K-Y jelly to get caught up in.

If you're pregnant I'm not sure what the pain tolerance threshold would be, probably easier if you had started the process prior to the pregnancy but I'm no expert. I would imagine it would make delivery go more smoothly.

MY DW just had Laser Hair removal from her underarms before we went on our 8 may Western cruise. Worked wonderfully for her. She now has plans on doing her legs as well. - Mike

Laser Hair Removal is the best! I had the ENTIRE bikini area done, my underarms, and my upper lip. I was able to go about a month after each treatment without shaving. Also, it doesn't hurt as bad the second time. I've gone back twice but my hair just wants to keep growing and growing. UGH!
I get my eyebrows waxed every three weeks. Love It!
