I just found out this morning that the daycare worker has been fired for more of the same behavior on her part. I don't know all the details yet but it must be good.
YAY!

No the worker should not have done what she did.
And yes you should have brought it to the directors attention, but I will say you should not have discussed the incident with other staff.
The staff did not need to know who brought it to the directors attention. Now they will label you as "that parent". Talk to the person in charge when something happens, not other staff.
I love how quitting your job is "not an option", but you had enough money lying around for several trips and bought a disney timeshare---
1st trip Dec 2007, 2nd trip Dec 2008, 3rd trip Dec 2009, 4th trip Dec 2010, 5th trip Oct 2011 as new DVC members!
But not enough money to get your kid out of a crapola daycare situation.

I spoke to the worker who heard the incident I witnessed. I asked her the next day if she heard what I heard and she confirmed she did and that her and the other girls were upset about it and would be going to the director as well.
As far as other information I get, I get it offsite from somebody that works at the center. There is no parent rumour mill on the infant side as none of us know each other and speak to each other as our kids are too little.
If I see something inappropriate I will be "that parent". I don't care because the kids matter to me more than anything else. I am glad this woman has been fired because she was a liability and a possible physical danger to the kids.
Daycare workers here are not paid minimum wage. Their wage is government mandated and they are paid according to their level of education. I believe they start at $30,000/year. The government has put a lot of money into daycare education and wages and now workers even have pensions because of the critical shortage of spots.
This one worker was a bad apple. She lasted six weeks.
We will have a lot of fun on our next disney vacation. Life is short and vacations are a priority.
Nice try bitter miserable person.
Wow - I wish I had worked for your daycare! As the teacher's assistant, I did all the labor while the teacher sat around and sang a few songs to the kids. I worked my butt off and came home exhausted each day for very little pay.

And did I read correctly that a woman who ran a home daycare lost her license because her child bit another child? That is not abuse - infants/toddlers bite. Some do it out of frustration for not being able to verbalize, some are just biters. Not all do, but it is not at all uncommon. And I don't care how good you are, you cannot have eyes in the back of your head. It happens

I am totally with you that it needed to be reported! Next time, go the director in private and say 'I believe so and so witnessed it too"
Let the director speak with the employee who witnessed it.
The next time some incident gets reported, whether silly or legit, all fingers will point to you. And sadly, even though you are meaning well, SOME teachers will take it out on your kid.
Daycare workers in Canada are not teachers - they have a 2 year diploma in early childhood education or a degree in Child Development.
And yes the government maintains an approved rate of pay as it was the only way to attract people to the field.
No you did not read correctly.
The owner, not her child, bit my child and was charged criminally.
Quitting my job is not an option because I would screw over my family financially. I would also lose health benefits I need, and I would lose out on a pension I need. Plus I would have to be an idiot to quit a good job with good benefits and start over somewhere else at a fraction of the wage.
